Situated in Detling village, 3 miles from Maidstone, this charming bed and breakfast keeps its own pigs and chickens.
Score from 30 reviews Exceptional
As a pre-13th birthday present surprise for our eldest son, I booked this based upon reviews. And it lived up to the reviews. Lots of parking, great swimming pool and gym, friendly staff and a "vibe" in the reception area. Back at the room it was peaceful. ROOM - fine. Clean, beds comfortable, facilities very good. SWIMMING POOL - great for children and me for lane swimming. GYM - perfect for me as a non-cardio person. Decent rowers, bench press, pull-ups / chin-up bar, decent dumbbells (beyond 30kg). Squat rack fine. Decent range of equipment / machines. BREAKFAST - great.
Alas we couldn't book into the restaurant(s) due to private parties. We could have ordered room service though . We didn't know until we arrived and the staff were very apologetic. They couldn't contact us as booking.com did not pass our details on. So we went to a local pub (The Bull) which was okay. All in all, not a problem!
Nice pool and leisure area if a little tired. Room comfortable enough and overall reasonable value.
Pool area and changing rooms a bit tired and scruffy. Limited food choice in bar - can't get a simple sandwich. WiFi very slow.
Clean, average room. Leisure facilities excellent.
Informed on arrival that we could not dine in their Restaurant due to 3 Christmas Parties. Said they had e mailed all guests. But I had not received any notification, which was bad. Had to go out in cold to get dinner.
The buffet breakfast is very good.
When i checked in i was told that due to private parties the bar and restaurants were closed off to me and only a small area of seating was available in lobby. Room service didn't answer telephone so i had to come down to reception to place order.
I arrived at 9.45pm, car park full and disco music heard. reception and outside were lots of foul mouthed drunks. Told restaurant and bar closed for private party. I would have to have room service in lobby, and drinks from function bar, but take out to lobby. Cold, noisy and drunks about. I did not stay and asked them to find an alternative hotel, which treated me properly. Hotel has not bothered to come back to me despite emailing the sales manager. Guests beware of the Christmas party £ takes priority
When we arrived was then told all the restaurants was closed and so was the pub !!!!! As we was surprising friends in the pub this was a big let down, would help if they pr warned customers of this before they book.
The staff were exceptional, obviously good customer orientated training had been in place
Could not find fault with anything which is very refreshing in this day and age
Starbucks Breakfast Location Another hotel next door that I will use in future
Noise Noise Noise Noise No sleep Lack of sound proofing Lack of control Night club Music Noise Banging Shouting Lack of sleep
The hotel has a very relaxing atmosphere the staff are very friendly
Nothing to dislike
The swimming pool and general facilities are good
The Wifi speed is poor - enough for basic we browsing, but not for remote working.
The bed was very comfy and the room a good size. The atmosphere and food in the bar in the evening was good.
We had to wait around 10 minutes to be seated for the breakfast, and then realised it was very limited. We were told this was because it was after 10 - however had we been seated sooner this wouldn't be the case, and also this should be explained; limited breakfast after 10am
Staff & facilities were good, although thi was an overnight stay for business. Rooms were nice & quite, which is a must for me
Local road infrastructure is very poor, adding a lot of time on to the journey. Not the Hotels fault but is a fact
The pool was lovely and big with the largest and best equipped changing facilities. There were tanning facilities, a steam room and a jacuzzi.
This was our 2nd 5 day stay at the hotel in 3 months. On both visits the staff have been great. Working for a national company, I have stayed in numerous hotels over the years any this is by far the best with regard to the facilities and the friendly staff.
Prompt pleasant check in. Polite staff in reception and leisure area. A la carte restaurant and menu very nice.
Wasn't told to book in restaurant when booking in at reception so had long wait for a table
Big pool On site Starbucks
The bar was open to general public
That there is a pub within hotel serving food
There was a large crack in the bathroom basin
Generally good, leisure pool and gym excellent.
Restaurent Poor information on what food is available and at what times. Hence did not use.
Breakfast was great, staff very pleasant, hotel clean and well-located, especially as a stop-off
The young man on reception could not have been more pleasant and helpful
The waitress told us the cream brûlée was hot and it was cold
Comfy bed. That's it. I paid for a superior room and got nothing better than an average travel lodge room !!! Not happy..
Dirty, stained carpets. Poor wifi. The carpets were so dirty I didn't take my shoes off in case I got my socks dirty. The carpet were held down in places with gaffa tape, not what I expected. I would not stay here again, on par with an average travel lodge.
The pool and saunas were lovely, the room comfortable and warm.
Our room was above the bar so got quite noisy late in the evening. Breakfast was not served until 8 am on a Sunday which for a family with a small child was a little late.
Second time ive stayed here great place to stay good for families too x
Food menu in restaurant there could have been more choice very basic
Gym was good but frustratingly on,y opened at 8am on a Saturday - I stayed there for a conference which started at 9:15 so I had to choose exercise over breakfast
No TV remote and when requested one - poor response and then was it didn't work Luke warm water in the evening Rubbish in the room on the floor and sides and the room had not been dusted
The proximity of the hotel to the motorway for our visit to the Eurotunnel is excellent.
On this visit which has been one of many previously we found that there was no hot water for a bath/shower.Despite all the efforts of the Duty Manager who was excellent and a move to another room nextdoor - we still had the same problems and the room was cold.So after a long drive and wanting a relaxing bath and hair wash - this was not possible. We were given £10 of vouchers to spend in the restaurant and my husband had to send his chips back and his steak wasn't terribly warm.My meal was o.k,. but not as hot as it could have been.Very disappointed. We felt that £10 was a bit of an insult for the lack of amenities.
