Score from 148 reviews Superb
The host was very attentive and the room was clean and a nice en suite with drink making facilities and TV. A nice size for a single room and in a good location between Penrith, Keswick and Ullswater. The downstairs area was very nice and the day I arrived had an evening meal (only was there 1 night before traveling on). The food was priced higher than some places but was very good and you could tell they were quality ingredients and well prepared, and eating with a real log fire really made it a nice experience.Similarly breakfast was also very nice and a nice choice of both cold and of cooked to order items. This would make a nice weekend place for a base for sight seeing or just as I used it as an overnight stop over.
Maybe a bit more expensive than some places if wanting to stay longer. The room was a bit cold despite turning the heating in the room to full, weather conditions were exceptional on my stay with very high winds and low temperatures so this may account, the bed was warm however and a good thick duvet.
Lady at breakfast was very friendly, and breakfast was good. Bed was very comfy, and room was well presented. Location was also very good - close to A66 but not noisy
Whilst we don't have central heating at home, I found my room to be cold - and the bathroom had no heating at all! TV's in the room were very small, and the 'free wi-fi' only works in a very small part of the hotel. Evening staff were not interested in us in any way at all.
Good location.staff great.food excellent
Nice friendly Inn, have stayed here before. Staff friendly, lovely food. Well placed for exploring the North Lakes. Good views of Blencathra.
If not driving & staying over the Christmas period then busses might not be running, so it will be difficult to Keswick and beyond(not applicable during normal periods, as there is a good bus service)
The open fire in the bar, friendly staff and the brilliant cooked breakfast.
Bathroom was very chilly in our room as no heater in it.
A great place to stay. Lovely room, great food and highly recommended. Will stay again.
Not a thing
We just love this place. It is our favourite bolthole. The food is superb and the location makes it perfect for us. Only 2 1/2 hour drive down from Scotland so we can be there in time for dinner on a Friday night. The whole area is lovely too.
Quality of the food, both evening meal and breakfast, was excellent.
Steps down to bathroom,
Comfortable and very good food
Shower very temperamental and was told that it is the way electric shower work.
Size of the room. Great breakfast. Quiet location. Great price.
The put-up bed for my son was very uncomfortable (it was dome shaped & too narrow for comfort) so we had to put the mattress on the floor. The other beds were good though.
Breakfast was fabulous. This was the first time we had stayed here but have been here for drinks and a meal when previously in the area.
The food was possibly the best meal we've enjoyed in the lake district.
Cramped room...chipped cups...and the slowest kettle in ten counties were the only aspects that we though needed a rethink.
Bed was comfortable, room clean facilities were nice. Staff were very helpful. Food was nice.
No Internet connection in my room. Room could have been a little warmer.
Value for money Staff Wonderful food Location
Perfect location for walks around Ullswater and Keswick. Room was excellent as was the meals.
Staff were lovely and helpful. The cooked breakfast was brilliant.
More choices of fresh fruit.
helpful staff, clean room, food to die for. A wonderful visit will be going back again have already recommended to friends, family and work mates.
Friendly staff and location
Bed was so hard I hardly slept. I arrived at 8.30 after a 5 hour drive and could not get any food. At 10.00 pm the front door was locked like Fort Knox.
Food at breakfast and dinner.
The shower lacked force and the flow ebbed and flowed when water was used elsewhere
Although close to the A66 there was no road noise and you are well placed to explore the North Lakes area. The staff were friendly and the food excellent. The only slight criticism would be that we would have liked a little more time between courses. However, this is a very minor point and both the breakfasts and evening meals over three nights were great. I would definitely recommend the Troutbeck.
Location and good food
Everything. Rowan the owner goes out of her way to make you comfortable.
Bit far away from other lakes and towns. But didn't mind travelling.
Wonderful atmosphere, and some of the best food ever. The log fire is magic!
