I asked for a quiet room with a view near the pool and that is just what I got. The room was lovely, with plenty of room. The reception staff where very welcoming and asked if I needed help with my lugage, The view was straight over the lake to the hills. I had afternoon tea in Charlies bar overlooking the lake when I arrived and this was lovely start to my break, (finger sandwiches and scones with freash cream). I went for a swim in the pool which was deck level with one wall all glass. It was like swimming in the lake as you could see the birds swimming past but the water was warm. I got to my room and it started to get cooler when I phoned reception and within a minute they brought a heater and checked everything They could not have been more helpful. The meals were lovely and staff attentive but not overly so.I had a lovely break. Car parking was secure as you neecded a code to leave. I felt the breakfast experience on my last day was not as good as the previous day. most of the tables had dirty dishes on and there was no staff. When I started to look for somewhere to sit a girl appeared. I asked if I could have a table next to a window and she said I could if I could find one. There was a family who came down and could not find a table set and had to drag 3 small tables together so they could eat together. The meal was good but the experience dampend the brilliant service we had had upto then.

Room was very comfortable, clean and spacious. Waitress at breakfast was very polite and welcoming. Surroundings excellent and would stay there again. Main reception area could do with friendlier staff. We felt that the welcome was very 'robotic' - we didn't feel it was sincere. Also 'banter' between other hotel workers with the receptionist was not appropriate in front of guests.

I stayed in the old Walton Hall part of the hotel complex, and while in places it may be a little dated and quirky, it is generally a delight and I would definitely stay here again. The rooms are individual and often spacious, and will depend on how they were customised, given that this was not designed as an hotel originally (I.E. you will love some and be less enthusiastic about others). Generally I can not praise this hotel highly enough. As a regular hotel user in Wakefield it is outstanding. The cuisine is excellent and the staff most attentive, and the landscaping including lake is delightful. I booked 2 rooms for 3 nights, and stayed in a double.

The staff at the hotel go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The bar/restaurant staff are exceptional. Looks a little tired in places but they are doing renovations and updating the hotel at present.

Very dissapointed with hotel. Bar overlooks swimming pool and as such smells of chlorine and has people in bathing costumes wandering through. No real ales and not a very comfortable place to sit and unwind. Heating very poor. Restaurant has a very limited menu of expensive food, again served in very cold surroundings. We asked if we could order the bar food to eat in restaurant and were told the chef would not allow this even though we were the only guests eating. When we asked if we could speak with the chef we were told no because he didnt speak English! We were not the only guests complaining about temperature and had to sit and eat in our coats. Red wine was served cold and "bake in the oven" bread rolls we only partly heated so still doughy and uncooked. Meals were ok but not worth the price we paid. Room was ok but very tired, shower did not work and everything creaked.

Its a great hotel staff are always very helpful and the rooms are always super clean. And unlike some hotels the wifi really works which for me is important to catch up with work once I have checked in. Very safe parking and the walk to the hotel is so nice. I always stay here when in the area Price if you can't get a deal on booking.com it's rather high
