Although we knew we had missed breakfast, the staff made us fresh tea + toast and directed us to the continental buffet, they could not have been more attentive and friendly,we have family in the area who we visit often, we would definately book here again.

All facilites well kept and staff helpful. Food very good but expensive by our usual standards. Staff very sympathetic when we received bad news during our stay. We are holding our daughter's wedding here in June and I am reassured that it will be delightful, well run and personal.

Beautiful building in a nice area - good rooms with all necessary facilities (iron in every room, free wifi). Good value for money. Staff was ok, but no more than that.

Being able to have breakfast in bed for no extra cost Cost of drinks at the bar. My husband would have liked more black pudding and a bit more fried/ bread than quarter of a slice of bread

Beautiful garden view from the restaurant. Good cuisine. Lounge and bar are very historical and traditional as well as relaxing. The room was very quite and comfortable. Would like to visit again definitely! Breakfast que for half an hour was not nice. However it was an extraordinary evetnt due to the wedding party from the previous evening.

Fantastic value for money. Staff very welcoming and friendly. We let them no it was our anniversary and the were fantastic, even recieved a card and a free drink each. Food was good too. Our room was great, very comfortable and a good size. The only problem was check out when they couldnt use the pre authorised card amount,so in effect we ended up paying twice,as im still waiting for money back into bank. My recommendation pay with cash! Unless you dont mind having funds frozen for half a week!

Despite being woken several times during the night by people arguing in the corridor I did manage to get some sleep. The staff did their job, but offered little beyond the absolute minimum

Good location, nice atmosphire, frindly staff and good food, all at a reasonable price. Glad we decided not to go for fine dining as the room was dark and oppressive.

Room and bathroom were good. Service was poor (requests not actioned) tables not cleared from afternoon tea meant there was nowhere to sit for a pre dinner drink. Service was slow and waiters not pleasant in restaurant, food overpriced and only average quality. Told that there were too many quests for the available tables for breakfast so we would have a wait in the morning if we went at our requested time. Breakfast service was abysmal.

Excellent food at the Gallery Restaurant - attentive waiting staff, but not intrusive. Would stay again. Room service for breakfast was attrocious. Ordered breakfast to be delivered between 9-9.15, however it didn't arrive until past 10am & the only reason it did arrive was after my husband phoned down to reception numerous times enquiring as to where it was. During this time he had the phone put down on him! The hotels response to where our breakfast was, was that they were incredibly busy due to a wedding party from the night before! Not our problem I'm afraid. Maybe more staff would have been the answer if it was known that a large functiom was taking place that weekend.

We were guests for a Wedding Reception - a lovely venue! When arriving down at approx. 09h30 for Sunday breakfast, the Dining Room was extremely busy - we had to queue for 20+ minutes, despite 6-7 tables being empty**. ** This wait was because the staff seemed very stretched - it was non-clearance of tables that seemed to be causing the bulk of the main delay. From ordering our breakfasts its arrival was slower than ideal too. Perhaps this was contributing to the delay.... The breakfast itself was very good though!

Nice hotel in a lovely location. Very attentive staff. Lots of choice for breakfast, both continental and full english. We stayed at the hotel for a 40th wedding anniversary celebration held at the hotel and all the guests seemed to enjoy the day. Quite a few guests stayed overnight and the staff kindly arranged for us to have a room so we could all have a buffet breakfast together. Did not like the fact that our room faced the large marquee in the gardens of the hotel which was used for a wedding on both nights we stayed and we were kept awake until 12 midnight by loud music. The bar prices are quite expensive.

The location. Only 5mns away from Basingstoke, yet in the middle of nowhere. Although we had a lovely weekend, we were disappointed by the Executive Room which we thought was bland, dull and maybe a bit dated. Not enough staff to cope at breakfast (had to wait 50mns to be served) and had to wait 15mns the following morning after having asked to be served breakfast in the room - got a couple of things wrong with our order. These are not major things to be fair but I would say the staff didn't look very happy and this is certainly reflected in the service they give back

Location, food was of a very good standard. Bar service was good. The hotel has history dating from 1880. Not being able to get a table for dinner. Cost of wine by the glass. 14.5 pound for a glass of sa shiraz. Don't drink at the bar unless beer

We stayed in another hotel in the group and were very impressed, so decided to try another Handpicked hotel. We were staying for our anniversary and were made to feel very special. The room was pleasant, comfortable and the facilities showed a great attention to detail. Quality of food and attentiveness of restaurant staff was first class. Reception service was terrible. Check in took 15 minutes and the reception manager (not present at first and was clearly on a cigarette break as the smell was unpleasant - not what I'd expect from a 4* hotel) and took 3 interruptions - 2 by phone and one from another guest who rudely interrupted our check-in. Check out, handled by the same person took almost twenty minutes, and I felt sorry for the two foreign guests waiting in front of me who were clearly tired and did not understand what she was saying.

“Good breakfast provided early by the night porter, with generous portions and a smile at the crack of dawn. Very late checkin was also not a problem.” Alexander, Bristol |
