The beautiful Marquis Hotel was built in the 18th century as a holiday home for the 3rd Marquis of Bute.
Score from 546 reviews Very good
great view from our room (26) , out to sea looking towards the harbour, also perfect for the firework display . parking was fine ,free and on site. staff were very helpful and friendly. great value breakfast.
decore a bit tired
a dated hotel in need of re furbishment
the size of the bathroom, tiny couldn't swing a cat in it. Floor uneven also. Needs a bit of a tidy up of the restaurant.
The view from the Bedroom Wndow.
No Lift. Ceilings in the Dining/Lounge Room had water damage. Carpets on the stairs looked Grubby. Staff not too friendly.
The view from this hotel was beautiful, we had a sea view and as our room was on the first floor we were able to enjoy it to the full. Our room was a bit small but overall it was lovely.
I cant really fault anything to be fair.
location excellent, room comfortable
Rooms were a nice size. Breakfast always of a high standard and very efficiently run.
Valance sheets were not clean. Very small bathroom.
Location was excellent! Short distance to walk to beach etc
The room we stayed in had a rubbish view and at 6 am there was so much noise from a kitchen fan situated just under our window!
Clean rooms but could do with a little modernisation. Good sea view.
Paper thin walls meant you could hear the guests in the next room. Creaking floor boards were very obvious throughout the building. Car parking is very tight. Small rooms.
Clean Bedroom Excellent breakfast Friendly staff Great Location Excellent value formoney
Broadband very bad,
The fact that the train line ran outside my window and no one told me about it
Too far from shops, restaurants Fresh dog poo on lawn where we went to sit in the garden Smoking area directly beneath our window and needed window open as it was hot so cigarette smoke came into room Unpleasant stains on chairs and carpet in room
we liked the sea view .clean and friendly staff.
the room was too tiny and no space to move about!several times hit our head on the t.v on the wall where the tea making facility was placed under.also very hard to drive in and out being on the main road and on a bend .
Location was just away from the hussle but easily reached. Only down side was the parking
No hot water shower Walls very thin between rooms No soap Just quite run down and outdated
Everything overall - views beautiful
The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. They made you feel welcome and the room was lovely and clean with excellent views. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone
Parking could be a little tricky at times
The hotel is situated on a pretty stretch of coast, a 15 to 20 minute walk along the seafront brings you into the centre of Torquay. The prices are exceptionally fair, this isn't the Hilton and you're not paying a huge amount so as long as your expectations are realistic I'm sure you'll find this a bargain and a pleasant hotel.
The bathroom was a little cramped and the mattress was showing its age but these are small and petty issues for the price of staying here.
Location Friendly Staff Cofortable room Lovely View GREAT LOCATION. Parking Great bathroom Real value for money. Great breakfast
There is nothing we didnt like
Wonderful views over the bay. dual aspect windows.nice breakfast served with a smile
Fair priced out of season hotel. However it is very 'tired' and could do with a facelift to bring it out of the 70's Staff were very helpful but extremely lited in their execution. Reasonably clean and certainly well priced for a night stopover. Yes I would stay there again.
Receptionist didn't know the wifi code and failed to offer a correct receipt. Breakfast was typical English greasy stodge thank god for the bran flakes. No decaf coffee or tea in room. Cups in room were dirty
Scenery was beautiful. Decent price. And breakfast was good.
Only serve breakfast so they are more of a b&b than a hotel. If you want dinner or lunch and didnt drive, its about a mile walk to the town centre. Walls are hallow so throughout the night especially if you are downstairs you can hear every movement from the rooms above and to the sides.
- clean room - lift - seafront - cheap
- overall quite a dusty place - negligence on small things that would make a difference - tiles not very clean in the bathroom, shower screen full of water marks - unsteady bed headboard - very stuffy, no air con
Easy to find and park .Staff very warm and welcoming. The room was good overlooking the sea and breakfast excellent .I would book there again. All in all it was 10 out of 10.
I can't fault anything else
although they knew I was disabled I had to go up in the left but then down about 6/7 stairs to get to my room
