An excellent hotel in a charming village set in glorious countryside. Well placed for Castle Howard which I was visiting. Comfortable and quiet bedroom, good food and pleasant ambience. Nothing.

The staff were extremely helpful and willing to accommodate any requests made of them. The hotel boasts an excellent and extensive wine selection and the food is also very good. We were placed in a room in one of their cottages which whilst fairly basic was warm and comfortable.

The service and meals were poor the room was in need of a deep clean although the linen and bed were clean and comfy .We had to wait about an hour for breakfast although when it came it was good Bad organisation and lack of efficient staff .owners friendly but not prepared for a full complement of visitors

We paid for a superior room individually designed with views over the village. The room was clean, very basic, did have a good sized bathroom but the view was of the back yard ,car park and workshops. It was only a standard quality room. We ate in the village pub as the hotel only did an a le carte menu which was served in the resturant and the same menu in the bar Breakfast menu was fair but certain items carried an extra charge.which I would not expect in a quality hotel. Not really a bad hotel but we have stayed in a lot better hotel for the prices they are charging.

The lady working on reception was excellent. We arrived shortly before a wedding and room service was very prompt and very good, we were helped with arrangements for taxis. Breakfast was quite good but the waitresses were very unfriendly and my egg was undercooked (I specifically asked for it to be hard boiled as I am pregnant but I got a soft egg which I could not eat.)

The room was very quiet, spacious and comfortable and the location perfect for walking. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The dining room was empty except the evening we ate there. The decor in our bedroom the room was tired looking: stains on the carpets, and loose fittings in the bathroom. Could do with some updating.

Our cooked breakfast was fine, but not as hot as it might have been (neither as the plate). Disappointed that there was no porridge. Could've done with more toast (one slice each ain't enough).. While we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay, we felt that £76 a night EACH was very expensive and hard to justify. We elected to stay here because it was the only place in the village, and we needed to be on the spot for a village hall event. Otherwise I would never stay at Hovingham, not at that price. Last weekend we had two nights for two at a resort hotel oon teh outskirts of London for.. £78. Some difference.

Location was great - lovely quiet village and evening meal was delicious. The bedroom carpet had seen better days and the towel rail had not been cleaned recently.

The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. The teddy bear was lovely but wouldn't have fitted in my suitcase for the flight home! I thought the general state of the room and the showerroom were what I would call - a bit tired.
