We very much appreciated the relaxing atmosphere and ambience of the hotel, and the warm friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff. Mealtimes were a joy, with expert presentation given to the well cooked food which was served by courteous and well trained staff. Our large bedroom overlloked the wonderful gardens, and every comfort was appreciated - the comfy armchairs, and the fine bedlinen. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and as the weather was excellent we enjoyed several fine walks in the area. We shall certainly return!

Beautiful and elegant interior with delicious breakfast. Most of the hotel staffs are very friendly. Because the hotel is located in country side. Some insects like butterfly may hide in the room.

Everything. The most thing that strikes you that type of place it is. It seems unspoiled. Decor, furniture is keeping within the building. It's so clean and the excellent and the food fantastic. It feels like a home and a cosy feel about it. The weather but what could you do about it? If staff could I'm sure they would have tried.

We booked this on the day as a stop over travelling from Scotland to the South West. What a gem. Stunning country house with 4 poster bed. Despite the grandeur we were made to feel utterly at home by the wonderful staff. A mention must go to Shirley, Sarah and Grant who looked after us so well. Beautiful rooms with endless woooden paneling and roaring fires. Gorgeous dining room with great food. We were so taken by the place we stayed a second night just to soak up the atmosphere. We are already planning when we can go back for a long weekend. Simply stunning. Better signposts from Cornhill as it is further than you imagine - we turned around once as we thought we had missed it

A unique and beautiful building, with proper fires lit in both lounge and bar. Lovely grounds and countryside round about. The staff were both local and very friendly- give me mature British staff any day! We had a lovely room, overlooking countryside. Decent pillows for once! However, the very ancient heating pipes made a very loud noise intermittently all night. Not restful. When I mentioned this at checkout, it was clear I wasn't first to complain.

Beautiful surroundings - a view from every window! I stayed in the Garden Annex and insit when I re-book that I do so again. The hotel oozed history, stunningly pannelled in original wood and containing the most beautiful stained glass windows. The gardens and woodland are delightful. Breakfast was good quality and professionally delivered to our table by a long term employee of the hotel. The lounge rooms remind me of old Agatha Christie novels - superb! My partner and I definately inted to go back! Tv did not work very well. Hotel is going to have it repaired.

This is a very pleasant English Country House about 10 miles from Berwick on Tweed. Rooms are very comfortable and the dining room was very pleasant providing excellent meals. There is a perfectly comfortable, and charming English Country House lounge with WiFi available and so WiFi access was not an issue, however, I simply do not understand any hotel or lodge that does not ensure good WiFi access from each of its rooms. It is just too easy to provide. I mention this only in the hopes that this otherwise excellent place would make this one minor upgrade.

I returned to the hotel, having been there only a month ago, because I so much enjoyed being treated with such respect and friendship by the superb staff. The cuisine is always excellent, with strong emphasis on using local produce, hence salmon and borders meats are used creatively in producing classic dishes on an always interesting menu. In a unique old house the disabled guest will find few concessions, with no lift and no other aids such as hand rails on stairs and grab rails in showers etc. The staff are more than willing to compensate by willingly serving drinks and facilitate check-in/out at a room on a level to suit the guest,

It was very relaxing. Plenty of rooms within the hotel to sit and relax in peace and quiet without having to stay in the bedroom. Food exceptional. Views astonishing. A joy to stay there. Surroundings, interior and exterior of building are of a high standard. Would recommend it to anyone. Could have done with a fan in the bedroom as even with the windows wide open it was still very warm during the night. This is more a suggestion rather than a critisism. The only negative thing was that the toilet brush in room 6 was absolutely disgustingly dirty. However put in context, this was a minor point in comparison to the overall experience.

Lovely location set in wonderful grounds. Lovely views and very very peaceful, yet close to many places of interest. Staff extremely helpful. Large room full of character and very comfortable beds. Ideal for a quiet restful break. Absence of lift may be a problem for some people.

Not terribly thrilled. We were shown up to a room in the attic, up loads of stairs and we felt very claustrophic in it and asked to be moved. They found us a room in the Garden Annex. Quite nice, but very old fashioned. Felt the hotel was rather unwelcoming - absolutely no flowers in the garden, or seats outside - very stark. Food good, but rather old- fashioned. Ok if you like old-fashioned country hotels - but not for us.

This is our 5th. visit. Staff very friendly and always smilling. As soon as you enter to check in you feel welcome. Food, location cant ask for better. Will be going back again. No complaints, but, a lift to top floor would be usefull for older people.

Great location, stunning building with a tremendously impressive interior, very comfortable lounges and lovely dining room. Large, well- kept grounds with woodland walks. It was like being a guest in a stately home. The staff struck the difficult balance of being extremely professional and very friendly and they were very accommodating of our small dog. Very generous breakfast options and the hotel were able to meet our vegan needs. We booked at a discounted rate and found it to be magnificent value. There was nothing about the hotel that we did not like.
