The staff were particularly attentive, helpful and friendly. My work entails many nights away from home and impersonal service can lead to real disappointment. This hotel has, in my opinion, some of the friencliest and most helpful staff members I have had the pleasure to meet in the last few years. Non of the impersonal, conveyor belt treatment as dealt out by the global Hotel groups, a real, genuine personal service. Need to keep the lounge bar open for residents rather than having to search for staff if you require refreshments.

We know the Walnut Tree very well and stay there twice a year, usually. It is small, comfortable and friendly. The Manager knows us and makes a point of greeting us on arrival. Many staff have been there for a long time and it is relaxing to meet so many friendly faces. It has the facilities to host quite large events - weddings and conferences - but even when busy we have never felt pushed to one side. This time the hotel was quiet so we had long chats with several of the staff. One small complaint we had regarding the shower in our bathroom was dealt with immediately. It is always possible to find fault if you try hard enough. I do feel, however, that the corridor lights would be better on automatic switching since it can be trying for some elderly people to try to locate switches in the half-light. Of course, once you know where they are it ceases to be a problem! Alternatively, reception staff should include this in their general duties.

(1) Unfriendly staff (2) This hotel is excessively priced. £89 B&B is an absolute rip off on a Tuesday night (3) Facilities are outdated - The hotel like a throw back in time to the 1980's (4) Bed linen was scarce - woke up feeling cold during the night. (5) had a coffee before leaving hotel, - charged £3.50 for a filter coffee which was stale and tasted horrible.Rip off (6) A terrible experience - will never go back there

The room was large and the breakfast was good. We were going to a wedding opposite so for us it was a perfect location. The decor was interesting and the bathroom looked very tired. Far too expensive for a country side Hotel. I wouldn't stay there again as it is not worth the price.

This was a return visit, and the booking was first rate, and the Hotel just as we remembered previously, if somewhat more expensive! Unfortunately we had thought all rooms were on the ground floor, having stayed several times previously, but this time we were upstairs which was difficult for my wife with a fairly recent broken leg. However this was not a fault of the booking or the Hotel.

We were stayng there for 2 nights because we were attending a wedding close by on the Saturday. We had good food and the service we had from the staff, including chambermaids, was excellent. We felt that the front of the Hotel (at ground level) and car park could be tidied up. Our room, which was not in the main part of the hotel, could do with some updating, although it was clean. .

Arrived on bikes, soaking wet. Staff were so helpful providing us with a secure place under cover to lock our bikes, and dry our outer clothing. Food menu was good. Liked the rooms which was bigger than many hotel rooms.

Delicious meal with attentive service. Big drinks choice. Under priced (but don't change). Everything you'd want from the best English breakfast. Cool checkout. Fabulous!” David, Bolton |
