Brockenhurst
This historic Georgian building is on a quiet street in Edinburgh’s New Town, less than half a mile from Haymarket Train Station. It has large rooms with private bathrooms and a traditional Scottish-style bar. This Thistle Hotel is in Edinburgh's West End, only half a mile from the shops of Princes Street. Edinburgh Castle and the Edinburgh International Conference Center (EICC) are less than a mile away. This family-run hotel mixes original Georgian features with modern comforts. The spacious individually decorated rooms with private bathrooms have digital TVs and some have views of Edinburgh Castle. Just a 10 minute walk from the hotel is the Dean Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art. Both galleries are on extensive grounds. The Manor Lounge bar is decorated in a traditional Scottish style and stocks a range of whiskeys. Hotel Rooms: 11

I Like the location and the fact it was walking distance to the City centre and we didn't have to use the car during the stay. Staff were helpful and friendly without being in your face all the time. I would definately return for another stay in the future

The room was basic and slightly dated. The bed was positioned awkwardly towards the window, which made it difficult to get around. However, the room was very clean and the bed was comfy. The location was quiet. Breakfast was continental, with cooked breakfast at a hefty supplement. The hotel was consistently busy during our stay. It is well situated for the city centre and bars and restaurants. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The rooms are badly in need of an update. I do not feel the published photos are a true reflection of the standard of accommodation Tired furnishings in the bedrooms

The staff were unbelievably friendly, great views from the bedrooms, comfy bed. Tiny bathroom, lots of stairs (and no lift) would definitely cause some trouble for the elderly. No mini-bar in bedroom!

My friend and I were so pleased with our stay at this hotel...We had booked two twin beds, and they upgraded us to two queens. Our room was quite large, and so pretty...I Would stay here again if I return to Edinburgh...A Good location, in which we could walk to everything.

The staff and owner of hotel were so helpful, friendly and welcolming. Nothing is too much trouble.Very personal and relaxed. Lovely Georgian fronted house and easy to walk to train station and into the main part of city. Ten mins to each. Beautiful staircase in hotel and cosy breakfast room and continental breakfast included in room rate, very adequate and great coffee and homemade muffins. We were on third floor and there was no lift so you may need to check this out if you cannot manage stairs. The bathroom on our floor was very clean and fine but not modern. This is something that is next to be changed as the owner continually wants to update the hotel.

A good value hotel, well located near to the tourist attractions and shopping areas of Edinburgh. The hotel is in an attractive Georgian building and although it only provides breakfasts, these were quite adequate and there are plenty of restaurants within a few minutes walk. Rarely for a central Edinburgh hotel, there are a few parking spaces available but these need to be reserved in advance, and manoeuvering into them is not for the faint-hearted!! No lift and a lot of steps up to the upper floors, although the staff were very helpful.

Rooms very comfortable with everything that you could need. Reception staff charming and very helpful. We were a little disappointed with the breakfast, having read previous reviews, we were expecting more. Fresher croissants, bread and muffins would have been much appreciated. Didn't like the very limited choice of very basic cheap jams. For the price of the hotel we had expected a finer choice of better quality ingredients and maybe something Scottish!

All that was claimed in the description was there and available. The reception staff were good fun as well as being helpful, courteous and efficient. The car parking was a big asset. We much enjoyed our stay and would return if we had the good fortune to be in Edinburgh again.

Very friendly and accommodating. Good size room which was clean and quiet. Just to nit pick! We thought it was a shame that the fruit juice at breakfast wasn't fresh! (Was it made from a powder?)

This break was booked for Kevin and Susan Wilson by their son Craig. It was Susan's birthday and also Susan and Kevin's wedding anniversary. We had a lovely stay at the Thistle Hotel. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Really pleasant and helpful. Our room was lovely and clean and pleasant. The bar/lounge was very nice too. We are hoping to go back next year. Bit pricey but we did pick the busiest two weeks of the year as Edinburgh Festival was on. All the same a very enjoyable stay and would highly recommend. We do not have any complaints at all.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and personal. We were happy to see that our room had three proper beds, and we all could sleep comfortalbly. In this hotel there are no sofa beds - thank god. The breakfast was ok. We had signed up for continental but it was possible to order scottish breakfast as well.

We very much liked the Georgian architecture and the typical British atmosphere. Colleague at work recommended this hotel where she had a lovely stay 4 or 5 years ago. It looked pretty much ok at first sight but the tidiness of the room was very poor. We discovered 4 dark long hairs in the bed already the first night and the sheets did not look or feel any attracting. The next day, the sheets where not even stretched when we opened the bed and two new long dark hairs were added. The dust had not been taken away on the furniture and the frames since at least 1 week so I did it myself with toilet paper. I will not describe you the details of the fauna and flora I saw under the bed in the wall-to-wall carpet. Really disgusting: I wonder if they have already invented the vacuum- cleaner in Scotland. The electrical bathroom radiator did not give a very safe feeling; it was repaired with a dirty isolation tape that was completely burnt. I kept a picture if you want to see it ... The shower was clean and has a soap dispenser. The towels were small but clean. No toilet brush and a very noisy ventilator that has not been cleaned either since at a least a decade. We had to pay 5£ for wifi and it only worked before 6 am and randomly for not more than 5min during the day. Our complaint was not taken seriously; the reception guy tried to convince me that it was due to my Apple devices although that my partner was using a Samsung smartphone ... Since we urgently needed our boarding passes we decided to use the pc at to the reception. Five minutes surfing and 2 prints: another pound was charged. I asked the manager if he could probably drop the charge for the wifi since it hardly worked but that was impossible. The so said continental breakfast was also very basic: not a slice of cheese or ham; only factory made marmalades, disgusting rolls and too crunchy toast. The fresh fruit salad however was very tasteful. They charge another 7 £ for English breakfast which nobody ordered. Only boiling American coffee, no espresso available.
