Finding the entrance and the outward appearance was a little off putting, but not justified.

The fact we didn't see a ghost. Beautiful building. Staff extremely friendly.

I loved my room and the character and feeling of the whole Hotel. The late night Ghost tour was very interesting and I learnt things I wouldn't have known otherwise. Loved it!

Toilet in room would not flush.

Everything. Impression was much better than we expected after reading guest reviews. Good though not very spacious room, great food (both dinner and breakfast).

Quite cold in the room, as everywhere in Scotland, mainly due to old windows.

Dark and dingy. Poor food, very poor staff, way too expensive for what was provided. Is not a 5 star hotel. Window sills rotting and fallen off

Stayed here on the night of my daughters wedding which was held in the hotel. Couldn't fault a thing. Arlene the manager did an amazing job organising everything.

Reception staff weren't the most pleasant which would be my only minus of this hotel.

Visited for a wedding and the food was good, the breakfast however was poor with no chilled facilities leaving all food exposed. Main rooms for ceremony and reception were well laid out and serviced. Staff friendly and attentive.

Castle as a whole very tired and worn in need of upgrade. Our Room number 6 was worst room ever stayed in, very small, shower room shocking and shower unusable. Expensive for quality of room and breakfast provided.

I like that it was a castle

The receptionist was rude, seemed bored, wasn't helpful and just seemed like she was in a hurry to get back to her computer. Never offered a ghost tour, a history of the castle or any help with our bags.

Very nice apartment, well equipped with old furniture. Staff hotel were very nice and helpful. The castle has a nice old environment.

Water stopped two times during (no water at all) and the flow of water was very very low. But staff hotel tried to help.

Loved it! I felt like I had been magically transported back into time!!!

The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times, the room was very comfortable and warm. Its in a lovely location and is quite easy to find, would return if back in the area.

The atmosphere was fantastic. The staff were so caring and courteous. An excellent experience. We are looking forward to returning.

The staff were excellent and very friendly. The set menu in the restaurant is a little pricey but the food was very good. Both my wife and I enjoyed our stay but I don't recommend you read the ghost stories before your stay.

The bar area is more like an ageing social club and requires a refurbishment.

Bedrooms enormous. Decoration in keeping with castle. Staff friendly and very helpful.

Staff Location History

Location allows a base to visit further north

When we organise and pay for a short break we expect a standard that not only makes us feel special but in some way replicates or exceeds home comforts. Lack of enthusiasm by staff was just the start. The room was small, far too hot with no regulation, extremely shabby, lack of pressure from the shower and broken dials, and in dire need of decoration. Impossible to sleep well. No one to meet and greet at breakfast. The grounds, although late winter, are pretty poor. This is not a four star hotel and am bewildered as to how this was achieved. Decided not to stay for another night and left to find something better, which was not difficult. Historic, charm etc are words used to cover up what is an awful place. Have stayed in many 3, 4 & 5 star hotels throughout the world and rate this the worst by some margin. Never again and would advise against staying here.

Competence and attitude of staff both first rate. Hotel had a relaxed but professional ambience. Good breakfast also.

No real complaints,the location is superb. Too far and too uphill for walking to (in my case),but worth the additional taxi fares.
