We had previously stopped here for coffee break and loved the building and gardens. Enjoyed reading about the Restoration project. A luxurious break point off the m5 for journeys north from Devon. It seemed a very long way to our room from reception and the room number signs were not always clear. However it was a good walk after the delicious filling meals!

The quick check out! We found the room to be very dull and dinghy. The bathroom was in need of updating; rust around the taps and plug hole as well as dirty marks on walls. The room was also extremely hot and when we requested a fan it took the best part of an hour for somebody to find one. The reception staff were efficient but rather brusque and not welcoming at all. They had not passed on a specific request to the dining room, or so we were told. By comparison, we thought that the restaurant staff were very pleasant but an early breakfast is a must to avoid the long queues.

Quiet and peaceful location with spacious rooms and some attractive architecture. The breakfast is excellent and diner is better than you might expect from reading the menu. The lounge at the top of the tower is very relaxing with some reasonable views. The hotel is widely spread. Do not carry your cases from reception to your room. It can be a long way. Porter service is available but it is easier to take your car to a parking space nearer your room.

Make sure you don't get room 9, you will hear the running machines from the Gym from 06:00 - 22:00, the constant pounding will sound like somone beating a huge drum beneith you. I noticed this as soon as we checked into the room, i expressed concern and asked what time the gym closed, i was told 22:00. As we were going out and arriving after 22:00 i though nothing more, and didn't want to burden anyone with moving room. I had not thought to ask what time the Gym opened! There is no way we are the only ones to have complained about this.

The grounds are beautiful and the room was very comfortable. Staff were not particularly friendly or efficient. Hotel had 4 weddings going on over the weekend, so loud, drunken wedding guests dominated which was not condusive to a relaxing weekend break.

Gorgeous scenery which you can enjoy whilst you eat your breakfast in the library. The food is beautifully cooked, especially at dinner, and the staff are very welcoming.

Beautiful building and grounds Cheap/no "extras" - loo paper poor, no teapot, no range of biscuits, no hot chocolate. For this price, economies like this are disappointing

The location and the gothic architecture of the main entrance building. Hotel staff were unprofessional. The restaraunt food was average. Unexpected in a nice hotel. The room/decor was very tired looking.

The room service staff were very good and the spa facilities were very good Checked in and was given a stand double room with none of the "extras" we'd paid for. Having complained I had to chase what was happening and they were arranging for the "extras" to be sent to the room we were in, not for us to be moved to the type of room we had paid for. This was eventually resolved, but meant we could use the spa facilities before dinner as there wasn't time.
