The hosts cannot do enough to ensure you have everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable break. The rooms are modern and spotlessly clean and Jane is a great cook so the meal in your room is definitely a must! The gardens are peaceful with great views of the countryside. Not far from Hawes if you fancy a wander by car or by foot on the public footpaths and some great walks nearby.
Could not fault anything about our stay at Thorney Mire Barn
Quiet location with nice views. Comfy bed. Great breakfasts. Friendly hosts. Spacious room with private garden patio seating area.
The venue is clean and well kept with premium quality cutlery, crockery and other too many creature comforts. The food was excellent. The hosts were most welcoming.
The proprietors were too willing to please. It was their home we were in. We did not like having to use the top floor without easy means of access for a suitcase.
Simon and Jane are very, very good at what they do. Every aspect of our stay was faultless, from the warm welcome to the luxury and comfort of our room to the extraordinarily good food... and all in a secluded setting in a beautiful part of the world. Our hosts were friendly and attentive without being intrusive; they're extremely knowledgeable - and passionate - about the area, and can tell you pretty much anything you need to know about local attractions and facilities. However, as rewarding as it is to explore the locality, you'll find it difficult to drag yourself away from the house and its impressive surroundings - especially when there's the option of a mind-bogglingly tasty home-cooked evening meal, served in your room. Ours involved a good many local products (some from Simon & Jane's own garden) and it was off-the-scale delicious, as were the different breakfasts we had each morning, with a view out onto the garden and its visiting squirrels. (In fact the breakfast deserves a review of its own, with its home-made muesli, home-baked breads, home-made jams, home-made blueberry muffins, Olympic-sized locally-sourced cooked breakfast and Aga-cooked porridge, to name only a few of the options). The attention to detail at Thorney Mire Barn is amazing, but at the same time it's a homely and welcoming place; there's nothing generic or stuffy about it. I have no idea how the hosts manage to appear so relaxed and engaging whilst putting on such a seriously top-notch service. 10 out of 10; we'll definitely be back.
Excellent facilities and staff extremely friendly. It couldn't have been better.
There was nothing we didn't like.
Everything! Very spacious and comfortable rooms with large comfy beds. Constant hot water in the ensuing bathrooms. Very good facilities for people with disabilities or mobility issues. Thought has been given to every reasonable need with the provision of lots of little extra touches. Wonderful breakfasts every day and evening meals on request. All produce home grown, home made and home cooked to a very high standard. Excellent. Above all, the welcome was warm and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for Jane and Simon. They were excellent with my elderly parents and were always on hand to offer advice on suitable places to go, the daily weather forecast or a funny story. Would happily recommend and revisit in the future. A luxury B & B with owners who go the extra mile. Well done and thank you.
Unfortunately, you couldn't quite organise the sunshine for us, but you gave it a very good try with your sunny dispositions!
Good facilities, nice touches in room eg chocolates, cake on arrival, dressing gowns, very clean, good range of food.
It looked much larger in the pictures. There were no real views from bedroom as expected. The owners were overly attentive and talkative to the point that you felt your privacy intruded upon and unable to relax (or even eat your breakfast!) - this defeated the point of going there.
The whole experience
Nowt as they say in those latitudes.
The food, service, hospitality and the little extras. Cakes on arrival, chocolates and fruit in the room. Cordial, water and milk in fridge.
Jane and Simon are perfect hosts, helpful in every way; excellent breakfasts, excellent recommendations for local activities and restaurants + Yorkshire Dales area was enjoyable to visit
One of the most comfortable stays we have ever had. We felt at home here in this excellent B&B.
Great to see the REd Squirrels outside your bedroom window
Wi Fi a bit slow and patchy coverage in the room
Practically all of it. Jane and Simon have thought of everything and they are definitely the right people for the job they do.
The only thing for me was the chairs in the bedroom, I would have appreciated something a little more comfortable, but that is a personal choice.
Warm welcome Location Underfloor heating in bathroom Room facilities
Had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Lovely location, lovely hosts. Would recommend it to anyone and will certainly visit again.
Jane was really welcoming and helpful with local info including walks and very nicely dryed our wet walking stuff. We had the ground floor room which was large, had big bed and great shower. Food was really good and Jane left us home made cakes when we arrived.Old building so could hear guests in room upstairs walking around so would chose upstairs room next time. Would stay again.
You could not wish to meet more welcoming or hospitable hosts as Simon and Jane. They seem to have thought of everything. We enjoyed a lovely home cooked 3 course evening meal in our room and a superb breakfast each morning. We will, without doubt, stay here again.
Welcome. Delightful owners. Relaxing/beautiful room/facilities/ small terrace/ red squirrels/helpfulness/ good information/excellent good quality food/ nothing too much trouble/would have stayedlonger if able to.old world charm/
From the moment we arrived, we couldn't have been more pleased with EVERYTHING! Beautiful room, attention to detail, everything for your comfort was considered, even down to the fresh flowers in your room each day. Hosts were delightful and so helpful. By far the best B & B we've stayed at in England. I would recommend this without hesitation. Excellent 10 out of 10!!
Comfort/ Ambience Decor Food Hosts Everything was perfect!
Excellent accommodation and food. Simon and Jane are very friendly and hospitable hosts.
Excellent 5 star accommodation with a warm friendly welcome from Jane and Simon. Breakfasts were delicious. The room had everything we could possibly need and was of a very high standard. Good walk recommendations (and maps) from Simon and advice of where to eat were much appreciated. This is the best b&b we have ever stayed at and is in a beautiful area with lots to do.
Simon and Jane were very welcoming and helpful. Coffee and cake on arrival was a lovely touch! We loved the breakfast - especially the homemade muesli! It was a real treat to stay there!
We loved everything!
Simon and Jane were perfect hosts. The B&B is stunning. My only downside was I didn't get to see the elusive red squirrels.
Room was very cosy and nothing has been missed. The welcome and helpfulness of the owners was warm and can't be faulted. The owners gave us lots of very useful and valuable information about the locality. Breakfast was stupendous and locally sourced.
Our stay was too short !
