Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel  

This was an ideal location for what we needed for the weekend

Could have a little more information about getting about without a car

We stayed for 2 nights in an executive room which was quiet, well equipped and comfortable. The location, just off the M6 at Preston, was convenient for us as we were doing business on the Fylde and my son was due in Manchester Sunday morning, Location excellent for our needs.

Evening service in the Dining Room needs looking at. Childs meal served in oven hot dish - should have been decanted. This caused drinks being knocked over, staff quick to mop up. Waitress needed reminding twice about drinks order.

Restaurant food was excellent, as were the staff. Being on the river side of the hotel greatly enhanced the experience.

Breakfast not being included in the quoted price did detract from our impression of the hotel. The breakfast was also not worth the rather expensive price. The complimentary extras not being fully replaced was a first for us.

I had a business package which was not included on the bill it was easily fixed so a minor irritation.

Excellent breakfast, although the plates were very small! The restaurant staff were also very good. Lots of satellite channels on a good sized TV in room.

Room was stale-smelling - opening the window told me why - it was badly maintained and had to be lifted into its closing position. Bathroom was mildewed all round the window, probably for same reason. Decor was somewhat dated and beds had blankets rather than quilts. At £65 for one night I thought it overpriced.

The fact we couldnt get a drink or pot of tea at 11.30p.m. when we got back in. Missed not having tea and coffee in rooms

Have stayed at the hotel many times en route south from our home. It's location suits our needs, it's comfortable, convenient and the staff are very friendly. We will stay there agian on our next journey south.

This was my first stay at the Tickled Trout, and coming from Preston I was well aware of its location close to the M6, however we were given a riverside room and only a faint drone of traffic could be heard with the windows open. Very good value for money the rooms were warm and comfortable, and although a little dated now can't really knock it for value for money. Stayed with 2 dogs and found everybody to be very welcoming (£15 surcharge per stay was quite reasonable). As we were visiting family we didn't get chance to eat in the restaurant. Comfy bed and slept fairly well, hardly any noise from other guests. Having stayed at the Ibis in Preston on previous occasions I can definitely say that I will be choosing the Tickled Trout over the Ibis, on future visits.

Only a minor point, furniture quite dusty below waist height (table legs and bases etc), also blankets on the bed.
