The Royal Trafalgar - A Thistle HotelWhitcomb Street, Trafalgar Square, WC2H 7HG London (Show map) Very good, Score from 127 reviews“The facilities are recently refreshed and contemporary. The room, while not overly large, was well appointed and well beyond what I expected for the price. The best part of the hotel were the staff. Quiet room with everything you need, good shower, air-conditioning, good use of space in small room. Expensive, but not too bad considering the location and state of other hotels in the area

Upgraded to a larger room. Room was clean and well appointed with a huge comfy bed. Three minutes from theatre. Excellent restaurants and shops close by Did not have breakfast - thought it was too expensive as I only eat fruit and toast. Curtains in room were a little torn and tatty.

Very friendly staff. Newly refurbished and decor and room clean, bright and first class. Breakfast can be expensive as restaurant appears to be franchised but ask at reception for voucher. Breakfast okay but not fantastic but adequate. Ideal location for shopping, theatres, National Gallery & Trafalgar Square.

It is beautiful hotel and beautiful room I was there to watch a show at the Queens Theatre, it was a brilliant location as it only took five minutes to walk there, and really close to the tube and shops. I am looking to stay there again in June and can not wait.

Great location for Theatre; quiet side street; excellent quality and value for money Unfortunately the service in the restaurant service early evening was too slow and ruined our dining experience (it was very busy but I would at least expect order to be taken and pre-dinner drinks provided in an acceptable timeframe and without having to prompt each time.

Superb location, and the room (6th floor) was newly refurbished. Rather cramped, not unusual in city centre location, but still tolerable. Too much furniture in the room for the space available. TV, shower, coffee etc all worked well. Very comfortable. Breakfast was good standard.

We needed a really early start to queue for the Leonardo tickets at the National Gallery, so you were perfectly positioned for us to get out by 5.30am. We took it in turns to pop back to the hotel to eat breakfast, while the other kept the place in the queue. We were successful - got tickets and thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition. We would definitely use your hotel to do the same again if we needed to.

We had a difficult choice to make between The Thistle at Piccadily and this hotel. We had stayed at the Piccadily during our last visit and wanted to try out The Royal Trafalgar this time. But reading all the reviews about the annoying renovation work gave us doubts. Both hotels shared a great location but the Piccadily hotel had old looking rooms and facilities and was actually pricier than The Royal Trafalgar. But it didnt have renovations to disturb us. After much deliberations we decided to take the risk with the Royal Trafalgar especially since the price offered on booking.com was alot more attractive. It turned out to be a good decision. The check in was handled well by friendly staff, we were upgraded to a newly furbished executive room on the 6th floor. We had read on this site to ask for this floor but were in doubt that we would get it since we booked through booking.com at attractive rates. So the upgrade without having to ask, was a pleasant surprise. The room was newly renovated and spacious compared to the old tiny room we had at Thistle Piccadily. But in both hotels the bed was the star as it was nice and big. The toilet was however narrow, with a strange door design which took out a few minutes to figure out how to close. But the standing shower with rainshower feature was nice and big enough for 2! We were not disturbed by sounds from any renovation works! The only renovation work we saw was when workers were replacing the carpeting at the lift lobby and had to block the floor area partly and close off one lift. But this did not bother us, especially since it was done during working hours. The toilet only had one set of towels and we had to search the room before finding the other set in one of the drawers. There is no fridge or bedroom slippers. Again these are minor minus points. The door to hotel room is thin ie we could hear other guests as they chatted while walking to and from their rooms. And every morning, we can clearly hear the chatter amongst the hotel chambermaids, their supervisor and another other hotel staff outside our room door. But we got used to it after a while and didnt really mind it especially since these were not prolonged idle chatter and we found these staff to be nice and friendly. The staff at reception were friendly but there were exceptions as there were a few who came across as indifferent. So there is a lack of consistency in service standards.

-The location of the hotel was fantastic, very close to the Piccadilly Circus underground station, Piccadilly Theater, and most important Cinnabon! -Our room was great. A large corner room with lots of windows, a large bathroom, a view of the National Gallery and the morning sunrise. And, this was all in a standard room. I look forward to staying again in one of the higher class rooms -Our room was a little tired (slightly peeling wall paper, chips in paint on the windowsill) but not enough to turn us off

There was a problem with the booking but was sorted out quickly. The location is fantastic and near to everything. The bar was very noisey and with the rugby on the tv people not staying at the hotel were catching and getting drunk. Would be better if the tv was removed and the bar accomodated the people staying at the hotel more than outsiders coming in.

Very smart hotel just seconds from Trafalgar Square - situated behind the National Gallery, which was ideal as the reason for staying was to be very early in the queue for the Leonardo exhibition. A very good deal, considering the price of all the other hotels in the area - and I was amazed at how large the room was.

Excellent position but considering it was so central it was so quiet.all the staff were most helpful and friendly. We paid extra for the breakfast and the amount of choice available meant there was something for everybody, it set us up for the day. The room was clean and modern and the bathroom had an excellent shower. My only complaint was the lack of drawers in the room, plenty of hangers in the wardrobe but I was at a loss where to put our socks and underwear. Also was there really a need for 2 chairs in such a small room.
