In a quiet part of East Cliff, this clean, friendly hotel is just a short walk from Bournemouth's beaches and town center. It has spacious rooms, a restaurant, a vibrant bar and free parking.

Centrally located on Bournemouth's West Cliff, the 4-star Connaught Lodge is just 320 yards from the top of the cliffs and a 5-minute walk from the BIC, Pavilion, and the thriving center of the town.

Opened on Queen Victoria's coronation day in June 1838, the Royal Bath Hotel was the first hotel in Bournemouth. It features 3 hotel restaurants, a health spa and lovely sea views.

Location and breakfast
Noisy guests all night pair of old socks stuffed down side if bed looked like they'd bend there for a year! Not a premier room!
Staff were helpful and polite.
Bed was very uncomfortable, mattress sagged in middle. Furniture in bedroom was chipped and shabby
chintz decoration bathroom with part used tioletries shabby room with leaking gutter threadbear carpets rooms were not the same as photos 2 single beds pushed together to make 1 headboards loose and not attached to beds old brown wardrobe leaning at 45 degrees
Like the swimming pool and location
It could do with update to rooms
Excellent location easy walk to beach and theatres. Good parking facilities. Free wifi. Plenty of choice at breakfast which was included in the price.
Room although quite large was rather dated as was the bathroom and shower.
Old building in need of TLC.
The location was fantastic, just a few mins from the beach
A Little too far from Bournemouth FC
Hotel needs refurbishment badly
We had booked 2 double rooms, and requested them to be adjacent, which they were. A little dated, but spotless and clean. Excellent location - 5 mins to town and beach.
Room was very very dated, sink had big crack in it, door to room looked like it had been smashed in
Good location, easy parking, a range of good facilities.
Jaded restaurant, needs redecoration, wallpaper peeling off, poor breakfast.
Free parking, good bar menu, reasonable breakfast.
Main road noise exists even though windows double glazed. This combined with revellers at 2am, seagulls at 4am and loud guests at 5 am meant very little sleep. The room was like set of Fawley Towers the lift only takes 2 people. Hotel needs demolishing and starting again.
Close to sea and Sandbanks , has it's own indoor and outdoor pool and close to some great restaurants . Staff also very helpful.
Friendly staff Great Location tasty food
Needs restoration reduce the price of drinks more communication when fire alarms go off
Location and car park excellent, bar food adequate in evenings if you did not want to eat in restaurant. For those not able to manage the hill half hourly bus to square or Swanage, or Bournemouth rail station. Having been to Bournemouth many times and stayed at various hotels, and the Wessex quite often, ok for what we paid for 4 nites on value deal B & B. Once breakfast was negotiated and over everything else in public areas was fine. Though, never used pools or gym on this occasion so cannot comment. Bed was comfortable
Room 269, clean but grotty, bathroom clean but again grotty. Understand that new owners recognise they have a refurb task on their hands. Breakfast interesting but a farce, teapots had to be asked for as were milk jugs, always running out for self service tea making, Waitresses actually cleared our pot of tea and milk and cups from table whilst we were collecting our breakfast! Absolutely hilarious! Scrambled eggs were off at 9am though breakfast is served until 9.30pm, buffet style. My wife asked for a boiled egg it was presented in a sugar bowl not an egg cup, again hilarious.Waitress did not understand what egg cup was, but found one eventually. Did not like peole smoking outside building on steps, gave it a Travel Lodge look, ashtray had not been cleared for days. TV did not work but I got it working with some tightening of broken aerial socket in wall. All in all some great Faulty Towers moments at breakfast, would not have missed it for the world!.
The hotel was comfortable and the staff were very pleasant.
The hotel needs redecorating. Breakfast could have been more sophisticated with cold meats, cheese, rolls and croissants. Porridge could have been on tap.
Good location, clean hotel, lots of free parking, good breakfast.
Bit expensive and some evasive staff on reception.
The beds were very comfortable and the room was fine.
The Leisure club is badly in need of updating. The reason we booked the Wessex was for its indoor and outdoor pool, but the outdoor pool wasn't in use and the whole area looked unused and in a poor state of repair. The Spa pool didn't work, the indoor pool was dirty with no staff on duty anywhere. Children are not allowed in the pool until 9.30am during the week, so not good during the school holidays, so we didn't get to have a morning swim before checking out. The lifts were slow or didn't work. Staff were very unfriendly both at reception, when called to the leisure club, and at breakfast. The fire alarm due to a fire door being opened at 11.30pm woke most of the hotel up and didn't make for a great night.
- Breakfast was very good. - Shower was nice and good bathroom facilities. - Friendly staff
- Room was a little run down, cracks in walls and celing. - Bar area wasn't best it could be, bigger TV needed plus another one.
Good facilities and close location to the beach
Quite dated and not particularly clean in places such as side of beds or under bed, looked like it was hoovered around rather than under. Found hairs in the shower however staff dealt with them once called.
Pet friendly did not pay anything for the dog! Very close to the beach
No variety of food at breakfast
Quite a quiet hotel, Breakfast was very nice
Needs a bit if TLC in rooms, in need of modernisation, a bit of wear on furniture which is somewhat old fashioned, carpets are worn, maybe invest in aircon or add few more openable windows
Near to the beach and good car park
Small room 4ft 6 inch beds very small i and my partner are less then average size so we struggled to get comfortable .The hotel needs to be updated looking quite tired
location good, breakfast good, staff good, leisure facilities very good with pleasant and helpful staff
nothing major to speak of,rooms a bit dated, but adequate
Outdoor pool was welcome on a very hot weekend.
One of our party left and wouldn't stay as her room was very hot (as was everyones!) and she couldn't open the window. Our room light wasn't working. Furniture and decor was very dated. The staff were very sullen and quite unfriendly. Fans were limited (in fact there was only 1 available) and the rooms were unbearably hot!
