I did not really like anything in particular apart from the bar food Fish & Chips which was as good as any Whitby or coastal offerings. I was informed by the Bar Staff that my room was dismal and not like the main building so that made me feel really great and valued - "Not" Considering there were ony 14 guests staying they could have given me an upgrade or better room. The Pemier Inn has more comfort and welcoming. The room I stayed in 14 is not in the main building, but an Annexe which was cold, misreable and more like something in the stable block or servants quarters. I felt like the poor relation. The bathroom was freezing and in a poor condition. The valance, curtains, pillows & cushions were dirty. The bedside ornament was damaged and dusty as was the tissue box. I felt distinctly uncomfortable. The place was deserted only myself at breakfast. Wifi did not work either. Disappointing Experience.

The Hotel staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Didn't like the extension (West Wing). It was not at all in keeping with the Hotel. Looked like a village hall built onto the Castle.

The staff were very friendly. Our room was beautiful - especially the windows. The food wasn't as good as expected. My husband's steak had to be returned, too tough no flavour. Only limited alternatives were available.

The castle was great and fab scenery! The bathroom had mould in it which is bad for your health! The room menu for the resturant was out of date!

Friendliness I was very disappointed to be charged £25.90 for two "Continental breafasts", the same as "Full breakfasts" ,and on questioning this to be to be told " that is how we catch you."jokingly or not.

I was very disappointed with the hotel. It looked very tired and and standard of furnishings and fittings was poor. My bed was clean but the carpets were old and frayed, the bathroom was tiny and the heating system noisy. Although Wifi was supposedly available throughout the hotel. I could not connect in the 3 bedrooms I tried and I had to work in the lounge which was not satisfactory for me or other guests. I had dinner in the Farmer's Bar. The beer was sour and had to be sent back. My steak sandwich was tough. I will not stay there again.

The hotel looked fabulous as you drove up We were placed in the annex I think where the rooms were definitely snug. Also I do believe some of the areas are in need of updating, particularly the stair carpets. We did not have tea in our room either, only coffee which my husband does not drink.

Great to stay in the grounds of such a fantastic castle. Ideally situated just of a1/m1 and choice of restaurant or bar food catering for all tastes. Staff were very polite and always willing to help. We stayed in the West Wing of the castle where the rooms need some attention (peeling wallpaper, mould in bathrooms, dirty carpets) but I guess this reflects the price we paid.

The room with the four poster bed was great with a decent size en suite bathroom. The building itself was very nice in a great location,we visited the nearby Raby castle and went upto Durham. The staff were nice and helpfull. Apart from a few minor gripes we both enjoyed our visit. The condition of the room wasnt great with damp on the ceiling, and numerous cobwebs behind the tv and dressing table. The drinks are quite expensive at nearly 10 pounds for a wine and a pint of cider...... But this unfortunatley is becoming the norm. There wasnt much of a drinking area to watch the footy ( romantic weekend or not ),as most areas were set up to eat.

Great wedding venue and the rooms were very smart and clean. I was pleased a change of room type was possible only the day before I was due to arrive. (though I had to phone booking.com in the end as the website wouldn't let me for some reason) Minor thing - when you turn on the sink tap, the water jets out, splashes into the sink and then fires into your stomach/ the floor. It takes great skill to pull up the tap just enough to avoid this. Maybe the pressure could be turned down or conventional taps put in? (This was room 3 west wing). Also - if the wedding starts at 2pm, it'd be good if we could check in earlier - perhaps giving priority to rooms to be occupied by wedding guests. Sorry to moan - just giving constructive feedback.

I booked the room well in advance on going to a friends wedding, was very disappointed that we were above the kitchen and bottle bank, also asked for a double room and got a twin, I do know that I could have got a twin but thought due to me booking it so far in advance I would have got a double and a decent location, considering my friend only booked the day before and got a view from the front of the castle.

Our visit was a birthday pressie for my husband. We stayed in the king james suite - where this king stayed on his way to london for his coronation. We loved the history of it all. Room was huge and had fabulous views. Staff were really nice. We had a bar meal on the night which was lovely & fresh! And my husband loved the full breakfast the next morning. Just be careful if you're wanting to book the king james suite. A picture of it is.included with the offers on the suites for £160/£170 which I thought was great! I asked the hotel if we could have this room but they rang and told me this room was not included in the offer and it cost £245. I DID EMAIL TO SAY I THOUGHT THIS WAS MISLEADING & A BIT UNFAIR

Food in the restaurant was fantastic. Castle and grounds were absolutely gorgeous! Room was very small, bathroom even smaller and we struggled to get hot water from the shower.. No water out of the hot tap at all the next morning. Bed was very uncomfortable! However, if you paid for a good room I think you would have a pleasant stay!

Staff were very pleasant. Surroundings are very good. Castle is historic and very interesting. But ....... Some very basic things were faulty. Mainly in the plumbing and heating department. In the morning the shower did not have any hot water ( probably the most basic need of b and b ). The receptionists advice to try having a bath did not work as there was only an inch of hot water before it ran out. The toilet roll holder and soap dish were hanging off the wall. The room had a dressing table but no chair or stool to sit on. The breakfast was supposed to run until 09.30 but when we arrived at 09.20 it was being cleared away. Breakfast choice was less and not as good as a Premier Travel Inn.
