Easy access; good location; lovely room; very comfortable bed. Leisure area very good. Excellent staff in all areas. Let down by restaurant. Not a very attractive room. Cheap cutlery. Poor menu. Thought food not good value for money. Also, I am a Radio 4 girl and of all the tv channels & radio stations offered (many, many) Radio 4 included, Radio 4 was the only one not available. So I missed "Mark Steele visits....."

it looks good, beds are comfortable. poor management, lack of security. Fire alarm went on during the night and it seems to be common, staff does not bother about that. The hair drier had a short circuit and couldn't be disconnected from the plug. Considering that our window was just across a gas station it is the worst choice ever, I couldn' t sleep the rest of the night and was more than happy holliday was over.

Its location and staff make you feel very welcome. The walk ways to the rooms where very cold and the room I stayed in (115) the ceiling in bathroom and the wall tiles where in a bad state of repair. But not a problem for me just to let you know

our room at the thistle St Albans was ok. we were part of a large family group that were staying for a couple of nights for a family wedding. Several members of our party were far from happy with the cleanliness and size of room, especially family rooms. In some rooms the showers weren't working and neither was the TV. My daughter and her family had to come to my room to get showered! A complaint at check out did not result in a reduction of the room price. It should have done. The central booking line is also not a satisfactory system when with a large party you need to speak to the hotel itself. I found the girl at central booking rude and unhelpful. There was an a distinct lack of care in the presentation of the rooms. Too many business people were using the lounge for business meetings making it impossible to have a quiet chat with family members. Along with the above I shall not recommend The Noke at Thistle St Albans to anyone visiting the area.

Convenient to get to. The room was tired and so dimly lit. I am not sure why hotels think people staying do not want to see what they are doing. No air con or ventilation and being on the ground floor the window could not be open fully for safety reasons. The bed was short and uncomforatble.

Reception staff were excellent Bit tired, bedrooms could do with a bit of redecoration and our sheets didn't seem very clean (stains). Breakfast was too overpriced so we chose to eat out.

Good price, good location, good meals, good staff- very helpful, nice- clean rooms, We were on a two week excursion and had a lot of luggage. Our last two days were in St. Albans. There are no lifts, the stairs are narrow, hard to get luggage a long way to our room, 231. It is a no smoking facility but there were people hanging out of the windows smoking, we had our windows open and their smoke came in our room. We shut our windows. For some reason the mini split ac had no power to it or did not work, so it was a little warm. Things we can put up with, but others may not. Also, internet costs and did not say so on the website, best I remember. We stayed at some in Folkestone that had free internet included.

The hotel is quite tired and the noise levels disappointing especially from a saturday night wedding. Breakfast day one was cold resulting in the restuarant manager taking all of the fod away and replacing it. Second day was much better and of the right standard. The gym and leisure facilities are very good and made up for the size and quality of the rooms. Generally the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant Breakfast cold as mentioned above and rooms very tired and in need of renovation. On balance the cost was high for standard of hotel

After reading other reviews for this hotel we did take some of the comments on board i.e. phoned hotel before stay to make sure we had a refurbished room overlooking the garden. We really enjoyed our stay the staff were very accommodating especially Christine and Tom in the restaurant. Just one blip was that the heater in the swimming pool was not working properly so the Jacuzzi and the pool was the same temperature (warmish) but they are to have an extensive refurbish programme soon.

We were up-graded to a better room, without asking, as the the hotel was fairly empty. Hard to find as Postcode on SatNav took us into a Cul de Sac. Suggest a separate "Thistle" sign be put up so that it can be clearly seen from the Roundabout. Suggest an Extractor fan be put in the bathroom.

The bedrooms and facilities were good - better than expected and the fitness suite and swimming pool also very good. Swimming pool was main reason for booking - plus location! Cost of room was reasonable. Food and breakfast were also good. The cost of the drinks in the bar were very expensive - much more so than the food! Also our nights sleep was rather disturbed by a faulty fire alarm which went off twice very loudly in the middle of the night. The staff seemed rather dismissive of this and not terribly apologetic.
