Just 1700 ft from Torquay Seafront, Derwent Hotel is part of an impressive resort with a luxury spa, nightly entertainment and family-friendly accommodations. There is also a gym and fitness center.
Score from 519 reviews Very good
The family-run Cavendish Hotel is well-placed in the center of the coastal resort town of Torquay. It offers guests indoor and outdoor pools, a game room, a sauna and regular evening entertainment.

The Albaston is a detached Victorian house offering high-quality guest accommodation between the main town centre, the historic St Marychurch, and the beaches of Babbacombe.

Set in an 1850’s detached Victorian building, The Cimon features a large patio garden, a children’s playroom and a 30-foot outdoor swimming pool.
Score from 190 reviews Excellent
Love the swimming pool Love the food Love the range of activities to do (even when it rained every day)
Beds a bit hard for me and when your partner turns over you feel it across the whole bed. Some silly slip ups in the restaurant-when you pre-order your wine you expect it to be opened when you get your food (this happened twice in four nights) Two staff in the games room who didn't really give a damn (only on one night). Two different ones the next day who were much better. Queues in the Bistro to order food.
friendly staff, walking distance to amenities.great breakfast.
hotel requires up-dating.
The on site facilities were very good. Excellent position 5 mins walk to seafront. Good parking facilities.
Bathroom in need of updating.
facilities ,food were excellent as was the location
the bed was too hard as was the pillow. Only one provided . Usually best to have one foam and one feather then a person can choose.
very friendly and helpful staff
probably not for a business traveller :-)
Food and staff very good, location excellent with amenities outside the door! Indoor and outdoor pools, full indoor bowls centre and falconry in the gardens.
entertainment needs improving a little but good effort.
Excellent 25 metre indoor warm swimming pool. The restaurant staff were excellent, very attentive and smartly dressed. Lots to do. Cater for all ages. e.g. All forms of dancing, 10 pin bowling, snooker, evening entertainment. Close to the town. Food was good. Plenty of TC channels if you wanted to stay in the room. Room kept clean and tidy - with coffee, tea and biscuits refilled every day. Our first time but will certainly go again.
The family room had only a view of the roof of either the dining room or conservatory so you could not see what the weather was like. Room itself was very clean and tidy but needs some updating.
I liked almost everything about this lovely hotel, so much going on, lovely lounges for relaxing, beautiful inside pool and lovely outside pool with comfortable beds. Ballrooms with proper wooden floors and beautiful surroundings, room just right with easy to use shower, plenty of mirrors, great lighting in bathroom for make-up etc. staff very friendly, couldn't do enough for us, just perfect.
We didn't like the fact the safe was on the floor, very difficult to get at, would be better placed on a shelf, had to get on hands and knees to operate it. Didn't like that the tables were so close together in the restaurant at breakfast time, would have liked more privacy.
Pools are very good if you have young kids
The food was not up to standard and breakfast was not very hot on both days
Indoor swimming pools, bowls green and Aztec centre.
Nothing springs to mind we would definiately use this hotel again.
The easy access to all the facilities in the other hotels in the chain. Especially the spa etc which we used as a treat for our anniversary. The friendliness/helpfulness of the staff. Also very surprised booked a double ended up having a family room with a sea view which was very much appreciated.
The bar which supplied the restaurant for drinks could have stayed open later.
seaview room..cleanliness..relaxed atmosphere
Value for money, lots for the family to do in the hotel and the area. Hotel lots of places to eat and drink.
Did not like being near the fire exit, where the smokers would go, as the door kept banging during the night and early hours of the morning disturbing our sleep.
loved the staff and the facilities were brilliant! Loads to do to suit each person
Good location. Spacious rooms.
Not much to say
Being in Torquay
Unclean bedroom on arrival ,dirty used towels ,pubs in used soap, someone else's clothes in wardrobe, uncomfortable bed, steam room smelt of sweaty socks ,no toilet roll in changing room for 16 hrs allowing child to be sick in pool and not clearing or cleaning pool and not replying to complaint and email to hotel shocking!!
Excellent staff - very helpful and efficient. Lots to do - the dancing was a bonus. Close to the seafront.
Restaurant closes at 8pm. Car parking was tight. Some bits of the hotel need redecorating/new carpets.
Couldn't find my way around and staff were not helpful. Hotel was noisy until late.
everything !!!! staff fantastic
Large bedroom, close to centre.
Beds rock hard son slept on floor after first night, could do with abit of updating.
a spacious and comfortable friendly hotel in a good central position for everything
It is perched half way up a hill but torquay is a very hilly place. My room was a bit noisy because it was where they delivered and emptied the bins every morning
clean and spacious room, friendly staff, excellent facilities.
room adjacent to noisy corridor
Location, Friendly Staff at reception and Staff serving breakfast. Swimming pool.
Mattresses are old and room can be too hot to sleep at night during the the summer.
Facilities, pool etc. great entertainment for children. Staff were very helpful. Couldn't fault them for helpfulness.
Stayed in 3 rooms as moved from first room due to lift noise. Some rooms needed updating. Very hot so ok if not really warm outside. Didn't get told what to do at breakfast so felt a bit lost. One sarcastic comment about my daughter not wearing shoes, I agreed and had her shoes with me but its not a four star establishment!
The restaurant staff couldn't speak English!
