The room was excellent. The food is fine although service could improve substantially.
The annexe in which the room was situated is attached to what really is a very traditional town "hotel". Hence smoke from the smokers area in the courtyard permeates into the room so a non smoker will want to keep their window closed or suffer a very unpleasant smell of smoke from cigarettes. A great shame as the room would be hard to beat in Barnard Castle otherwise!
We booked into The Three Horseshoes for three nights last week and were delighted we had done so.The accommodation was very comfortable, the food was excellent and the service was friendly and helpful. Steve and Linda Green have done a fantastic job restoring and refurbishing this old property and deserve to have a great future there. Our thanks to all concerned for a very enjoyable stay.
Friendly staff, good dinner and breakfast. Room well furnished and comfortable.
Room too hot! Also window was overlooked so curtains had to be drawn whilst changing.
Lovely comfortable room and bed, beautifully presented and also a great bathroom. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the staff very attentive.
Bedroom 1 was stunning.
Good location, nice room and bathroom, good breakfast and helpful staff
Shame they don't serve dinner on Sundays
Good Location, exceptionally comfortable bed, staff extremely helpful. We will certainly book again when in the area.
Nothing to dislike.
This hotel has been very recently renovated with care and a flair for design throughout. The hotel section: the reception desk and the rooms are kept separate from the pub part of the building. Our spacious room was beautifully furnished with a very large bed! The bathroom was very tasteful and the shower was huge! The staff were very efficient, cheerful and friendly, and the food, breakfast and dinner was well cooked and the menu varied. Overall a superb hotel we would definitely use again.
Not really a dislike at all: the hotel does not serve dinner on Sunday evenings, but recommends three nearby restaurants. We tried one and were delighted with the food and service.
slight noise in street following closing time.
Everything was great. Lovely very clean, modern, and friendly.
Lovely new rooms, the old façade of the building on the historic street belies the luxury within! The food was excellent - the steak were superb.
Nothing, all good!
Decor, cleanliness, staff, very good pub grub and breakfast
Our.room was quite noisy as next to pub garden
Food was excellent and drink prices reasonable.
Car park a bit of a squeeze.
Central location very convenient to places of interest. The feeling of relaxation about the place, the size of the room.
there wasn't anything I didn't like
Everything about the hotel was 1st class - the position, the staff, the cleanliness, the food, the room, parking (including full directions) - well worth a visit.
i booked 4 rooms for an overnight stay as we attended a wedding. i can honestly say everything - from the friendly welcome on arrival to the tasteful decor and (most important to me) the cleanliness of bathroom facilities - was perfect. the breakfast was excellent with quality produce and very well cooked. thank you so much - we will definitely recommend to everyone!
This family owned hotel has clearly undergone considerable refurbishment/investment resulting in a quality establishment - would certainly recommend to others.
Light from the main building shining through the curtains at night - blackout curtain would help this and improve the quality of sleep.
Excellent food, good room with comfortable bed and all very clean.
Very comfortable bed. Friendly bar/restaurant and central location. Good food.
Noise in the courtyard outside our room.
We broke our journey north here and were delighted with our welcome, well appointed room and lovely evening meal. The breakfast was top notch, fresh local ingredients cooked to order. It was the best of our whole trip!
Nothing to dislike.
Modern rooms offering every comfort . Good food and excellent service .Clearly refurbished to a high standard & offering very good value.
Nothing . Might have a notice indicating where reception is when entering from the car-park at the rear of the hotel but the hotel itself was exceptional.
Everything. Friendly staff superb food bedrooms very nicely decorated tasteful.
Well presented accommodation. We stayed in rooms 1 & 2 which were to a high standard. Characterful small country hotel. Beer garden. Attractive market town with a Norman castle, the Bowes Museum (chateaux style!) and both town and riverside walks.
Tea at breakfast was poor (otherwise the breakfast was good). Bar areas very noisy in the evening due to room acoustics. Inexplicably small bags of plaster left in the reception area on Saturday evening and still there Sunday morning!
We had time for a quick drink at the bar before our taxi arrived. Unfortunately one member of bar staff who was cleaning glasses seemed to be unable/unwilling to serve us. We were ignored by the bar manager who was behind the bar and serving another customer but failed to direct any other member of staff or even communicate with us and so we reluctantly walked away.
