The castle, very helpful staff, great food, a very beautiful and peaceful location. Hoping to stay there again in the not to distant future.
Leaving at end of stay.
Bed was comfortable room was clean although rather small. Staff on reception very pleasant and helpful. Dining area and bar clean and reception area cosy and inviting with open fire.
The food left a lot to be desired. Both the bar meal and breakfast weren't very good. Raw sausage at breakfast and over cooked fish and an apology that was half hearted. Should have stayed 2 nights but left after the first.
Remedial work being undertaken -at last!
Bar menu hasn't changed in 3+ years
A great place, with very friendly staff. We were given an impromptu ghost tour by a staff member which made our stay brilliant. I would definitely recommend this hotel!
We had a most relaxing stay and nothing was too much trouble for the staff especially the receptionist on our arrival couldn't do enough for us and later in the evening she booked taxis for us to where we were going. We also had Dinner in the hotel and it was excellent, Steak Pie just melted in the mouth. Breakfast was excellent as well and there was a lot of choices on Breakfast Menu. Would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Gorgeous building, breakfast was good value
Loved living in a castle! Staff helpful - particularly Reception and Dungeon Bar. We stayed over Hallowe'en - v. atmospheric! Poached eggs at breakfast were delicious. I'm a critical veggie. Meat/fish eaters looked happy with offer of varied Highland offerings.
Stayed in a four poster room with my girlfriend on Halloween, because it's a supposedly haunted castle. I liked the fact that the room was cold when we walked in. Damp stains on the ceiling, 'Overlook Hotel' style carpets and wallpapers, creepy painting in the corner, the room had a very odd feel to it that was perfect for a stay in a Haunted Castle. Still had a good nights sleep in a comfy bed, excellent dinner and breakfast, staff were wonderful and the Ghost Tour was entertainment that you don't get at a Travel Lodge.
If we had been looking for modern luxury and comfort, we would have found much to complain about. But we weren't. So we loved it.
Naff beyond words. A pretend country house with pretend facilities. Shower was a joke. Everything falling apart. No care or attention. Sad, despondent place. Never again.
Helpful friendly staff. The food was excellent. The staff were knowledgeable about the surrounding area and made excellent suggestions for places to visit.
Friendly staff Clean rooms Very good food Atmosphere and heritage Good value
As other reviewers have said, it's a bit run down and could do with some redecoration and better lighting. So, if you want a Holiday Inn modern experience don't go, but if you want a real Scottish castle it's great fun.
Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was of good quality
Appreciate a castle but decor and rooms could be modernised. Wifi poor in certain locations but not a deal breaker
Can't say anything though the young girl on reception was understanding of our views - think she felt the same!
The bedroom décor was v. poor - paint peeling off the walls and we'd paid extra for the upgrade with the 4 poster! The heating wouldn't work, the room was freezing and our phones stopped as soon as we got in the room! We were then told of the ghost tours! We expected a bit of luxury not to be creeped out!
Staff, very nice! Loved the "ghost tour"!
The staff were welcoming and ready to help. Room very comfortable and lovely views Meals were well presented and tasted awesome including breakfast which had everything you could need
That it is a castle, in a convenient location on our travels. Staff was friendly and competent. Room was comfortable. With better housekeeping and new carpeting it would be a pleasure to stay here.
The trip through the halls to our room was memorable for the strong smell of carpet cleaning chemicals (tho disguised with an equally bad scent.) The desk surface in our room was sticky, the bathroom floor sticky underfoot, and worst: in the bar room/pub the plastic menus stuck to the table top.
The castle and its history, the staff were lovely and customer service was good.
The toilet in our room did not flush very well, My daughters bed was a fold out bed, the continental breakfast was poor quality.
Friendly employees, fireplace in the lobby and a fantastic room with a view number 12.
I loved everything.
Spacious bedroom, excellent toilet and bath facilities. Good food , helpful staff.
We were delighted with our stay no negatives
Breakfast server was lovely. Rooms were huge and warm.
Reception lady was rude and unaccomadating. Very intimidating
The food was very good
Quite a few stairs for mature people no lift
We loved our stay, the staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful, very welcoming, food was good, excellent breakfast, and plenty of hot water for baths! And we loved the ghost tour, led by assistant manager! Will definitely be back, well worth a visit..
There's. Nothing not to like.
Great Location Friendly, helpful staff Very Clean Comfortable Nice and quiet Easy to find This is our Clan ancestral home, and it was a highlight of our first trip to the United Kingdom. The castle is old and the décor blended with the character of the building. The assistant manager Graeme gave us a brief history of the castle and it was very enlightening. I would recommend the castle to anyone needing a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle of big multi story hotels. Although there are no lifts, it would be a great injustice to the character of the building if one was installed.
The only thing we didn't like was that we were unable to climb the steps to the top of the turret, to look out over the countryside. The steps are old and are considered to be unsafe by the powers that be, so the area is locked off to prevent accidents.
excellent location,best views,very good breakfast,thumbs up
poor wifi where we stayed
Not much, again, I hate to give bad reviews but this was just an overpriced stay
Walls very thin, could hear people in next room. Location just odd, construction going on right in front of castle. Not a welcoming updated clean castle, we ate at the bar and tables were sticky and place really needs a cleaning. Breakfast buffet sort of sad too. I upgraded my room and waste of money. Bed rock hard, same with pillows. Door to room primed, not painted, just sad. It could be so much more.
