Udny Arms HotelMain St, Aberdeen, AB41 6BL Newburgh (Show map) Good, Score from 78 reviews“The staff were extremely helpful and always prepared to go the extra mile to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The food was by far some of the best we have eaten in a hotel for many a long time and prices were sensible - they know they have a good product but they are not about to rip you off !! Presentation was better than a lot of hotels who charge considerably more for their product. ”

Overlooking the beautiful, peaceful Ythan Estuary, 10 miles north of Aberdeen, this charming 3-star hotel offers delicious food and a bistro that overlooks the estuary. At the Udny Arms Hotel you can either dine in the bistro, looking out over the water and the estuary’s wildlife or you can enjoy a tasty bar meal. There is an indefinable quality about this part of the world that guests notice as soon as they arrive and that brings them back to the hotel time and again. Credit for this unique atmosphere must go to the calming influence of the Ythan River, the changing moods of the Forvie Estuary, and the joy of sharing it all with eider duck and geese. Whatever the reason and whatever the season, it seems folk simply can't help but relax here, and for nearly one hundred years they have been coming here to do just that. Hotel Rooms: 26

Location, wanted to revisit area I had previously lived in. Had previous good memories of this hotel including my Sister's wedding some years ago. Sadly, if suggestions that is improving then had sunk very low. Very poor standards compared to past. Very slipshod refurbishment and a little attention to untidiness would have helped, with odd bits stored in corners of public rooms, and in entrance lobby. Currently very dark public rooms despite bizarre use of mirroring on bar walls. Restaurant closed without warning on website (and was closed next lunchtime for 'staff training' with no warning. Very basic pub menu and previously famous sticky toffee pud dreadful compared to old recipe. First room bath full of dust obviously not checked. Windows very rattly. Breakfast parsimonious with bland microwaved cooked option. Obviously naive to think that would match previous standards, albeit of 25 years ago.

This is a hotel in a lovely location we have known for many years. From being a renowned residential and gastronomic Mecca in the past it was sad to see it fall upon hard times. We had a bad experience there four years ago - however, a good financial deal encouraged us to try again. We were very impressed by the generous welcome offered upon our late arrival at the hotel and by the enthusiasm of the present owners. We will hope to stay there again.

The location was excellent- near to nice scenery but in the centre of the village. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and clean. They thoughtfully put a great selection of books in the room. The food was some of the best I've ever had! I'd thoroughly recomend eating in the restauraunt The shower took a very long time to warm up. The tv in my room only received three channels (although there is a lounge available with more channels if you'd like them)

Low price, convenient location, gteat food, friendly helpful staff. It's a terrible pity but the room was simply too cold. The one radiator was tiny and wholly inadequate to heat the large draughty room. It is more than 30 years since the last time I was forced to wear a hat in bed and I hope that I never have to again.

Close to the estuary and beach - good walking My room was small and in poor decorative condition. I had to use the single chair as a bed side table as well. dining hours were also limited.

The food was good The rooms were cold with no heating or very little heating on. This was demonstrated by having a drink in my room that had ice forming around the top. I was wasnt the only who thought the rooms were cold as at breakfast I over heard 2 other guests complaining how cold it was. I was up on business and had no access to wifi which i had requested and payed for. The rooms are very dated and certainly need up dating. The TV was a nice wall mounted flat screen but the picture quality was terrible. If the same attention was spent with the rooms as they have with the food it may be up to the standard of a good 3* hotel.................but at present falls a long way short

1. I received room with window directed straight in to kitchen ventilator outlet, so I hade room full of smell of fish, chips, onion and all other meals just served in hotel's restaurant. Noises of this device and of other kitchen instalations was as well hard "to accept". 2. Seling in bathroom terrible dirty after water flooding upstairs. 3. Hot water tap driping. 4. Very big television instaled to low with jib on the wall in the midle of room, so I hit some times with my shoulder on it walking between wardrobe and bathroom. 5. Main door to building very narrow. 6. No lift at home and acces to higher floors possible only with sheer stairs.

One of the the few business hotels in the Aberdeen area that does not charge inflated prices. Being on my own I chose to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised, the food and service was excellent. Much better than the usual chain hotels I stay at!

All of the staff there there were very helpful and friendly. The food and service was of a very high standard. Being able to walk a short distance to the beach from the hotel (15 minutes) and then to be able to watch the wildlife there, including the huge colony of seals was an added bonus for us. The location is quite but also handy for Aberdeen centre, only a short drive away.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. Dinner in the dining room was overpriced, but meals in the bar were excellent. The hotel is two old houses joined together. The rooms are fairly small. I was Ok , but my son, daughter-in-law and grandson had to share a room and were very cramped.

The hotel has been taken over by new people and it shows. This is a huge improvement! The menu is excellent. Keep up the good work! Finally we have a good restaurant and hotel in Newburgh again! On one occasion staff started to remove the breakfast items 10 minutes before closure. I guess it is a little glitch as otherwise they were very (!) helpful. Nothing else to complain about.

All staff were very freindly and helpful. The restaurant and bar areas are very pleasant and well decorated. The food was excellent, particularly breakfast, althought the evening meals are a little extravigantly presented. The bedrooms are looking 'tired' and althought the bathroom had been 'moderised' with a few tiles and a lick of paint a full remodelling would have paid dividends in the long run.

Friendly staff and decent price if you got a discount as we did. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and is also surrounded by building work on every side. It was noisy from that and from the main road outside. Also our room was in the attic and rather small : as the hotel was fairly empty there were better rooms available but we were not offered these. The restaurant was ridiculously expensive with little choice for vegetarians so we simply ate elsewhere and used Udny as a b and B.
