Lovely hotel but the drinks and food were ridiculously expensive. Room was very clean and comfortable though only spent one night here attending a wedding function. Did not use any of the leisure facilities. A lift to some of the room would have been useful as lugging a case up stairs is not always possible.

The Thistle is a fine hotel in this part of the country The food was very overpriced for what it was - you expect top notch for these prices but its not even as good as a Premier Inn connected pub and poorer value, so no way was I going to pay similar for breakfast. Room Service cost (Tray Charge) of £5 is ridiculous too. Think this hotel attracts people with good basic rates for staying and hope they will indulge in evening meal & breakfast because of limitations nearby, but you end up begrudging the quality and overall value for money. Hotel needs a reality check.

Liked the idea of the shuttle bus to the race course. Staff very friendly. The "pea and ham soup" was really a blended up bowl of bachelors brightly coloured tin of peas, with five shreds of ham on the top? Asked for no butter on the sandwich, however did have butter on.Possibly slight lack of communications.

Great restaurant though and friendly staff. Could feel the springs in the mattress and flat pillows. Otherwise nice hotel. But not so good if you can't sleep with wire cutting into you.

The staff were very friendly. The room was way past its sell by date. Wallpaper was coming off the walls, the towels in the bathroom were clean but grey not white as the started out being. The grouting in the bathroom round the bath/shower are was black. Where the trouser press was situated had never been dusted or thoroughly clean in months it was filthy. I do question whether or not, because I got the room through Booking.Com, they allocate sub standard rooms although, I have never experenced this when booking through you before. I will not be staying there again!!!!

I would have liked to have known in advance of 5.00pm that the ding room was full for that evening and we had to make alternative dining arrangements.

Convenient location Parts of the hotel, especially the room are looking a little "tired". The bathroom especially needs refurbishing. At the discounted price it was just about acceptable but I would not have been happy to pay the full listed price.

Room price The gym is far too small and it has really old equipment! The rooms are not very pleasant either; bathroom was below the standards one would expect from a hotel like Thistle Haydock. Most of the staff members were polite and very helpful but the one that actually greeted us at the arrival and the first impression, that I believe is a very important one wasn't great.
