Fabulous,
Score from 213 reviews
“ The staff was not only friendly, they went out of their way to make you feel at home. They were also very helpful about where to go and what to see. The breakfast was fantastic. Much better that what we thought it would be! The room was new, clean and bright. Everything has been redone and we loved it. We were in the 'classic mini' room, which is the smallest and it still was comfortable and cozy. ”

lovely room with both modern and period features extremely pleasant and helpful staff perfectly situated in the centre of the city, but in a quiet position, within easy walking distance of everything we wanted to see in Oxford stairs down to breakfast room were rather steep

Friendly staff ; breakfast good although it appeared that cooked breakfasts are an extra charge ; room small but new and clean with free mini bar ( soft drinks ). Our room appeared to be one of the smallest but it was still comfortable and cosy with a rain shower in the bathroom. Did not see a lift ; as it is an old building some people might find the steep staircases daunting , in particular the very steep stairs to the basement breakfast/ dining room.

Central, near shops, comfortable room Decent enough hotel in a very central, back street just off the main shopping area. Rooms acceptable with tea/coffee, safe, large tv, iron and a complimentary fridge - although it only contained two cans of coke, two bottles of water and a Kit Kat !! Very good en suite bathroom. The only thing that would put me off staying here again is that it is vastly overpriced for its standard at £159 per night. The reception is badly organised in that it comprises a girl sitting in an armchair in the sitting room with a laptop !! Thats it ! They have not thought through the "little extras" they boast about. For example - they charge £159 per night yet charge you 60p for your morning paper ! Breakfast is not a buffet and served portions not very big + the restaurant is cramped. I have stayed in a lot worse hotels but I have also experienced much better value for money

Cozy hotel, good bathroom, nice breakfast. Parking problems - impossible to get to the hotel by car!!! You should leave your car on the parking and walk 5 minutes to the hotel with luggage. Wrong description of the room on Booking.com: no garden in the suite, queen size-bed intstead of king-size!!! Impossible to sleep - very noisy from the street! Our friends stayed in Deluxe room with garden view and king-size bed for lower price and had better impression.

Great hotel! Perfect location in the old town center, very friendly staff, nice rooms with beautiful design and all the necessary features including media hub & refridgerator, nice bathroom. We enjoyed breakfast with fresh fruit & bakery. And also they provide free snacks & drinks in the minibar which is very nice! Parking was not available so we had to look for paid parking which was not very convenient as you need to pre-pay and then come back and pay more if needed. Also it was not very clear how to drive to the hotel so we occasioanlly broke the traffic rules :/

Great location, beautifully decorated (with windows that open) with lovely touches such as White Company toiletries and compimentary soft drinks etc. Staff really welcoming and helpful. It was lovely to sit outside on the small terrace for a drink. Nothing. Small area for improvement would be breakfast, some homemade muesli/granola with yogurt and large bowl fresh fruit salad would compliment the excellent cooked options.

Extremely comfortable bed, excellent service and a very good breakfast. Nice decor and the location is marvellous with the Oxford Union just across the street and Cornmarket at the end of the street. Maybe a slightly earlier check in time but this really is only a minor point and as the hotel held my luggage for me it didnt hamper my enjoyment of my first day at all.

Excellent central location, room size, layout and decor. Friendly and helpful staff. Good choice at breakfast and good quality food. Weird reception arrangement and not being able to settle bill on day prior to departure, not helpful for an early start. Early morning noise from bin lorries.

The complimentary soft drinks and snacks in the mini bar was a neat touch. Room well designed and comfortable. Breakfast very nice and their restaurant is also very good. Location very handy for all the sites. Room very well appointed generally and compared to prices in Oxford reasonably priced too not much of a view from my window, but that`s nitpicking!

Spotlessly clean room (22); very central location; friendly, efficient staff; free WiFi; free tea and coffee; good breakfast. View over tatty rear area; noise from extractor fan on nearby roof (solved by sleeping with earplugs). Price is fair by Oxford standards, but still high. I'd happily do without the inclusive breakfast ad "free" minibar to save £15.

The location was perfect with access to all the shops, museums, bars and restaurants. The hotel had a warm, friendly feel and the room we had was tucked away so lovely and peaceful. The restaurant although lovely, was on the small side which was a little cramped and warm when busy.

Very helpful staff. Beautiful decor and thoughtful arrangements to make the stay as comfortable as possible. The breakfast was fantastic - excellent quality and choice. Lack of carparking is a major issue - particularly in Oxford. Friends had hoped to join me for an evening meal but as they were unable to find a parking location, had to cancel. Also, a hairdryer in the room would be useful.

We liked everything about our stay at Vanbrugh House Hotel, but the staff were definitely the heroes here. The reception personnel, the restaurant service staff, and even the management folks we met were all 5-STAR!!!! If we had to offer an issue that bothered us, it seemed to be HOT everywhere we went in the hotel. It may have been spoilt American expectations or just the fact that the weather was transitioning fm Winter.
