Lovely room very helpful staff and will come back again
Good location and friendly staff.
Breakfast - apparently you have to put your order in for a cooked breakfast the day before you want it.. That would be fine, if you were actually told this on check in!! No restaurant or appropriate dining facilities. Hotel is dated.
The room was too cold.
The location of the hotel which is very convenient to all the main attractions such as the castle and Princess Street. The fact that the manager moved us to another room in an effort to improve our stay.
Room 28 first night - heating not efficient and or working, toilet wouldn't flush, VERY cold. Dark and dingy. After complaining we were moved the next day by the manager to a newly renovated room (24). The smell of decorating materials outweighed the problems in room 28. Room still not warm enough though. Very old heating system and tatty décor throughout. The hotel needs total refurbishment together with installation of a lift servicing the four storeys. Breakfast area cold and blue tack was stuck into holes around window frames. Will not stay again.
The staff were so friendly and helpful they couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable
Room clean with tea making facilities, nice big TV Breakfast good value Did offer to carry bags upstairs
Bed/pillows very uncomfortable, bedding not warm enough for winter weather. Trickle of tap water on hand basin No free Wifi unless you are a BT user Not aware ID needed, so they took copy of my bank card, which was odd! Lighting not great No lift
Particularly liked the friendly and really helpful staff. We didn't know what to expect as we normally stay on the Royal Mile, but have to say would definitely return to the Thistle Hotel. Breakfast brilliant! The whole experience was great.
Actually on reflection can't say we had any dislikes.
Very good continental breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful.
We were on the third floor and being an old building fire escape was via the main staircase only. Some bathrooms had very noisy extractor fans which disturbed my sleep on the first night. Shower very old fashioned.
Breakfast area and service was relaxed but efficient. Staff in lobby were on hand and attentive .
being upgrade to a suite was very nice & the staff just couldn't do enough for us. Well done!
The fact that our suite had no Net curtains, you had to keep the curtains closed until u were dressed, as the whole building on the opposite side of the street could look right in!
The television in our room did not work properly, when it did work it was stuck on one channel, then after switching it off the screen stayed glowing white all night lighting up the room and would not darken, I was told it was fixed on the second night,,,, it was not! I was kept awake by a flag pole banging away all the time outside on the opposite building, it sounded like loud, continuous thunder, we were charged £10.00 for using the wi-fi even though we could not watch the tv, no apology from the manager (Neil), in fact he looked at us as if we had a cheek to mention it! he took a call right in the middle of a conversation with me without even excusing himself for a moment, breakfast was poor and prices extortionate for the service and conditions. only one member of staff was friendly and tried to help on the first day but was unsuccessful. not even any real toiletries provided, had to keep asking for milk for my own teabags, no plug socket in our room that would accommodate either of my chargers for camera or mobile phone as fitted too close to the surfaces.
The great staff, beautiful people
The room was cold
Bedroom was alright.
Staff member who greeted us was very cold and rude. Website said breakfast served until 10.00 am on Sunday but staff said 09.00 am. This was too early for us so we skipped it. Private car park was away from hotel up a lane - NOT PRIVATE. Very steep parking spot. Felt car was unsafe. Cost for this was £30.00. Wifi did not work so we did not pay the £10.00 charge. Website said bar open until 12.30 am on Saturday night but staff said 11.00 pm. No atmosphere in hotel. Very expensive as Fringe Festival was on. Paid over €700.00 for 2 nights for 4 people sharing a room which was too much for very basic facilities.
It is relatively close to the city main touristic attractions - 15 to 20 minutes walking.
As it is an old building it is very noisy. You can listen people walking on the upper floor or even talking in other rooms. When you turn the light in the bathroom, the noise is also terrible. The breakfast is very limited.
Noisy room under kitchen woken very early by staff in kitchen and talking. I was in room 3. Left 1 night early due to lack of sleep.
Very friendly and helpfull staff.
Water pressure very low.
Not so clean and 10£ for wifi that didn't work consistently? In fairness when I complained they removed the fee.
Proximity to city centre; helpful and friendly staff
Lack of lift; tiredness of decorations and fittings
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Would like to see each and everyone of them get jobs at a nicer place.
We were there during festival, which drove price up. Beds are uncomfortable, no lifts to old, dumpy rooms. Breakfast is poor quality. Cost in USD was $400/night for double room.
location was where we wanted to be
1. no lift 2.no restraunt
Breakfast (included) was not that good, found much better cheap options in nearby cafes
The friendliness/helpfulness of the staff, the proximity to the centre of Edinburgh.
The four/five flights of stairs to our bedroom
One member of staff charged me twice for my hotel stay - i paid once online and he took another payment from me by card for my room even though he could have seen from the documentation that I had already paid.. Breakfast was poor
Staff were very good, we were booking last minute for an anniversary, their was a card in the room and a bottle of wine , i very nice touch. The hotel is in a lovely part of Edinburgh with Beautiful buildings all round + 10 Min stroll to Centre
friendly helpful staff lovely hotel
no lift staying on 4th floor
