I was given access to a Steinway grand piano, which the owner let me play during my stay. Very good.
People attending the house, speaking a lot of languages includiing an excellent Italian. A lot of animals, mainly cats. Quiet and near to everything interesting in the Adrian wlaa
Loved the peace and quiet. Lovely place and only 10 mins from the pubs.
It was all fine.
Individual house and garden
.Friendly and welcoming host. Excellent breakfast. Beautiful garden and cats were a delight.
Quirky, comfortable, generous surroundings. Comfortable beds. Fascinating hostess. Great breakfast. Lovely cats. Quiet. Many interesting things to look at, read and enjoy. We will recommend it to our animal loving friends.
There was nothing at all we didn't like but if you are not a cat lover this isn't the place for you.
The cats were a laugh. Got everywhere. Bed was fine, breakfast was great, other guests were fine, hosts were really friendly.
The entrance was not obvious, sign could do with an arrow, plus a name plate at the end of the driveway. It's a 5-way junction, and my Garmin SatNav got the wrong side.
cats and breakfast
Beautiful location, lovely rooms, use of lounges.
Shirley did a splendid job running the place while Eileen was away on Holiday. The welcoming atmosphere.made us feel like we was visiting a family member. Since we love cats, this was the perfect spot for us.
Cats and garden. Fantastic breakfast
Fabulous hospitality with a truely eccentric charming host. Wonderful breakfast spread.
Shower a bit ordinary
Made to feel at home, good breakfast, Nice gardens, cats, donkeys. None of them intrusive on our stay, animals and staff very friendly.
Greeted by friendly staff and afternoon tea. Lovely garden and surroundings, will definitely be back. Very interesting host, nothing too much trouble for them.
Loved the safari. But most of all the cats.
This was a very pleasant stay for us..... clean and comfortable rooms, beautiful gardens and a friendly hostess. Breakfast was great and served in a lovely room.Great location from which to Birdoswald's Hadrian's Wall and the Housesteads Roman Fort. Although touted as a house for cat lovers, they did not bother us at all.
had the run of the entire house including a very expensive piano
you have to like cats
Thornley house was just beautiful. We loved the cats and the decor. Shirley was very friendly and welcoming. Our room was large with a beautiful view of the countryside. Great breakfast, nothing was any trouble.
We loved it all!
Friendly atmosphere and discussions with owner about travel. Donkeys were an added attraction. Many cats share the house
Our hostess was very welcoming and an extremely interesting person. Well read and well travelled. A manager is of animals and an absolutely beautiful garden. Would have loved to have stayed for two months !! Very comfortable.
If you love cats, you'll love Thornley House! (If you don't, I'd advise you stay elsewhere). Lovely host, and beautiful feline friends. All very good company. Hearty breakfast made with love- the best that we had in our 2 week holiday, actually. Was a bit of a gloomy day when we were there but the gardens looked beautiful, too.
Couldn't find the code for the wifi so can't comment on that.
The owner is so friendly it is like staying with someone you know. Don't stay if you don't like cats - there are several of them, but this just added to the feeling of being at home. Easy walk to village, lovely countryside, breakfast very nice.
Our room was supposed to be ensuite but was actually a private bathroom next door - not a problem, but perhaps needs to be advertised differently
This place is unique. Such a beautiful house and gardens. Even if you aren't mad keen on cats don't be put off staying here because they are gorgeous and well behaved. The entire house is lovely and full of interesting and unusual things. Beautiful crockery etc at a sumptuous scrumptious breakfast. Such a lovely calm place to stay . I will definitely recommend it to my friends.
Lovely comfortable house in a peaceful location full of interesting mementos of the owners travels. We especially liked the friendly cats! Wish we could have stayed longer.
Warm welcome. Comfortable room and interesting cats.
