Family room was amazing and very comfortable. Even with the child's bed there was loads of room. We loved the little snug bar which was child and pet friendly. Hearty breakfast on departure rounded off a lovely stay at the hotel.
Unfortunately there had been a 21st birthday party at the hotel, where events got out if hand. The noise was incredible as the revellers emptied out into the street to continue their partying. This made for a very tired parents and child in the morning due to being kept awake till 0200.
Friendly family run hotel, staff very helpful. The standard of the evening meals and cooked breakfasts was excellent and the service was good. The room was spacious well equipped, clean and comfortable.
Wi fi was only partly available and not accessible from our room. The breakfast buffet could possibly be a bit more appetising for those not wanting the cooked option.
Comfortable beds. Divine modern bathroom in a character filled building . Centre of Appleby .Best scrambled eggs on our holiday !!Nice staff at breakfast.
weak wi fi signal.
Great location. Breakfast delivered to bedroom.
Warm wine at bar. Hair in bathroom and on bed cover.
Very good atmosphere. Camaraderie in the huntin' (as above) types.
Dogs which dribbled on your best clothes
Lovely welcome from pleasant reception. Worn but very comfortable lounges. Room was super clean, bed was comfy, no noise.. Very nice hospitality tray and complimentary toiletries. Lovely convenient location and would stay again
Fixed Overhead shower but no shower cap. Bar man must have had a bad day or a personality bipass.
Friendly staff. Food 7/10 The suite room 1 was reduced and was an amazing room and bathroom with large bathroom. Would only pay reduced rate as it was on the front of hotel. Very noisy Saturday night with pubs next door and opposite- people shouting and taxis pulling up till 1.30am (this will vary depending on night)
1 member of staff was rushed off her feet, being receptionist, bar lady and served in the restaurant.bit flustered, so it took 10 minutes for wine to arrive whilst guests who came in after us received theirs straight away. Wine was warm! We feel staff need more quality training.
A very convenient place to stay on our way to Scotland - huge elegant room and super comfy bed. Appreciated the tea-making facilities and cleanliness everywhere. The staff are very pleasant and we enjoyed having our very tasty dinner in the front bar rather than the more formal dining room. Ample breakfast with variety even though there were no pastries. Overall, the Tufton Arms is a very relaxing place to stay, and they even have easy-access rooms on the ground floor for those with limited mobility. Would definitely stay again.
Nothing - oh, except the strength of the breakfast tea... 5 pot bags in one pot!
Liked location tried to book for next years horse fair when we arrived home on Sunday (not a chance) ha ha. Had a really nice breakfast all very relaxed.
We went out for a drink and came back later to have a drink in the bar before going to bed. Was hit by a very fishy smell which must have been on the dinner menu was a bit off putting. Not a big deal but pillows to soft for me and my hubby
We had a free upgrade to a fabulous suite. The dinner was good and the breakfasts excellent
There was no cold white wine the evening we dined in.
Being in the heart of Appleby The food Peaceful
Bar service a bit slow White wine served a bit warm
Restaurant food was excellent, hot plentiful, good quality. I enjoyed my stay and would readily recommend.
Staff could have done with cheering up.! Young people doing the very best they can in the circumstances. In the bedroom folder was the 2008 tariff for fishing breaks. Really...
Very nice staff. Lovely room, spotless, modern and very comfortable. Decent breakfast. All excellent value for money. Would stay there again.
TV didn't work very well - the signal frequently got stuck.
Spacious suite with a separate living area. Cookies and tea were a delight. Centrally located with a more than adequate restaurant for evening meal and breakfast.
No elevator. Bags very heavy to carry up the stairs.
helpful staff, dinner served until 9 o'clock. Lovely bedroom, which appeared to have been recently refurbished.
not enough parking for all guests, and outside parking is chargeable from 0800 (although we were refunded the short stay charge) .
Wifi wasn't available in our room
Room was more basic than expected
Wonderful menu and wine list. I had the Gumbo which I think is the best meal I have even eaten in my life! Truly!
No lift as my husband and I both suffer from mobility problems, but the receptionist very kindly took luggage up for us
Great reception staff. Lovely room. Great location. Nice decoration.
Tea pot left with someone else's tea! TV in the suite's lounge area did not seem to work. Bit of a lack of toast and milk at breakfast on the second morning.
I thought the hotel was a gem and the staff were very professional and friendly. The restaurant food was lovely. I wish we had stayed more than one night.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the bedroom was well equipped, clean and comfortable. We chose to eat our evening meal in the restaurant and we were not disappointed. The food was exceptional and the service was fantastic. We were pleasantly surprised to find two wrapped white bathrobes in the wardrobe which we were glad of after a hot bath.
We cannot think of anything we didn't like about this hotel.
Lovely room/mini suite (Room 14.) Pleasant staff but waiting staff ineffective.
Coffee not available at 9.30pm on a Friday night. Appleby is under provided with quality restaurants so I ate in the hotel both nights. Chef obviously rates himself highly, unfortunately I didn't. Food was at best average to poor. Very disappointing. Suggest the chef googles how to cook chips. It's not rocket science. Also if customers have to wait 20-30+ minutes for food including breakfast, and yes I understand cooking to order but that's ridiculous, try offering bread or breadsticks to the hungry souls whilst they endure the wait!
The food in this hotel is excellent. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall a very pleasant stay and would definatley recommend.
No seating area outside, very little parking.
Friendliness of the staff and good food
Parking rather tight. Parking in the square outside subject to traffic regulations
