The staff were very polite and helpful and the facilities met our requirements. I booked the hotel as it was near the location we needed to be the next day and the price was fair. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the stay and would come back again.

The rooms were well designed and comfortable and the heating unit was good. Nice gardens and room at the back of hotel to take my dog out for walks. The price of the breakfast also thought the dinner menu rather expensive, We got our breakfast out as £30 to pay out was too much.

The hotel has a great location just outside St Albans centre, and a feeling of space. I enjoyed the leisure club especially with the pool. The room was well-equipped and comfortable, breakfast had a very good choice if slightly overpriced, and the staff were very helpful. Overall the hotel has a relaxed feel, and there is also some character especially with the old beams etc. Would recommend for a relaxing break.

Staff were extremely helpful and efficient Hotel very tired and in desperate need of a refurb. Carpets badly stained, wallpaper hanging off, mattress was on a home-made wooden base where the previous base had obviously collapsed! Bedding etc was clean, but the overall impression was grubby and tired.

I think they need more staff, I have worked at 4* and 5* hotels and they do not have enough staff to deal with reception at all. The phone rings and no one is there to answer it as they are busy showing people round. Also we rang for room service three times and no one answered.

nice convenient (to London) comfortable clean hotel. Exactly what I would expect as far as a standard hotel room goes - nothing to complain about I thought the Hotel was ridiculously expensive for food and drink - £14.95 per person for breakfast... I think not ! £13 for a glass of wine and a pint! Bar drinks were very very expensive and the food menu looked expensive to me too - I noticed not many people ate or drank there and that gave it a bit of a sad atmosphere. Shame really, I'm sure if they charged "reasonable" prices they could actually get someone other than those on expense accounts to use the facilities and make money so many hotels fail to learn that lesson and end up closing down or going downhill because the staff become complacent and lazy because there is too little to do and then they become too expensive to employ!... rant over !

All facilities at the Hotel were excellent, especially Spa. Good location and easy to find. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very attractive hotel. We were upgraded to an executive room at no extra cost which was a lovely bonus. Our only complaint was the bed was a drop down type and the pillows kept disappearing between the matress and the headboard. The matress itself was very hard and uncomfortable. Having said that would stay here again but will check the matress first!

I found the hotel to be clean and the staff were helpful and very friendly. The hotel was situated on a very busy roundabout so it isnt the quietest of places to stay, but I wasn't disturbed by the traffic noise at any point, so I guess it isn't that much of a problem. I'd definately would stay there again

Easy access; good location; lovely room; very comfortable bed. Leisure area very good. Excellent staff in all areas. Let down by restaurant. Not a very attractive room. Cheap cutlery. Poor menu. Thought food not good value for money. Also, I am a Radio 4 girl and of all the tv channels & radio stations offered (many, many) Radio 4 included, Radio 4 was the only one not available. So I missed "Mark Steele visits....."

it looks good, beds are comfortable. poor management, lack of security. Fire alarm went on during the night and it seems to be common, staff does not bother about that. The hair drier had a short circuit and couldn't be disconnected from the plug. Considering that our window was just across a gas station it is the worst choice ever, I couldn' t sleep the rest of the night and was more than happy holliday was over.

Good price, good location, good meals, good staff- very helpful, nice- clean rooms, We were on a two week excursion and had a lot of luggage. Our last two days were in St. Albans. There are no lifts, the stairs are narrow, hard to get luggage a long way to our room, 231. It is a no smoking facility but there were people hanging out of the windows smoking, we had our windows open and their smoke came in our room. We shut our windows. For some reason the mini split ac had no power to it or did not work, so it was a little warm. Things we can put up with, but others may not. Also, internet costs and did not say so on the website, best I remember. We stayed at some in Folkestone that had free internet included.

The hotel is quite tired and the noise levels disappointing especially from a saturday night wedding. Breakfast day one was cold resulting in the restuarant manager taking all of the fod away and replacing it. Second day was much better and of the right standard. The gym and leisure facilities are very good and made up for the size and quality of the rooms. Generally the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant Breakfast cold as mentioned above and rooms very tired and in need of renovation. On balance the cost was high for standard of hotel

After reading other reviews for this hotel we did take some of the comments on board i.e. phoned hotel before stay to make sure we had a refurbished room overlooking the garden. We really enjoyed our stay the staff were very accommodating especially Christine and Tom in the restaurant. Just one blip was that the heater in the swimming pool was not working properly so the Jacuzzi and the pool was the same temperature (warmish) but they are to have an extensive refurbish programme soon.
