Staff very friendly, food excellent and good value for money.
Nothing - will definitely stay again if in the area.
Good food Good atmosphere
A little bit cold
We arrived tired and cold to be greated by the owner, Jim, who could pass for Basil Fawltys brother only where Basil is nefarious, Jim is warm and caring. Lovely place, good food and a great bar.
We arrived at around 7pm with three small kids and we were checked in with no fuss and shown to our spacious room. The decor was a little dated and the proprietor did resemble Basil faulty a little in mannerism and looks but as with Basil he was very genuine and helpful to us. With young kids we are always worried when staying away that outside noises will wake them but at Tors Warren we didn't have to worry about that with everyone no waking until 8:40 the next day (usual waking time in our house is anytime before 7am). The helpful staff actually woke us so we would not miss out on breakfast (which was excellent). I would recommend this as a stop over destination or as a base for exploring the local area for anyone with a young family.
The room got very cold at night. They had an oil heater in the room which we turned off so it was probably our own fault and if we had stayed for longer than one night we would have probably left the heater on for the night.
Friendly, flexible and efficient staff. Breakfasts (the only meal I had) were first class. Accommodation was not plush, but perfectly OK
The hotel is exactly as advertised, its an old vicarage and very cosy. The staff are excellent and the owners can't do enough for you. the food is first class and very well prepared. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
Nice lady at breakfast & chap on checkout was friendly
Cold and could do with a make over
On arrival in torrential rain we were greeted by the soaked owner who had been on the roof trying to unblock gutters. He was very friendly, we had arrived earlier than anticipated because we did not stop on our drive due to the heavy rain. The arrival scene, the owner reminded us of 'Fawlty Towers' and this is not meant as a negative comment. I am sure the owner has been made aware of this as there was a brochure at reception called 'Fawlty Tours'. The evening meal was in the pub area and I think we were the only two residents dining. It was quiet and the meal was satisfactory. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast (just the two of us) was cooked and served by the chef. She was very attentive but not over bearing. A good cooked breakfast can be easy to do but also one that can be very easily destroyed. The chef obviously cared about food and had a passion for cooking. IT was one of the best cooked breakfasts I have had in a long time including having stayed at a very highly rated country house in Northumberland the week before. I would have liked to have sampled that Chef's cooking for an evening meal.
Partly our fault, we arrived early due to the rain (about 2,30pm) and the room was very cold. We had to climb into bed to keep warm whilst watching the Saturday Rugby.
The view from our bedroom window was outstanding, especially at sunrise
Food excellent. Beds comfy staff friendly
Not too much.4 poster bed was small and creaky and hard mattress.
Too remote and isolated.Should have stayed in Portpatrick.
Warm welcoming staff. Outstanding food and service
Room was small, lacking wardrobe space.
This hotel is ideally located for visitors to enjoy all the attractions of the area, while at the same time offering a peacefully secluded location. The staff were friendly, welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful, the menu was good and the food cooked to perfection. Our room was comfortable and rarely have I enjoyed such a peaceful night's sleep. All in all we had a very pleasant weekend and would thoroughly recommend the Torrs Warren as the perfect place for a holiday hideaway.
There was nothing not to like.
Staff were first class , friendly and helpful. Hotel was a great location to explore the Mull of Galloway. Food was excellent .
Hotel's atmosphere could have been better with some background music even the radio at breakfast .
Lovely hotel .food excellent. staff friendly enjoyed our stay.
The bed, the staff everything was lovely. Enjoyed my stay
Jim, Cindy and all the staff were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The room although small "Wee Front" was very comfortable and very clean. All meals we had were good. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to anyone. Excellent.
The only slight problem was, because it is off the beaten track it was a bit difficult to find at first!! Well worth the effort.
Pleasant staff Room comfort (blue room) Good area for touring Hotel value for money Very quiet area
The location is a bit off the main rd, very peaceful & pretty. Jim & Cindy are wonderful people, always friendly & helpful. The restaurant is quite nice, and the pub is nicely cozy, with delicious meals & incredible desserts. Room was quite comfortable with plenty of room & a beautiful view. Plenty of parking, too. Will definitely stay here next time we're in the lowlands.
Nothing. Was a delightful experience
everything was great friendly clean and food fantastic, we were made very welcome and kids were made feel extra special, highly recommend
I wish I could find something but I can't, other than checking out and leaving.
I stayed here on the last night of a 10 day driving holiday in Scotland. If it had been the first night I probably would've turned around and gone home! When we arrived there was a funeral party in the bar so being respectful we checked in and went for drive to see the area then came back for dinner (last orders at 8pm). Dinner was nice, very much home cooking but it was tasty and the portions were good. After dinner we went into the bar around 9 as the funeral people were leaving. Almost immediately the owner started to cash up and began to ask did we want to bring a drink to our room. We said no and stayed talking in the bar. At which point he started pretty much turning off the lights around us to the point where we had to go to bed at 9.45!! The hotel is in the middle of nowhere so there wasn't a option to go somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, we weren't looking for a party but after a long day driving and sight seeing it's nice to unwind with a few G&T's and discuss what we saw. I would never stay here again. I'm an adult and do not appreciate being told to go to bed like a child. They seem to miss the fact that this is unacceptable to paying guests. Also the room I had was like staying in somebody's bedroom from the 80's rather than a hotel room. Do not stay here!!
Breakfast was excellent and served to table.
On returning to hotel. car park it is a bit dark going to the front door so could be dangerous . It would require a censor light. Room was a bit cool during the night.
Good size room
Uninspiring menu Poor service Cold food Warm Wine
Attitude and helpfulness of the management and staff, location and attention to detail
We liked it all
