Located adjacent to the Meare,golf course and gardens, and only a short walk from the beach, this hotel offers 30 large, en-suite bedrooms, restaurant and bars. The village was originally built on the early 1900's as a holiday destination for coloniels and their families home on leave from the colonies. The hotel and village offers a traditional quirkiness which in recent years has been renovated and upgraded.
Our own 18 hole golf course is one of the finest in East Anglia and is often compared to Woodhall Spa, a test for the experienced golfer.Golf at Thorpeness should be requested when making a reservation for accommodation. Subject to availability golf may also be played at Aldeburghl golf course. A valid handicap certificate is required at both courses, and terms and conditions apply.
For lovers of out door pursuits Thorpeness is only 9 miles from one of the best shooting schools in the Uk. Highlodge at Hinton offers ideal facilites for the novice or experienced shooter.We do advise booking early particularly at the weekend.
Only 4 miles from Minsmere RSPB centre one of the hot spots for birdwatching on the heritage coast.
If the arts are your passion both Aldeburgh and Southwold offer galleries and craft shops. Snape Maltings is only a short drive away. Famous for the Britten Festival, concerts take place throughout the year and the complex has restaurants and bars, craft shops and galleries well worth visiting.
The hotel offers excellent meeting and conference facilities, coupled with a range of activites for team building and away days. Self catering available for couples and families.

The hotel has 30 comfortable rooms, some with recently refurbished bathrooms. Many overlook the Meare or gardens and golf course.
There are 2 bars, one is traditional and oak-panelled and the Patio Bar is more contemporary, serving hot and cold snacks and beverages throughout the day until 21:00.
Breakfast is served from 07:30 until 09:30 (10:00 on Sunday).
The room service menu includes breakfast and a variety of other dishes and is available from 07:30 until 21:00.
The dinner menu changes daily featuring fresh local produce from independent suppliers. Reservations can be made for the restaurant between 19:00 and 21:00 - we do advise booking in advance. The restaurant is a non-smoking area.
For guests arriving after 21:00, please do contact the hotel and we can advise on special arrangements.
A drawing room and library are quieter areas of the hotel with comfy sofas and a supply of card and board games. The snooker room has a full-size table, sky TV and a darts board.
Our own 18-hole golf course has been compared to Woodhall Spa or Sunningdale. There is also the opportunity to play at Aldeburgh golf course. Green fees vary through the year and a handicap certificate is mandatory.
Cycles may be hired all year round and tennis is free to guests, with the exception of July and August.
The hotel bar has comfortable Lloyd Loom furniture and an open log fire.The popular Patio Bar has serves a selection of hot and cold dishes and beverages throughout the day.... The Restaurant offers elegant dining, enjoy traditional and contemporary dishes useing fresh local produce. For quiet momments try our drawing room or library. The terrace overlooks the lake and gardens, where from Easter until the end of October the hotel has rowing boats for hire.Even in the Winter months, on a sunny day you can enjoy the terrace and views.
The restaurant offers traditional and contemporary dishes using fresh local produce.The dinner menu offers a choice of starters, main courses and puddings plus coffee and mints. A vegetarian option is available for each course, and quality seasonal meat, game and fish dishes are a speciality.... Lunches are served in the Patio Room and dishes are individually priced..... Both the Restaurant and Patio Bar are non smoking....... For private dining for up to thirty guests the Lakeside Room is the perfect venue.
The sunset over the Meare is not to be missed. A wonderful location to discover the Suffolk coast, excellent coastal walks, birdwatching and wildlife.The hotel is happy to loan guests binoculars.
Cycles may be hired from the hotel and tennis is available on seven hard courts only a short walk away.
Tennis is free to hotel guests excluding July and August.

The peace and quiet and freedom to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant
The bathroom needs to be updated and is a little tatty. The shower was very poor. Need an extra shelf to put toilet bags etc on

The food was very good, both the evening meal in the Restaurant and the Breakfast.
I would have felt more comfortable in the Restaurant if other guests were more casually dressed (as we only had jeans with us).
