The grounds are beautiful and the room was very comfortable. Staff were not particularly friendly or efficient. Hotel had 4 weddings going on over the weekend, so loud, drunken wedding guests dominated which was not condusive to a relaxing weekend break.

Good value weekend half board in pleasant location with facilities as expected. Pity the room at the top was empty and unused, it used to be a nice sitting area. The restaurant menu wasn't as good on Sunday as it was on Saturday which was a disappointment, There used to be dance weekends, why no more?

I liked the beautiful parkland setting and being in the country. It was unusual building with a lot of history attached to it and new buildings had been sympathetically designed around the original building. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay there again.

The hotel is set in amazing grounds and everything about it was relaxing and chilled. The Resteraunt does really nice afternoon teas which adds to the relaxed feeling . Only real downside was the room this being very small , ok its was only a standard room but in such a greand hotel this was a real let down.

A beautiful building. Staff were extremely friendly and seemed to like children. The grounds were superb and encouraged us to walk which is incredible as we are a lazy family. The rooms were clean and spacious, having all the mod cons such as an essential iron and board. Would have preferred if the wifi had worked throughout the building.

Very relaxing and friendly staff and service. Ordered room service breakfast but was told by receptionist that we could not have room service because we had not hung the breakfast form out on the door the night before. Spoke to the manager who resolved the issue promptly.

I booked this for a single night stay-over. The hal-board package was outstanding value with the whole package cheaper than the local Premier inn b&B. The food was exceptional and the service throught my stay faultless. I had a nice sauna and swim before breakfast but ran out of time to use the gym, however from the comments in the changing room I believe the gym facilities are equally as good. I will definately stay here again while the offer price remains

A friendly hotel, with good food and good facilities. The room was airy and spacious, although a little more light would have been useful as the windows were rather small, but that is expected in a period building. The grounds are pleasant to walk around. We have stayed in other "Four Pillars" hotels before and like the brand. This weekend was to celebrate our being together for 1 year, and there were a couple of niggles, but nothing to detract from an enjoyable weekend. The rooms are a little lacking in ceiling insulation (had to call reception at 7am on a Sunday and ask them to tell the people in the room above to stop stomping around). This was however dealt with promptly, and an apology made. The bar prices were a little over inflated, and as there are some very good local breweries, I was a tad disappointed to only find one real ale on the bar. The reception area was under renovation, which was not advertised at the time of booking, which meant following detours and temporary signs around the building.

The place is very beautiful and clean . the food is lovely too.my hubby abduction I went out for 30 minutes to the bar and when we came back the room object was tidy , housekeeping staff ha been. The only negative thing about those hotel is that the staff from the front door ( reception) to the waiters in the restaurant are or look grumpy and not friendly at all. Another thing is that you feel rushed when your having a meal in the restaurant .

Beautiful building and grounds Cheap/no "extras" - loo paper poor, no teapot, no range of biscuits, no hot chocolate. For this price, economies like this are disappointing

We had previously stopped here for coffee break and loved the building and gardens. Enjoyed reading about the Restoration project. A luxurious break point off the m5 for journeys north from Devon. It seemed a very long way to our room from reception and the room number signs were not always clear. However it was a good walk after the delicious filling meals!
