Location and History of Chequers Pub. Pricing was good for a Hotel and Parking Package We stayed at Hotel on nights of 12/9&27/9. First night, room was basic and twin rather than double. The pub was not inviting, tables sticky and limited menu and no draft ale. Staff limited in numbers and overstretched. On 27/9 we arrived late (3am) due to flight. Executive Room was Great. Unfortunately housekeeping let them down. Cooked Breakfast was good, but staff inadequacies led to lack of visible service and no table clearance. Made problems known to receptionist, who made notes, but said only "Oh!!" All in all, not what we expected from a 4* hotel with relatively good reports. I will complain to Menzies, but this is just a factual report

Restaurant - long wait for indifferent food. Staff not communicating with guests. Noisy staff in car park moving cars to secure parking after midnight.

My non smoking room was very smokey, the restaurant was like a schene from Faulty Towers, house cleaning knocking doors at 7am. All in all a very messy experience.

Cleanliness of room and overhaul decor especially bed linen was of a very high standard. The evening meals could be improved upon as meal took some time to arrive and the quality was acceptable but no more. On the second overnight stay on return from holiday the Night Reception asked me for my Barclaycard details even though I had booked and paid for on-line. I thought this was strange and he said don't worry now, we will sort it out in the morning. When I booked out in the morning the day staff didn't ask for any details? However We will Definately stay at the Menzies for our next overnight stay before departing/arriving Gatwick.

Location, quality and helpful staff. More staff needed to keep up with demand at breakfast, although the one person there was fantastic - just too much for one person to fcope with.

nice clean room, very pleasant girl on reception i had a downstairs room with the window onto the covered entrance to the hotel at the back near the car park. I dont smoke but customers were smoking there and it was drifting into my room. They need a smoke shelter out the front of the hotel. There was also a very strong smell of other smoke in the hotel which i reported to the chap on reception who did not seem one bit interested. I had to wait 30 mins for the breakfast buffet to be topped up with hot food and that was at 9am.

Ideally situated for the airport Restaurant had a very limited menu quite expensive The wine menu was good only they didn't have any of the wines advertised on it.

The girl on reception (dark hair and glasses-sorry didn't catch her name!) was amazing-so helpful in every way, went out of her way for me. Really appreciated her help-she was so polite and friendly. :) I'm airline staff so I stay in a lot of hotels, and this one was lovely- really liked it. The only thing I was disappointed at was the size of the room-it was tiny for having paid for a superior double room. Absolutely tiny. My other half is a first officer and they stay at Menzies, and he was surprised at how small my room was, he said their rooms are always a decent big size. So it disappointed me that I'd paid for a superior double and it was so small. That's all that disappointed me really. The room itself was lovely, just very small.

The prompt efficient service of the receptionist who gave the impression she was actually glad to welcome us and nothing was too much trouble.Sadly you do not get this from many establishments. We were most impressed and whenever we have to fly from Gatwick in the future you can rest assured this Hotel will be our number 1 choice. Thank you staff - keep it up you are a credit to the industry. If there was one 'minor' complaint I would only say that the bedroom was a trifle too warm but many other of course would not necessarily agree

I will not be using your services again. When I got there they told me you had cancelled the booking. Luckily they did have rooms available and reinstated the booking. Would be very grateful if you could let me know how this could have happened Michael Terry Staff were more than helpful, having picked up my wife from the airport at Midnight we only got down to breakfast at 9.35. They stopped serving at 9.30 but were still happy to open everything up and get us what we wanted which was a full English breakfast.

Good quality at an excellent price. The special deal of 2 nights, 4 breakfasts and two evening meals was a real bargain. Everyting inside the hotel is very good, staff, building, meals etc. However, the outside of the bedroom blocks look tired and dated, a bit 1960's council flats, which doesn't do justrice to the inside. Imaginative and subtle use of blending colours would do much to improve the outside.

We found the Hotel very good for our needs. Room was clean and tidy, with a great shower (in fact best encountered in a month in the UK!) Staff were efficient and very helpful and there were a good range of facilties.

Nice clean hotel, Excellent breakfast, nice clean modern small room, nice wet room. Thought we'd treat ourselves while visiting relatives as its xmas and get a Superior Double room with seating area- Turned out to be a small room made smaller by putting a table and chair in , Management response- "The chair and round table which are in the room are classed as the seating area."Also the wet room door opened onto the wardrobe door which caused a few problems Ideal room for single person Dread to think how big a double room was, also adjoining pub was cold and gloomy but once orientated the Horley only a short walk with nice pubs

We use the hotel for overnight stays between flights. Booking is easy and check in and out always very quick and efficient. Taxi service is prompt. We have stayed several times in lovely rooms but were rather disappointed with room 224 on this occasion. We arrived late in the evening and were too tired to change rooms but this room does need a makeover. Suggest you definitely change the mattress and it's lost its spring! These are just suggestions and we would continue to use Menzies Chequers.

Place lacks any social atmosphere. At 9.30 pm on Christmas Eve there was one customer in the public bar. It should have been packed on Xmas Eve.What have you done to frighten away all the local customers? Perhaps it's because you only sell expensive,imported beers, and not beers brewed within just a few miles of Horley

The airport service is just the best! The taxi collects and returns for just £6.00 each way and it makes the whole experience easy. Excellent value for money and the food is good in the restaurant.

Good location and very modern and well furnished room which was also extremely comfortable. The staff we dealt with were quietly efficient which helped make our stay totally relaxing. The breakfast was adequate and catered for most tastes. The car park could do with resurfacing or at least some re-grading and drainage improvements; it had been raining so there were puddles everywhere and it was difficult to avoid getting your feet wet.
