Trout Hotel  

The room was large and it was nice to have a bath. The breakfast was also very good. The place was very clean and the restuarant was nice.

I felt the staff at reception were cold and not really interested in guests. Every morning was the same even though the staff changed. This is not a good introduction to a facility and needs to be changed.

I did find it annoying how you couldn't book the bistro. Although we were offered to wait in the bar until a table was free, this was difficult as the bar was busy and had no sitting place. We ate out during our stay as we found the restaurant a bit pricy. You seemed to have a half booked restaurant and a bistro bursting at the seams.

Lovely room and one of the best breakfasts we have had in a hotel. Will stay again and recommend.

Room 222 beds shudder when the entry door downstairs bangs shut.

Hotel was excellent -food, cleanliness and staff. We were even upgraded when we arrived.

Executive Double room was spacious, clean and very comfortable for my 2 night stay. Tv channels were fabulous. Bathroom was great with White Company products. Breakfast room was nice and elegant, but a little cramped. Terrace and outdoor seating is lovely along the river, shame the weather wasn't warm enough to enjoy it. Dinner in Derwent restaurant was lovely.

Place is a little like a maze - in order to get to the rooms you have to pass informal dining area where non-residents and residents may be having drinks/high-tea. So not much privacy when going in/out of rooms. Massages/Spa facilitiates are actually a separate shop 10mins walk from hotel (in the little town). We thought it was part of hotel. Limited parking on a Saturday, get there early to get a spot. Breakfast/dinner in Derwent restaurant is a little cramped. Most of the tables are cramped so you are seated very close to strangers. Ruins the ambience a bit I think, so try to get there early and select your own tables. Daily cleaning forgot to replenish toiletries and replace 2 small facetowels I left in the bathtub- but a quick call to reception fixed that.

Staff very friendly and helpful

Small niggle. Though not disabled, we were given a disabled access room. Strange that the door was so stiff we had a job to push it open! The lack of a bath and the high wc and low washbasin were a bit inconvenient for us

Not being able to book a table in the bistro. When we arrived the restaurant was full and we could not book for bistro so had to hang about waiting for a table and was then sat in a walkway.guests should be guaranteed a table.

Excellent value, friendly attentive staff, comfortable well appointed rooms, in relaxing surroundings. Good bar meals and restaurant.

went down to the bar and couldn't find anywhere to sit as it was so crowded, not even in the Bistro so ended up having to take my drink back to my room. bit dissappointed as I just wanted to sit in a sociable atmosphere, even though i was on my own.

We both enjoyed our room and the breakfast. The location was very good and we had a lovely view of the river. This is the first time we have stayed in Cockermouth, and It was a pity we could not sit by the river in the evening, but the weather was too cold, hopefully we will try to stay when the weather gets warmer.

The only problem was trying to have a drink in the bar in the evening we could not get a table, as the bar was crowded with people dining and we were a little annoyed that we had to go somewhere else.

The decor of the hotel was delightful, the food was excellent and the staff were friendly and happy to help - they gave us some good options for local walks

Staff were very friendly and the food in the restaurant was yummy.

The fact that they had a shower curtain in the bath which was starting to go mouldy on the bottom. It would make better sense to invest in a glass door. There was also some mould on the tiles which to me paying £130 a night is rather excessive.

The staff were very friendly but at the same time highly professional. Nothing was too much trouble for them and everything was done with a real willingness to please rather than "job's worth". Very clean, and the food was excellent.
