Across from Newcastle’s Central Train and Bus Station, this beautifully preserved 19th-century building is now a modern hotel. It offers a restaurant, with lively nightlife just 300 ft away. The County Hotel by Thistle, Newcastle is just half a mile from the restaurants and theaters in the vibrant Quayside area. St James' Park, home of Newcastle United FC (soccer club), is a 10-minute walk away. With a flat-screen satellite TV, an in-room safe and free tea and coffee, the rooms also have 24-hour room service. Private bathrooms each feature a hairdryer and there are ironing facilities. Rendez Vous Restaurant provides a range of British and international cuisine prepared with locally sourced ingredients. The relaxed lounge bar shows sports on large LCD TVs. We have stayed approx 4-5 times now as we find the staff friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The rooms are clean, well equipt, comfortable and secure. I feel safe when staying here. We find the deals available are also very good value for money also. We were originally given s much smaller room to the side of the hotel when I had requested a view of the station. The staff were great and happily moved us upon request. Les the porter who was covering from another hotel that night was brilliant .

The location was great Booked a standard double room, Got there and got put in a very small double room. The room would be fine for 1 person but to small for 2 . Only a 3/4 bed and also very warm rom.

Central location and friendly, helpful staff. You could hear every door in the corridor slamming shut. You could also hear people talking outside your room. I have no idea if the neighbouring rooms heard me when I had the tv on, but I was concerned about it,

good location, friendly staff, nice comfy rooms. Only fault I can pick was that there was no parking space at the hotel the first night I stayed and had to pay £10 for the parking the second night

This is a great hotel - I had never been to Newcastle before and the staff made me feel very welcome. The location is excellent, as are the rooms . It was also very cheap - I thought so anyway. Bloody good value!

Good location right opposite the railway station. Friendly staff - nice atmosphere. Slight problem with heating in the room. Promptly addressed. Would definitely come again.

Very good location, directly opposite Central Station and good access to bars, shops and restaurants. This hotel was a late booking and we got a highly reduced rate. However, the booking was for a standard double but on check in we were given a small double. This room was tiny, the bed wasn't even a double bed and the room was not big enough for 2 people.

The receptionist was very welcoming when we arrived. Great location for the station and o2 Academy, and not too far from the shopping centre. Poor parking facilities - clearer directions needed on booking confirmation. We parked at the station which only cost £8. Threadbare carpet. Shower didn't hang straight so had to be held up. Double bed was small. Room was boiling so had to request an electric fan at 3am! It arrived straightaway.

Location excellent - rooms at the front a little noisy due to hundreds of party goers waiting for taxis, but when I closed the secondary glazing it went quiet cleanliness excellent and reception / room service staff very polite and professional I thought £130 for a basic room was a little steep but it was my choice to stay !!
