Devonshire House is just outside Bath and a 20-minute walk to the city centre. It is a family-run B&B offering rooms with power showers and free Wi-Fi and delicious breakfasts.
Score from 126 reviews Fabulous
Set on the banks of the River Avon, Old Mill Hotel & Lodge has lovely gardens and stunning views over the countryside surrounding Bath. It is located on a site that housed a flour mill until 1907.
Score from 1241 reviews Good
Great room, hot tub, lovely breakfast and 5 mins walk from town. Staff are great too
Bit pricey but overall worth it
breakfast was excellent
bar was very poor and not cheap
The room was old and tatty, shower room was too small
Cooked Breakfast was ok...thats all really.
Our room was not what I would expect for the price. Cold breakfast buffet was very half hearted could have been presented better. Never been offered half a muffin in a hotel before! Room 7 ..Our friends stayed there , our treat , had a dirty carpet spoiled the gesture!
The bed was super comfy , the breakfast was great. The only thing that was a bit poor was the terrible pressure in the shower. Decor was a bit dated.. The staff were very friendly and the whole place was clean.
Terrible shower absolutely no pressure.
The position and car park easy access to public transport. Great pud within walking distance for evening meal.
Although we had requested a ground floor flat unfortunately we were right under the kitchen and very noisy. In a number of hotels the bathroom fan stays on for way too long when light is turned off.
Location was good.breakfast was nice.
It's a bit dated, could do with the bathroom being modernised.
Good, quick reception and check-out. The manager is friendly and helpful, and they do a great cooked breakfast. Plenty of space in bedroom and reasonably quiet location. This would make a good business/contractor guest house.
The whole place is desperately in need of refurbishment and considerable investment. There is too much that requires attention to list individually - must be so frustrating for the very attentive and conscientious manager!
Comfortable Isolated from other guests Great facilities
Pool wasn't in use Had to walk outside to get to the room (wasn't a hassle)
Staff were very helpful, hotel was comfortable
Restaurant was only open for breakfast which was a shame. Outdoor pool closed again it was a shame as weather was quite warm
Beautifully decorated room, everything in there that I needed. Plentiful parking, room provisions restocked daily. Kept very clean. Superbly comfortable bed too. Brilliant all round.
Wentworth House is good value for money, especially the 3 people rooms. The rooms are comfortable, whilst not being luxury accommodation, and we always enjoy the hot tub and hot freshly cooked breakfasts. The manager is always ready to help, booking us taxis and helping us when the room door got stuck!
The friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast & breakfast room. The car parking.
The décor is dated. The water pressure was too low to allow the shower to work & the bath needed a long time to fill. The bathroom extractor did not work. For a superior room the 'view' of the outhouses was bad and the condition of the room was tired and needed some TLC.
bed was comfortable
Unclean Toilet cobwebs broken chair Odd smell Fridge dirty
the view from the bathroom
no shower wonkey toilet seat noview from bed room window allyou could see is a tieled roof no pool that year poor value for money
Nice staff and good location.
The cooked breakfast could have been larger, however the cold selection was excellent.
It was an easy downhill walk to the city and a convenient bus back up. The breakfasts were well cooked and presented, very promptly served and the staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well.
Our room was a little shabby and lacked a good light to read by in the sitting area. Some things need replacing like the little kettle which has a broken lid. There was really nowhere to hang damp towels apart from over the shower rail, not sure what solution is though since the en suite was very small - another towel rail maybe?
I expected great things at a reasonable price. When we arrived the man who answer the bell was not welcoming but more interested in taking payment. The room at the top of the house was ok size but the decor in the room was mismatched as was the decor in the whole place. The ensuite was a tight squeeze the shower tiles had been damaged and obviously self repair with silicone (very badly), the toilet was a tight squeeze next to the shower and the tiles next to the toilet were stepped down to cover pipe work but were very sharp edges, there was no dressing table or desk in the room just a chest of draws with mirror on it which the plug next to this was too close to the floor a hair dryer or straighteners could not be plugged in. The room had a odd fur headboard which looked terrible and didn't fit in with decor. The room was quite warm the window was fully functionally & opened 2 different way there was also a fan above the bed, went to put this on but looked up and realised it had a thick maybe inch layer of dust on it. The room door lock took several attempts to lock when we went out. The hotel advertised a hot tub on the website which at no point mentioned a charge to use until we arrived & was told a fee was payable per person per hour, the reception had a sign saying pool temporally out of use again not mentioned on website & from the look of it had been out of use for some months if not years (thick algae). The bar did not seem to be open at all, the dining room for breakfast could of been lovely but the tables and chairs in the room were red and black and did not match the decor what so ever. The breakfast was ok, sausages were of good quality, toast was make & serve yourself the bread had been frozen and took out the freezer that morning so was poor quality, the other guests were a couple on a short break to the area the others were obviously workers doing work in the area as they had dirty work boots & clothing on....
no eveining meal poor car parking, too many stairs
My expectation of this hotel from the photos on the website was quite high. I specifically booked this over another because of the swimming pool and hot tub. Now, I firmly believe that the photographs were taken by what must have been the previous owners and bear only a passing resemblance to what is there now - a heady mix of 1970's disco mix of florescent pink/black velvet/Indian/English country house. Not a good look. The manager told us that the pool was not open because it was raining but on checking the reviews it seems that it hasn't worked for most of the year. The weeds around the pool and black mould on the cover give credence to this. We tried to leave as soon as we saw our room but the manager held us to the cancellation policy of giving two days notice. Hard to do is you only booked that morning as we did. The place is ridiculously overpriced for what it offers. The advertised 15 minute walk is downhill. Add another three quarters of an hour to get back up. A real let down.
the room was quite small and the hot water was not always immediate
Staff were very friendly and helpful
bathroom was dated and shower was slow
Staff were nice and friendly. Nice walk into Bath
Dust on the bedframe. strange Indian ornaments. Hideous chairs in reception area.
Breakfast was good. Staff friendly.
Shower pressure was very poor. Room was very "tired"and decor very dated.
Location - quiet but within walking distance of Bath. Room was clean and serviced. Good service at breakfast time, we had an appointment so the proprietor made sure that we had breakfast quickly and ordered us a taxi.
Still seems a little expensive but this is Bath. Shower was a bit weak.
