Very kind and welcoming staff. Great views. Beautiful region with wonderful walking on Exmoor. Superior double room was quite big. Lots of hot water and good shower. Free wi-fi, but only in the lobby area. Hotel is quite scruffy. Room superficially clean but needed more attention to cleaning in the corners. Upper car park was not in good condition - paths were quite treacherous with uncleared dead leaves.

Fantastic location.Ideally situatesd for purpose - visiting family. Good standard of room cleanliness. Friendly and attentive staff. The refurbishment works promise to bring the hotel up to its past high standards. It is undergoing a period of necessary refurbishment, and some areas are distinctly 'tired'.

We have visited and stayed at the Hotel before and so we were aware of the comfort and wonderful location. The Staff are always helpful and appear happy in their work, the Hotel is always clean and the Breakfasts are superb. The only issue we had (although it was resolved very quickly by staff) was the room we were initially allocated: this was not the room we believed we had booked - the view is lacking and it feels cramped and dark. The second room was still not what we had expected; the first time we stayed we were on the second floor with a beautiful view and there was generally more space. The room we stayed in this time was small with the bathroom door very close to the bed. However, in future we know to be very specific or to wait until we can have what we want.

Hotel was in a lovely location overlooking the sea. The sunsets each evening were wonderful to behold! The staff were all very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. At breakfast the service was good with plenty of choice available. The only problem was the mobile phone reception which was intermittent and unreliable but the hotel cannot be blamed for this.

The views of Lynmouth from in and around the hotel are wonderful. Getting a bit tired, however when I was there the hotel had just been taken over and was in line for a major refurbishment.

With out doubt the best thing about The Tors are the views. Have breakfast while watching sleepy Lynmouth come to life, boats going out, the greenery on the hills beckoning to be walked through. Evening cocktails on the sun drenched patio, and the stunning sunsets while eating dinner are all part of the package. The staff are so friendly and helpfull that it felt like staying with family, and the excellant food was an experience. While the public rooms were fairly well presented are bedroom did not match the standard expected. Very shoddy decor and furnishings, and poor quality bedding was very disappointing.

The location of The Tors Hotel is absolutely superb, high up on Countisbury Hill overlooking Lynmouth Bay with stunning views. My Bristol boarding school was evacuated to Lynmouth during WWII and the senior school was located at The Tors Hotel and the junior school at the Manor House below on the beach. From the age of 7-10 I was at the Manor House, but we came up to The Tors for art classes. I have very fond memories of toboganning down Countisbury Hill on tin trays during the snowy winter of 1945, when the staff had to trudge up to Lynton to fetch bread and milk because of no deliveries. As a walker/rambler I thorougly enjoyed walking up to Watersmeet one day on this visit and to the Valley of Rocks and beyond to Woody Bay another day. It was a really lovely short break. The meals at the hotel were excellent and the manager went beyond the call of duty by picking us up from the car park on arrival and returning us to the Lynton car park on departure. It was extremely kind of him.

Excellent breakfast with very pleasant views over the sea. Very dated decor could do with a good update but it did encapsulate a bygone time holidaying by the sea. Very 'English'.

View from restaurant whilst eating One simple change-Not enough coffee/tea/milk in room for 2 guests. Not so simple-TV reception/number of channels was dire but nestled in the hills hardly surprising and probably no cable in the area.

Superb cooking - best I can remember for many years - and always a good choice at dinner. Wonderful staff - which means all staff from the most senior to the humblest servant - absolutely nothing too much trouble for them. Wonderful views from the front of the hotel (and my room) over Lynmouth and the Bristol Channel. The hotel is situated on a hillside among trees and wildflowers. The birdsong was far better than one would expect at a shore location, including the dawn chorus. The local people in the village were also helpful and courteous. Situated on the Northern edge of Exmoor there are plenty of good walks and much wildlife to see. A very, very pleasant holiday base. Only two very tiny niggles. The television screen in my room was a shade on the small side. Owing to the hotel's location there was difficulty with mobile phones and the daytime landline charges were a bit on the high side. But these are very tiny niggles and should in no way deter anyone from staying at this lovely hotel in this idyllic location.

We had a lovely stay. The hotel has beautiful views. Two things made it truly memorable. One was the very friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The second was the excellent food. It was superb, well designed and presented and very tasty.
