it was cold in room
clean & spacious rooms friendly atmoshere ample parking olde worlde surroundings There is a lot to like about this place but felt I went at the wrong time. All problems were solved thankyou.
poor facilities.. no pool, restaurant or bar open as advertised. Chaos at breakfast
Nice original country guest house that had done the best with what it has. Excellent value for money and really friendly staff. Good quality breakfast.
We were out of season visiting at Christmas time and staff were thinking on the ground. Couldn't get through to anyone when having difficulty finding the hotel. Shame the pool is put out of use through winter. A bar or communal tv room would be nice
The swimming pool was nice although o bit dirty
The breakfast was dreadful, the whole building was absolutely freezing and all of the doors and door frames in the place were broken where forced entry had occurred. It also smelt like an old peoples home
Arrived to cold room very cold didnt take hats and coats off for 2 hours no bar or dining avilable? 4 stars?
My god some people moan about everything don't they. I've read the reviews on this place and I'm sorry but your critical insight has completely missed the charm of this wonderful hotel! I paid the out of season rate (£45) and I feel I've had more than my monies worth. The room was warm, the sheets clean and everything smelt fresh. The breakfast in the morning was served quickly and everyone was attended to in a timely fashion. Yes it's a bit rough around the edges but this is the character that missing from most places! Enjoy its quirks, this truly is what a B and B is all about.
Nothing. Because at the age of 27 I can sort most problems myself without having to complain.
Nice room and comfy bed.
Room not warm when we booked in at 2pm It warmed up later.
We stayed at the Underwood for 1 night and after reading some of the reviews, in my opinion they are not justified. we had a lovely room plenty of space and clean and tidy. I slept all night too so bed must have been comfy. I used the Internet no problems there. the staff were very good and obliging and breakfast was lovely and plenty of it. i would definitely use this hotel again.
Huge bedroom and great breakfast
Only there for one night
Let me think ....nothing.
I don't really like in this hotel anything, swimig pool was closed on opening hours, food not good taste, apartments mold smell,no wifi in apartments at all!
An unpolished diamond, a period property that still retains the charm of the Downton Abbey era.
Eating breakfast surrounded by dirty uncleared tables - not a single one was cleared, surely this isn't rocket science - even if its the 1st day for the non-English speaking waitress (at least we could pinch the toast & milk that was missing from ours). It's gone very downhill lately, but we'll still give it another go, so I hope they put the effort in & improve.
Friendly and helpful staff
Shower -poor. Very poor flow
We made a last minute trip to Millom and booked this hotel through Booking.com, not knowing anything about the area. We were expecting something far less for the money. The man who met us was very helpful and pleasant. The room was clean and comfortable. The views from the window are lovely. Would love to have had the time to use the swimming pool. A beautiful old House.
Rooms and beds were very nice. Nice bar but no beer.
We arrived at the hotel, walked in and couldn't find any staff. Rang the door bell and phoned several times and waited for half an hour. Eventually asked at a cottage opposite and we were able to sign in. Nice breakfast apart from the cold toast, service could have been a bit more confident.
No facility to pay by card.no change when paid by cash Poor quality breakfast. Bacon and mushrooms not up to the mark.
Nice place, friendly staff,
Nice quiet location in large grounds with a pool.
Bedroom not cleaned for the duration of our 3 day stay. The place was ran by teenage girls who didn't seem to know what to do. Shower facilities broken in the pool area. Smell of dog and cigarettes in the bedroom. Smell of sewage outside the cottage. I won't be going back.
bedroom location real fire bar
no evening meal some cold breakfast items dead flies on windowsill in bedroom
We arrived quite late, but they were helpful and understanding. Room was big and comfortable. Nice country location. Breakfast was very good, served to you at table which is nice, much prefer this to most help yourself style hotels.
Deceitful Hotel manangement - we asked to book a table in the restaurant before we came & were not told that the restaurant (& pool)would be closed throughout our stay. Bar was open but no chilled drinks or ice. Room was not ready on arrival & we were left to make up the beds Room was scruffy - missing tiles in bathroom, broken furniture, etc. Children's play area was half constructed & a danger to anyone playing on it. Building materials lying around. No refund given yet - despite total lack of facilities.
Chilled out atmosphere
Beautiful House (has seen better days) has great potential.
After waiting in the entrance for at least 5 mins (after ringing the bell) we were seen by a young lad who then walked straight past without asking if he could help us. when he came back he then asked if we were wanting to check in then returned to the kitchen to get someone to help us to which a young girl (with attitude) told him to do it himself and its not hard to do, take our names and show us to our room. We gave our names at a desk (that has seen better days) with booking papers and letters spread all over it to then find out the keys to our room had gone missing and the door was locked. After waiting another 5 minutes the manager? came out and found us another room to stay in, which to be fair was a lovely room apart from the fact we had booked self catering and brought food for the weekend to find there was no fridge in the room (there was advertised) also the pool was closed for winter (heated indoor pool advertised), there were going to be no evening meals that night and also wifi didnt work anywhere other than the entrance.. within an hour of arriving at the hotel i recieved a phone call saying my son was ill and i had to go and get him. As i was in a panic my partner went to speak to the manager to explain that we couldnt stay due to unforseen circumstances and we would have to leave. He was then asked are you sure he is ill or is it something to do with the hotel? (not the best time to be saying things like that!) we had to pay for one night for the cancellation fee, that i wouldnt be too bothered about if the hotel was as advertised. Overall not the best experiance especially after the price we paid for being there an hour!
One of the rooms we had was nice and big with a lovely view
Customer service level extremely poor, we had issues with the breakfast, we waited over an hour and then it turned out they didn't have most ingredients so we paid £7 a head for 1 egg on toast. Complaints were ignored, on check out no manager or owner to be found and all subsequent calls and emails ignored. Very poor customer service. If you stay here just book a room only and go out to eat your breakfast. There's a lovely bakery in a town nearby, avoid Millom though.
Lovely situation. Floral display and gardens excellent Staff very friendly
Windows in our room did not fully close and lock. Hot water supply erratic
