A 200-year-old farmhouse set in a quiet location on the edge of the village of Thropton, this B&B has free Wi-Fi and views across the River Coquet valley to the Simonside Hills. The bedrooms at Thropton Demesne Farmhouse B&B are tastefully decorated in a traditional style and have a fireplace, flat-screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities. The bathrooms have power showers, luxurious towels, bathrobes on request and complimentary toiletries. Breakfast is served in the conservatory and/or the dining room. We ideally serve breakfast at 8.30am although we could serve earlier by prior notice. Breakfast includes fresh fruit, yogurt, choice of cereals, fruit juice, tea, coffee and a range of cooked items such as omelets, stuffed croissants, eggy bread, porridge, toast and preserves. There is some construction work for the conversion of old farm buildings taking place on adjoining land to the rear of our property which can cause some noise, but only at normal working times. This is beyond our control but we feel guests should know of this. The ancient market town of Rothbury is just 2 miles from Thropton Demesne Farmhouse and Northumberland National Park is a 5-minute drive away. There is free parking at the property. Fishing on the River Coquet for salmon, sea trout and brown trout is less than 1 mile away. Day tickets available from Northumbrian Anglers Federation. The magnificent Cragside House and Estate are 3 miles from us and historic Alnwick with its world famous castle and garden 20 minutes away by car.

Company info

Pauline and Dave have been hosting B&B guests for 20 years, many of whom return year after year. We love to welcome our guests into a relaxed environment from which they can enjoy their stay and be as active or as 'chilled' as they wish. In addition to their spacious bedrooms, guests have their own spaces within the house like the lounge or the garden in which to spend an evening after a busy day.

Property info

Situated at the edge of Thropton village and accessed by a private lane, Thropton Demesne is a 200 year old stone-built former farmhouse. In addition to the Demesne being our family home we have offered B&B accommodation to many guests from all over the world since 2002. The property enjoys views over the Coquet Valley to the Simonside Hills beyond. Currently 3 houses are under construction on adjoining land and the former farm buildings to the rear of us are undergoing conversion, but the Demesne comfortably offers private and secluded accommodation for guests who wish to explore the beautiful Northumberland countryside and our world famous visitor attractions, such as Cragside (2 miles), Alnwick Castle (13 miles) and Hadrian's Wall (20 miles).

Neighborhood info

Thropton has two village pubs, the nearest being a few minutes walk and which serves excellent food. In September a Spar convenience store and petrol station will open in Thropton. Rothbury is 2 miles away and has a range of shops, including a Coop supermarket, chemist, post office, doctors surgery, vets, restaurants and cafes and 3 pubs serving food.
