Room and bed were both large and comfortable. Breakfast was good.
The room at the front was noisy. The hotel is in takeaway central and there is noise until 04.00. Public spaces are faded with music playing loudly all the time on an endless loop. Needs a lot of money spending on it.
Location - couldn't be in a more handy location for CITY centre and was quiet. Good value
Given the quality if the location I was surprised at how dated the rooms and common areas were. The hotel is in need of serous capital investment to bring it up to scratch.
Parking is expensive unnecessarily for residents, service at breakfast was poor, and the beds are old and sagging in the middle - not my cup of tea!
We had a four poster bed and looked out over Parker's Piece. Breakfast was Very good.
There was no English staf in the restaurant. It is not easy to make yourself clear to them
The old furnishings make this hotel cozy and warm with great views of Parkers Piece. The rooms are comfy and just what you need for a long weekend, clean, good size. Very short stroll to the centre and good restaurants down from the hotel.
The bathroom was on the small side but nothing to complain about.
I liked the fact that the hotel retained some historical structure. It was really beautiful.
From the time i checked in the hotel the staff were friendly and helpful, the lift may be old model but worked each time i used it during the 3 days i stayed there, my room was spotlessly clean when i got back to it , clean linen , bathroom and plus there was iron , coffee , tea provided .
Excellent location.great breakfast plenty of parking space
The rooms need refurbishing. The Aircon was broken
The location, the staff, the parking.
The hotel needs a revamp. The rooms are dated and require upgrading. I got a nice room but the above applies.
Central location , helpful staff, large rooms, good breakfast.
Noisy room extractor fans from kitchen, till 10 at night and starting up again at 5
Good location, big bed
Too noisy at night from the park, too warm even if the heaters were off and outside was chilly, sleepless night... Room too old with thin walls.
The location and parking were the only reasons we booked this hotel. However, it is clean and fairly comfortable, the breakfast is good and the reception staff pleasant and helpful.
Creaky, stuffy and outdated. We stayed here in 1989 (!) - it wasn't great then and has not improved. For example, there is a tatty cabinet in the bar for the TV which has dirty marks on it. Extraordinary!
View and bed
Bath a bit old. Slight problems after full English breakfast.
Décor very tired, rooms could do with being refurbished
Other than that very average. Ordered room service two hours before the last ordering time, they rung back and said actually not serving food..... Poor service. For me "it done the job".
Noise from nightlife outside building
no aircondition in the room
the reception area is very welcoming
our visit was end of july during the very hot spell. the air conditioning in the whole hotel was not working. the restaurant closed on sunday evenings. views not as good as advertised. bathrooms very dated
University Arms Hotel is absolutely amazing!! Really really nice, clean and in a perfect position!!
The windows couldn't open more than a few centimeters and the air condition did not work. A letter telling that the ac does not work is not enough!
Location, near the city Nice room Nice bar
horrendous noise from young people in the park, did not get any sleep for 2 nights as our room was 2nd floor, park view. breakfast disaster - did not understand the meaning of toast
Was close to town centre. Wifi was good
Parking fee No aircon/very hot Cockroach in toilet Noise. Fire alarm kept going off. Car park very tight
Our spacious double room was situated on the 1st floor in the corner which meant two sets of windows so lots of light pouring in which we loved. We also had the view of the park. The bed, the pillows and the duvet were supercomfy which ensured a good night sleep. Coffee, tea and biscuits selection spot on. The bathroom was fairly newly renovated, good water pressure. Yummy yummy breakfast. Perfect location and beautiful hotel, wish we could've stayed longer than just one night.
It's not the hotel's fault but someone pulled the fire alarm around 11.30pm so we had to evacuate. there was no guidance so if there was an actual fire, not sure how they would deal with it.
Old decor but very comfortable and enjoyable stay, lovely bar and dining room, would stay again.
Paying extra to park the car at the hotel
