Impressed by staff referring to me by name as opposed to the more formal "sir" etc.
The staff were outstanding beyond compare. The hotel building is beautiful and interesting. It was a huge bonus having a snooker table available. The chef is extraordinarily talented and I can't wait to go again.
I cannot fault the place
restaurant food, breakfast and restaurant staff were all excellent.
the house and room looked quite tired.
Staff very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The bedroom was first class so was the food. The grounds were stunning.
Friendliness of staff in addition to efficiency. Food very good. Overall comfort of hotel
We were in a bedroom at the very top floor and I found the 68 stairs up to our room quite difficult ( we are a fairly elderly couple and I do not keep all that fit ). A lift part of the way up would have been helpful.
Spacious feel. Friendly and helpful staff (and manager). Handy location.
We really cannot imagine a better, more friendly and more beautiful hotel of its kind.
Moving on after just one night.
The staff are fab , the hotel is very clean , food is wonderful we stayed 2 nights with 1 dog and. It was lovely
stayed here four times just love coming back..its like stepping back in time..the food we had this time was exceptional.. cant wait to return again
need a longer stay :)
Superb location really away from it all. Peaceful, beautiful views. Lovely old house. Extremely helpful and courteous staff. Splendid food. (And not forgetting the billiards room.) It all exudes style and class.
Nothing really. The only reason I could think of why a hotel of this class only has 3 stars is because it is not full of techno mod cons but harks back to an earlier era (making it even better for an escape to the country).
Everything, the staff are so friendly, the food was great, probably the tastiest breakfast i have had in any hotel for years.
Poor phone signal but that's not the hotels fault
Excellent value for money. Staff excellent and helpful.. Food and service excellent
The whole package was ideal, service, food and comfort.
The building is stunning and the location is not too far from the A1. The staff are really friendly and go out of their way yo help.
Rain, but can't blame the staff for this
Beautiful location and very comfortable with lovely staff. Very clean and a lot of thought and effort goes into the guests needs.
VERY noisy room above the kitchen, found it impossible to sleep through the noise of fridges and freezers going off and on all night.
The feeling we were the only guests, did not hear any other guests only at meal time, but we were all in our own space. The staff made us feel very special.
Nothing at all
We attended a wedding breakfast at the hotel and booked in to stay that evening. The food was excellent and surroundings beautiful. The staff, particularly the restaurant manager, couldn't do enough for us. They clearly enjoyed making sure both the day, and our stay in the evening were brilliantly organised yet relaxed. Reception staff were most helpful in sorting out a problem with our car - nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We'll definitely be coming back.
We managed to book the last room which was a smaller room on the top floor. It was a very nice room with very comfortable beds. However, I saw the room with the four poster bed above the dining room. We'll try and book that next time!! :-)
Lovely grounds ... Friendly knowledgeable and helpful staff and very cool and welcoming to our dog..
Victorian Architecture and Decor Four poster bed Personal Service Grand Lounges Big windows and countryside views Location 3 miles from Coldstream Menu and Food Quality, service and presentation Very quiet location

Actually able to find somewhere with single room that isn't a box room! Excellent service Excellent, friendly staff. Nothing too much trouble. Beautifully presented dining. Lovely food at great value for money. Beautiful, well kept grounds.
