Score from 24 reviews Fabulous
Great location, very reasonable price, great hosts.
The only thing I didn't like was the beer, not to my taste but apart from that all great.
Tired property with poor access
Gorgeous location, and our hobbit house was lovely.
The staff were rude and made us feel very unwelcome.
Some of the nicest staff I have come across and a beautiful location
The hobbit houses were great fun for the kids and a twist on basic camping. The hotel was accommodating and people were really friendly. Views were amazing. Good to even just visit for a meal.
Up on top of the moor and away from civilisation.
Bar closed early and the cockerel crowing in the morning.
The owners was lovely to speak to.really enjoyed our time there
Turned electric off at 12 am in the night it didn't come back on until 6 am in the morning on our first night.
The location is great, stunning views and beautiful surrounding area. The Hobbit huts are quirky, warm and comfortable. The food was outstanding and great value for money. Very friendly atmosphere.
The location. The views were incredible.
We weren't told before hand that you had to bring your own bedding so got charged an additional £10. Nor were we told that if your staying in one cabin with more than 2 people you have to pay for an extra camp bed. As we booked and paid for 3 people this should have been included in the cost. We were also under the impression our stay had been paid for at time of booking which wasnt the case. The owner was very abrupt and rude with no empathy when handling this situation. Overall we found customer service and organisation of the venue to be very poor. The accommodation looks lovely from the outside but you are equipped with the bare minimum on the inside as everything comes charged as extra. The beds are uncomfortable and there should be more than one electric socket as the room caters for 4 people.
Location is stunning, and staff very friendly and helpful. This was a treat for my partner as part of his birthday, and he loved it. Walked to Minions, easy walking, visited the Hurlers and Cheesewring. Food very reasonable and very good too! Loved being far away from the madding crowd! Definitely reccomend.
Nothing to dislike . Rooms are a little basic, but clean and comfortable, reception and bar area well worn, but homely and nice, after all, you are in the countryside. And what a countryside, superb.
the location and Hobbit hole were great. such a peaceful place. good value, but couldnt manage more than one night as a bit cramped with 4 in. host was very dry, some people may not get him but he was attentive. food looked amazing , although did here a few people moan about the wait.
isolated, so stuck using hotel bar if you want a drink, which is pricey (nr£10 for 2 pints and 2 lemonades poured out of a bottle of value pop)
I liked the look of the hobbit huts and the setting, the staff were average on friendliness.
I didn't like the futon and ended up sleeping on the put-up bed. We also had people up outside our hut chatting til midnight which kept us awake.
Location is as far as we are concerned is just about perfect, being 3 miles from my old school town Liskeard, and situated on Caradon Hill with excellent views over s.e. Cornwall
Cleaning and bedding could be improved on.
hot tub and scenery
water in bath too hot and no way to tone it down, no wi fi in all areas like advertised on site, missleading pictures and information on website,
We spent 2 nights with friends. The idea and the place are very nice. There is BBQ area which is very good as well with a big GAS bbq. For short stay is very good.Toilets were very clean and the water was very hot all the time.
I think they should improve the beds, as they are not very comfortable!
The views were fantastic. A great novelty for the children to stay in a hobbit house with plenty of room to run around. Food was good
No curtain at the window
The location, in the Woods with animals roaming freely was amazing. It was fantastic to have cows and sheep greet you at our Hobbit home door each morning. The toilet block was close, clean and very adequate for purpose. The owners and staff at The Hotel were friendly and welcoming and the food was lovely.
I would have liked a shelf in the Hobbit Home next to the coat hooks. Just a small thing to make it a little more convenient for placing small items. Also the single bed mattress could have been thicker as it was quite uncomfortable due to being on an uneven spring base.
Isolated location child friendly the chickens! Good beer Basic but good vfm The Hobbit Houses
it is work in progress - but don't let that put you off
Random trip before the holidays come to an end. Two young girlies were incredibly excited to stay in a hobbit house. Hobbit house was amazing. Very warm. Clean showers and toilets. Friendly staff. BBQ to use for breakfast. Sheep roaming around outside the door. Can't wait to go again.
Window could do with a blind to keep light out in the morning.
Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. The hobbit house was cosy and cute.
The shower block was somewhat basic and often short of toilet paper
Hobbit houses- warm, cosy, enough space for 4 Views- second to none
Barbeque- possibly not cleaned all summer? Decaying bits of meat Showers- freezing cold in the morning Free range pork and eggs advertised on website- when asked, I was told they had none left Food- what we had was nice, but very disorganised!!
querkyness of hobbit houses , showers were brilliant was great to try hot tub at no extra charge. Didn't try breakfast but evening meal was excellent. Was very easy to find well placed with farm shop near by and convenience store short distance away. A real rural feel with chickens/hens guinea fowl, sheep and cows all roaming freely and didn't seem to mind us. houses were more roomy than expected
would have preferred one use bbq or cleaner gas one. Gentleman was a little sharp on occasion. Could of had a few more hooks to hang things on and wifi could be better, somewhere to store milk would've been good.
I stayed at wheal tor for 5 days with my two boys, 6 and 9... From the second we got there the kids were mesmerised-the view is sensational and the play area for the children along with the animals (horses, cows, sheep, goats, chicken, weird turkey/duck things that I can't remember their name(?!) they asked if we could stay again next year!!! And we are, 10 of us in 4 hobbit houses?! Why? you are local to everything from the depths of Cornwall in lands end to things to do in Devon. And to top it off: 1. the food is OUTSTANDING!!! So yummy, fab value for money, great selection for kids. 2. The staff are the best I've ever for across. Friendly, helpful, there for you whenever you need it! 3. The toilet/shower facilities are exceptionally clean with great showers!! 4. The hobbit houses, even in crap weather are cosy and warm. 5. Ample parking 6. Need I go on?!!!
The only downside to our stay was wifi... But we were in the country. Right in the heart of Cornwall! I had great phone reception but sadly required wifi IN my hobbit house so my children could FaceTime my husband and to do work but was only able to do this in the restaurant/bar. But actually, this enabled me to spend more quality time with my kids!!!
Lovely people, nice location
Poor description of sleeping arrangements. King size bed was a wooden slatted contraption from ikea, about 3 inches off the floor. Extra beds were also incredibly uncomfortable. No wifi at all.Upon arrival, was told bedding was an extra £5 per night, per bed. Would have worked out cheaper to stay in a local b+b, where you'd have got a bed you could sleep in, and a breakfast too. Gas barbecue available, if you don't mind spending an hour or two cleaning it first. A lovely idea, but ended up more like sleeping on somebody's shed floor.
Remote location and can feel a bit bleak and isolated in bad weather, but that can taken as a plus – our Wi-Fi did not work in our room but no problems in the Bar Area All in all a nice stay
