upgrade was much appreciated room out of this world and staff were very friendly despite being short staffed and rushed off their feet
service was very slow they were short staffed had to wait over 1/5 for a drink to arrive after chasing staff several times sat down for evening meal at 8pm didn't get our starters until 9.05pm again having to chase staff several times to see whaere it was
Very friendly staff and fantastic history very comfortable stay.
We're upgraded to fantastic room. The food in the restaurant was very good.
Seems there had been a lot of new staff and they were unfamiliar with routine. Waited for someone to take our order for a pre dinner drink and waiter went away and didn't return, so had to ask someone else.
Beautiful, historical surroundings. Rooms are furnished and cleaned to a high standard. Staff very friendly and helpful.
The service in the restaurant was a little slow but did not mar the visit.
Room Staff Food Location All amazing
Got upgraded to a fantastic suite. Staff very helpful.
The room and gardens were magnificent but that is where this luxury experience ended.
We were so looking forward to our stay here and walked away disappointed for the amount of money you pay for the experience. Only one of the reception staff I dealt with was friendly and helpful the others were quite aloof and seemed to have an air of entitlement about them. When you arrive there is a sign purporting a valet service and to alight your vehicle, we never saw or had anyone help us with luggage on arrival or departure. There seemed to be several male "executive" staff constantly in a hurry around the place rushing and pushing past you whenever you were in the hallway. The tissue boxes in the room were 'disguised' with only one tissue fluffed up for presentation. Breakfast was disorganised, we were seated my a confused staff member and then just left with no explanation of the breakfast service(which we had received at every other hotel we stayed at)service wasn't a pleasant experience so we opted for room service the next morning only to find that a small young woman having to lug our heavy tray up three flights of stairs, surely one of the 'executive' staff could have managed it. We endured a huge screaming match for over 5-10 minutes on our last night, whether is was staff of guests I don't know but it turns out castle walls aren't as thick as you think. Lastly what is with a staff member vacuuming around the reception area while trying to check out at 9.30am in the morning, just kept vacuuming in front of the reception desk, apart from the noise what about the electrical lead being a trip hazard. If you decide to book be aware that you will have to navigate quite a few narrow steps up to your room.
The castle and rooms were beautiful. There was a great sitting area to relax in and amazing gardens.
Couldn't get the water temperature in the shower to balance out so we had to take baths. Dinner was very expensive and fancy - served very well, but it the food was not good
hotel inside the ruins of the ancient castle with all comfort of 21st century
We loved everything about the castle only paying the extra for the dukes bedchamber we were a little bit disappointed the room is tired
My 10th trip to the U.K. The ugly surprise I received at checkout substantially detracted from what would otherwise have been an enjoyable experience. See attached comment about procedure I consider both unethical and dishonest.
At checkout I was informed that holders of non- U.K. credit cards had to have their previously agreed room rate in gbp converted to their home currency at an unfavorable rate. This was done in spite of my specific request to pay the agreed rate in gbp, a practice I consider very unethical. After I was forced to sign the credit card slip, I was presented with a previously hidden statement saying that I had requested this forced conversion at an unfavorable rate. An absolute lie!
A very nice welcome and a very big room. Everything was very good.
A stunning location with excellent food.
The room was a bit tired and not finished to a high standard. The staff were very slow and rather unresponsive. I was not the only guest who had to go looking for staff at reception, to order food or drinks etc
A very unusual surreal experience; the ambience; the town. A relaxing place to stay.
The History of the castle is amazing
very peaceful location.Food was great.
Some of the furniture is quite dated;too many nooks an crannies to keep properly clean
We LOVED the authentic feel of this castle! We stayed in the Anne Boleyn room, which had a beautiful view of the courtyard and chapel tower, as well as a huge old fireplace! We felt as though we were in a fairy tale. Breakfast the next morning was exceptional, with the continental items including all natural yogurt, museli, and fresh fruit! The young staff were very, very pleasant, cheerful and professional.
although I was surprised there was wifi at all, it did not work during our stay. the staff informed us there had been constant issues, despite each room having it's own router. Also, would love to have a brief history of each room in the room.
Fabulous atmosphere and great views from our room.
Wanted to know more about the history. We looked it up ourselves but it would have been nice to have this on display within the castle. Breakfast was a bit pretentious. I enjoyed the Eggs Benedict but my husband would have liked a good 'full English fry up'.
great location and sense of occasion superb value - mid-week room and meal this time were less than the weekend superior room only when stayed here 24 years ago!
some of the decor was looking a bit tired and tatty food very good but not to the standard of the £50 for three courses pricing that we'd have been charged if we hadn't had the half-board deal.
Shower needs up-grading
The authentic feel, rooms and site have been tastefully and sympathetically restored and yet deliver 21st century comforts like our stunning bathroom and the most powerful shower we've ever experienced. Staff were attentive and friendly and couldn't do enough for us.
Not a criticism but rather a suggestion; we found out about Thornbury while watching a documentary on the Tudors. We are fascinated by this period in history and it would have been nice to have information about the castle's use in those times, who stayed when and in which rooms etc.
Quiet country setting, the food and restaurant were amazing. Staff were professional, attentive and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the stay
It's only a really small thing, but the bed was perhaps too soft for my personal tastes.
The whole experience...from getting the really cool 5 pound, 8 inch long antique room key...to the excellent food and service...to the valet parking. Was a little bit further off our planned tour route of engand but well worth the drive to stay in a castle.
Being an old castle my wife had a hard time in heels as our beautiful suite was up in the tower, and had very narrow, uneven, tight stairs to get up to it ...so escorting by the elbow was impossible. Will know next time to request a lower, more accessible, room if she brings high heels again :)
GOOD SERVICE , GOOD FOOD, GREAT PLACE.
