We very much appreciated the relaxing atmosphere and ambience of the hotel, and the warm friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff. Mealtimes were a joy, with expert presentation given to the well cooked food which was served by courteous and well trained staff. Our large bedroom overlloked the wonderful gardens, and every comfort was appreciated - the comfy armchairs, and the fine bedlinen. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and as the weather was excellent we enjoyed several fine walks in the area. We shall certainly return!

The staff was excellent, very helpfull. The hotel is situated in a big park with the river so you have a lot of space for walking. The public spaces are very comfortable. One evening when we were seatind near the fire-place it had been lit especially for us! The room with the four-poster bed was very big and the view from the window was beautifull.

Everything. The most thing that strikes you that type of place it is. It seems unspoiled. Decor, furniture is keeping within the building. It's so clean and the excellent and the food fantastic. It feels like a home and a cosy feel about it. The weather but what could you do about it? If staff could I'm sure they would have tried.

This is our 5th. visit. Staff very friendly and always smilling. As soon as you enter to check in you feel welcome. Food, location cant ask for better. Will be going back again. No complaints, but, a lift to top floor would be usefull for older people.

Great location, stunning building with a tremendously impressive interior, very comfortable lounges and lovely dining room. Large, well- kept grounds with woodland walks. It was like being a guest in a stately home. The staff struck the difficult balance of being extremely professional and very friendly and they were very accommodating of our small dog. Very generous breakfast options and the hotel were able to meet our vegan needs. We booked at a discounted rate and found it to be magnificent value. There was nothing about the hotel that we did not like.

We booked this on the day as a stop over travelling from Scotland to the South West. What a gem. Stunning country house with 4 poster bed. Despite the grandeur we were made to feel utterly at home by the wonderful staff. A mention must go to Shirley, Sarah and Grant who looked after us so well. Beautiful rooms with endless woooden paneling and roaring fires. Gorgeous dining room with great food. We were so taken by the place we stayed a second night just to soak up the atmosphere. We are already planning when we can go back for a long weekend. Simply stunning. Better signposts from Cornhill as it is further than you imagine - we turned around once as we thought we had missed it

A unique and beautiful building, with proper fires lit in both lounge and bar. Lovely grounds and countryside round about. The staff were both local and very friendly- give me mature British staff any day! We had a lovely room, overlooking countryside. Decent pillows for once! However, the very ancient heating pipes made a very loud noise intermittently all night. Not restful. When I mentioned this at checkout, it was clear I wasn't first to complain.

I cannot speak too highly of this magnificent hotel. I went for geneaology reasons - possibly related to ancestors of the house owners. I came away in awe of a beautiful gracious gentle friendly country house hotel. If the was and Excellent+ category I would use it. Chris Andrews

“We stayed for 3 nights and were upgraded by manager for free when we got there. It is a beautiful hotel, very clean and comfortable, the staff where excellent . The food was really good , we have stayed in 5* hoteks in the past and i would say the collingwood arms were better than some of them. Thank you kevin and all your staff for a lovely 3 day break, we will return in the summer.” Nicola, Liverpool |
