Superb breakfast included in room price. Helpful staff. Room a bit "tired". Window-sill damp from leaky window frame. Dressing table surface cracked and varnish peeling.

Excellent location; comfortable beds with good linen; plentiful hot water, nice soap, good biscuits with tea/coffee supplies. Efficient & courteous receptionists. Pretty good food, if a trifle over-priced. Breakfast is still a chaotic scramble for those who do not want to make an early start (cannot comment on those who do). Too few staff; hot food (pretty good when it does come) & even milk, marmalade & china run out. Rotten coffee. Breakfast definitely needs a management shake-up & an efficient supervisor, although most of the staff do their agitated best. If production of dinner can run smoothly why not breakfast?

On side of M.6 Very convenient to break a journey north. Very comfortable modern, quiet and bright rooms most with view of moors. Bar food and restaurant food excellent value. Also has excellent deli/shop on same complex. Had a roaring log fire in the bar which was very welcome after driving through blizzards.

Ideal position for a break en route from Wales to Scotland. Excellent facilities and staff with superb restaurant. Prices on line compare well against alternative accommodation in the area.

Great improvement upon last experience in terms of cleanliness and decor. HOW CLEAN,COMFORTABLE AND WELCOMING THE ROOM WAS, HIGH STANDARD OF HOSPITALITY TRAY AND SUNDRIES. Nice to know the hotel is still family owned and supporting of local crafts and produce and of encouraging the local environmental projects. The ambience in the bar area was extremely relaxing after a long drive, good service throughout.

The hotel is friendly and very quiet, you can take dogs. The food seemed rather expensive but it was good an all inclusive price might be a good idea so you wouldn't be so shocked at the prices. The food was small portions.

We stayed in room 28 with a king sized bed plus 2 bunk beds hidden away behind cupboard doors - room very comfortable with a pleasant bathroom and good shower - reception was very effecient and helpful - so the physical accomodation and most of the service was good - but unfortunately the story doesn't end here ....... The hotel was let down by its food - not cheap and verging on over- priced for what it is - disappointing given the emphasis on the quality of locally produced food - I had pie and chips and had to search for the meat - the pie crust was over-cooked and there were no vegetables - all for nearly £13 - it got worse at breakfast - we go there early - ordered a cooked breakfast with poached eggs which weren't cooked and as result other food was swimming in water - sent them back - I got new eggs but my wife was served with her original eggs with cold food - not the best way to start your day - as we were now pressed for time we decided to move onto the toast - that had been replenished but had only just seen the grill - we made reception aware of these problems on departure and rewarded with a lack of interest - we won't return

Always comfortable, with pleasant service and good food. As we are usually en-route to our holiday home in Edinburgh, it is always a good opportunity to shop for the empty fridge awaiting us there. The bill !

The hotel was very comfortable, clean and relaxing. The atmosphere was very friendly and not over bearing. The breakfast in particular was delicious. Highly recommended ! The only issue that was a little disconcerting was the road signs at the entrance to the car park. At first sight it seemed like it was indicating 'no entry' so we drove on down the country lane that went past the hotel. ( it was dark when we arrived ). After turning the car around and taking a closer look, we realised it was no entry to all other traffic except hotel customers - a bit confusing !

“The hotel staff were its best asset. From the moment we arrived every single member of staff went the extra mile to help. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels but none of them would come close to the standard of service given by the staff. I broke a bone in my wrist whilst in Kendal and the staff did everything possible to make the rest of our stay as comfortable as possible. We will definitely be visiting again soon. ” Stewart, Norwich |
