We stayed overnight on our way down to Cornwall. The hotel was excellent and very conveniently located in the centre of Tavistock, with its own car park. The room was enormous and very well equipped and had obviously been recently refurbished. The cooked breakfast was very nice. The receptionist (Hayley) was extremely helpful when on arrival we discovered a nail in one of our tyres. We asked if she knew of a local tyre centre, and she phoned a local company to find out if it was open and gave us directions. In fact all the staff were very polite and friendly.

Warm welcome from the ladies in reception who even offered to carry our cases up to our top floor bedroom, when we realised, because it is a listed building, there are no lifts! Kept us fit climbing the stairs after a few days. The room was delightful with a dual aspect across to the church and the side of the hotel and we heard very little noise. The bed was extremly comfortable with fresh white sheets, plenty of pillows and silk throw and cushions. We appreciated the two tub chairs and small table making the room more like a cosy suite. Breakfast and bar food provided a good and reasonably priced choice. The location was excellent for retail therapy and frequent buses and taxis, with the mediaeval market just across the road. Prints and paintings on the wall gave a country house feel to this delightful hotel We would highly recommend the Bedford to those who enjoy a relaxed stay in the lovely town of Tavistock. Any request was quickly provided. We did think the bath would be safer if a handrail had been part of the suite, but a safety mat was produced on request.

Good location, imposing presence in main town square. Friendly and helpful staff, good parking and good breakfast. Bar lunches excellent. Traditional welcome. Housekeeping staff very polite. A little bit shop-worn. It could do with a spruce-up. No lift.

The location of the Bedford for exploring the town of Tavistock and the surrounding area was excellent. The food was of a high quality and standard as was the service especially at breakfast time. The staff acted promptly with any issues or requests and made the over all stay very enjoyable. Would certainly stay there again. The room we had over looked the church at the front of the hotel, because of the single glazing (i presume because it is a listed building and they don't allow double glazing) the noise from the traffic out side late at night and early in the morning was a bit inconvenient and disturbed our sleep. If they were allowed to install secondary double glazing this would be a vast improvement.

Very nice staff, and food. It looks very shabby - the chairs in my room were very worn, and I dislike sheets and blankets. I also think that eiderdowns are unhygienic. It's quite dark, and needs a freshen-up thorughout.

I had not stayed before although I know the area well. Friends and family have stayed. I needed comfort and relaxation on a short break and this hotel together with Tavistock the moors and a trip to shop in Plymouth provided this.

TWO dogs welcome really made it for us! We were so pleased to find such a hotel. The deal that meant we could have our teenager in a double room at half the price made us feel very good too. Parking really good too and close to the rooms - great for just fetching dogs in at bedtime. Locality - easy access for early & late dog walking Bedside lights completly useless for reading in bed.

Excellent hotel, excellent food, excellent staff. The location was perfect, right in the centre of Tavistock, with a high class feel to everything. We were visiting friends right on the south coast and wanted to break our journey. Thank you it was lovely.

We joined a group of friends for a Murder Mystery Evening with dinner. The Hotel is in a good location for exploring this small market town. The rooms are comfortable to very comfortable. Our Saturday night room was a small double, comfortable and well appointed, for our second night stay, we were offered and accepted an upgrade to a four poster room, very comfortable with nice bathroom and a larger tv, convenient for a night in due to really bad weather! Breakfasts were excellent and well presented. Staff were very helpful. In all a very enjoyable two nights.

the staff were courteous and attentive, the food was superb, the beds were comfortable, the rooms well equipped and maintained, bathrooms sparkling clean, a great feeling of comfort in all areas of the hotel difficult access for my elderly mother - steep fire escape stairs at rear and sloped walk around to front then stairs - the ramp access door which was closest to the carpark was locked.

The friendly and efficient staff. The location and car park. The room size and decoration. The pleasant mix of ancient and modern. The cooked to order breakfasts. The pillows. Some nights the room was too hot despite the radiator being turned off. Lack of Wi-fi internet coverage.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, even the chamber persons spoke to you. The atmosphere was one of quiet and relaxtion, plenty of places to sit and read. The breakfast room was laid out nicely and there was plenty to eat. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the bathroom a nice size. I would definitley stay there again and reccommend this hotel highly
