Hawkwell is a peaceful country house beside the River Thames, 2 miles from Oxford city centre. It has a 3-acre garden and serves modern British cuisine in Iffley Blue Restaurant.
Score from 731 reviews Very good
The food in the bar was lovely and the atmosphere was nice for a solo traveller. The room was adequate for a one night stay and the cost was very competative for the Oxford area. I will certainly stay again.
Good food and beer. The pub side is very good
Room in very poor condition with significant damp in bathroom. They say there are plans to upgrade in the New Year.
staff excellent and helpful. Nice meal. Nice location. Everything was really good except for a couple of problems with the room
Noisy room. Noise from the bar below. Noise everytime someone flushed a toilet or ran a shower. But, the worst noise was the boiler (I think it was the boiler) behind the wall in our room (number 2). It resonated through the wall all night and sounded like this giant washing machine going the whole time. If you stay here stay away from room No. 2 when the boiler is going.
the location, the pub, the quiznight (fridays), the staff, the beautiful house itself
the room especially the bathroom was outdated - overall too pricey for this standard
- Very old-fashioned decor: has not been renovated for many years. - Bar is extremely noisy - no chance of sleeping until closing time.
it was really dirty loud music poor toilet the water of the shower didn't run properly
It needed a refresh
Location of the hotel and food was good
Very dated, needs much attention and decoration throughout mainly the bedrooms and bathrooms
location Parking available Had a evening meal - very good Welcoming staff and facilities god
No bath mats or hand towels
Quite close to the River Thames which was a lovely 40 minute walk into Oxford
Whilst hotel was nice and clean some of the décor is in need of updating
Reasonable location not far from things to do and easy for ring road. Good place to eat excellent quality of food and service
Accommodation was dreary and tired looking with old fashion key system and shabby interior of room though bed was comfortable. Check in was a bit haphazzard with no clear reception instructions of who to see to check in
Rude staff, no sleep, staff washing up and shouting until very late (1am). Old décor and needs a lot of work, If someone uses toilet or fans wakes up the neighbouring room. Poor car park, had car bumped. Breakfast, would have like toast toasted, more like stale bread. All in all would never recommend, give a very wide berth. Disappointed used the hotel for a wedding stop over, definitely not worth the £93 a night. Had the key and left handbag and bags in room whilst attending a function in one of their rooms and came back to find door open and workman in room, surely once you have the key and personal baggage there should ask your permission to enter the room.
Staff members are very friendly, they serve good breakfast , Lunch and dinner.
The double bed looked like a single bed.
the best thing of it its location and the staff is pretty nice. also the food there is very good
the bathrooms aren't that much clean plus i saw some insects and the wifi was very low
The staff were very friendly. The size of the room was great and the location lovely and quiet. The restaurant was excellent.
It didn't worry us, but the room needs redecoration.
The food, the room with a view and the location with excellent parking. The manager and staff were all very friendly and helpful and welcoming. We wanted to see Oxford and the Cotswolds and this location was perfect for this. Glad we chose to stay there rather than in Oxford itself.
Homely feel to this small hotel. The walk into the city is lovely. The breakfast was excellent. Loved the tea and cookies in the room.
It's old and a bit tired and our bed was very uncomfortable.
the beautiful, large bay window badly needed maintenance and painting
The staff are friendly The indian cuisine is first class Room rates are reasonable for the area.
I assume the bathroom on the higher floor had experienced a major flood as the wallpaper in my bathroom was soaking where water had come through the ceiling, there was no mention of this on arrival. My debit card was charged twice, once at the time of booking and again after I left despite explaining that I had pre-paid. It took four weeks to refund my money.
Ample parking space. Room size was reasonable for a triple room.
Shower too small.
Bad location Stairs without a left to reach the room The bed shakes while asleep Very restricted breakfast menu and time
Nice, clean place with very friendly and courteous staff. They make you feel at home. Really cool place.
I slept well.
My room had water damage (despite no rain recently, or room above to have leaks?) with marks on the walls and some peeling wall paper on the ceiling. My complaint was dealt with OK and I received a £10 discount. However, I do not feel that this was enough considering but was told it was limited by their need to pay the booking.com fee. Worse still, there is no way this room - even when undamaged - was worth the £90 it was booked at and therefore the so called 64% discount from £250 advertised on booking.com must have been completely fictitious. I have stayed in hotels that have rooms truly worth £250 and expected that level of luxury here - on a discount - this was not one of those places. Oh, and there were beds for 4 in my single (!) room and no desk to work at. Confused and very disappointed.
Friendly staff, good breakfast, Value for money
A little noisy late at night but as many functions understandable
