The imposing stone exterior, nestled in fields of contented sheep and extending down to the lake, clothes an interior where tranquility rules. Sir Nic, the immensely hospitable and pleasantly irreverent manager, greeted us and thereafter did everything possible to make our stay a memorable one. The dining room, with floor to ceiling windows framing Coniston's famous Old Man in all of its changing moods,is quite simply spectacular. We stayed three nights and could easily have extended to three weeks.

The hotel has an excellent location with beautiful scenery all around. The staff were helpful, comfort and food were both good. On one night there was a wedding reception at the hotel and the wedding guests took over the lounge completely and seemed to take priority over the normal hotel guests. This resulted in dinner being served later than we had booked for..

The hotel was beautifully situated on the bank of lake coniston. A good base from which to explore nearby places like Tarn Hows and Grizedale Forest. Nice sized rooms. Pleasant and polite helpful staff. Meals were a little expensive and our only really disappointment was that our bed was too firm and a bit uncomfortable for us.

The location was perfect as a base for walking around Coniston.or short drive to Grizedale Forest. We didn't have opportunity to experience ferry but that is an added benefit of location. Stunning view for breakfast. Too tired after journey to take short walk into Coniston Village but thought we'd sample the hotel evening meal; freshly prepared & tasty food but thought it was rather pricey - probably explained why we were the only diners that evening! Appreciate we were off-season but for that reason preferred the cosiness & warmth of open fire in smaller pubs in Coniston Village, which also had better value for money meals. Bedroom clean & recently decorated; nice quiet lounge for reading, but reception area & stairs needs sprucing up.

Knowledgable and friendly staff, who were very helpful in arranging taxis. Mulled wine and crumpets on arrival were a very nice touch. Breakfast brunch served until 1300 was another excellent touch. Decor slightly dated in general. Bathroom and shower a little small for the price paid for the room. Very minor really.

The position, which we knew. The excellently friendly staff. That special feeling that made us feel happy. Although not everything was perfect we felt all in all it would have been unreasonable to make any complaint. The only little niggle was that the cold buffet cost was on the high side in comparison with what was on offer in other Hotels that either offered hot buffets or thre and four course meals.

Fantastic location, reasonable value for money. We should have payed attention to other reviews that suggest this hotel is cold! It is, it's very very cold! Not only cold but the room we were in was quite drafty. Breakfast was also a positively arctic experience.

Set in a stunning location in easy walking distance from the village of Coniston, The hotel meets every expectation with its confortable lounge with views of the lake and a great view of the fells from the dining room. The breakfasts were excellent with a great selection of hot foods. The bedrooms were small but snog with a very comfortable bed. Can't wait to re-book next year! Our group dined in the restaurant, The food was very good but the menu was very limited. Also with the restaurant empty it did lack atmosphere.

The hotel staff from reception through to management were extremely friendly and accomodating. The food at the hotel is of 5 star standard. Wifi available in public areas was an extra bonus. The wine was a little expensive more than three times the cost for the range available.

Lovely stay, friendly staff and good breakfast. Would recommend to family and friends. Only negative comment is that the rooms were cold and even with the radiators on, were still slightly chilly. We visited in winter so a warm room would have made the stay more comfortable.
