Located overlooking the city’s Roman walls, The Hampton by Hilton York is across from York Train Station and a 10-minute walk from the historic center.
Score from 1925 reviews Excellent
In a secluded courtyard in the heart of York city center, this charming hotel is half a mile from York Train Station and York Minster. It has a fitness center with a gym, saunas and an indoor pool.
Score from 1331 reviews Very good
Less than a mile from the historic center of York, this hotel, which was built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase.
Score from 1383 reviews Good

The staff were very pleasant and the room was exactly what we needed. I especially enjoyed the cooked breakfast the next morning!
I had to leave York!
The manager was so friendly and helpful. We did have wifi connection in our room. Nice amenities, Great cooked-to-order breakfast. Located a few blocks outside city walls. A fairly brisk 20 minute walk to major sites, i.e., the cathedral, shambles, etc. Would gladly recommend Wheatlands to friends. Do not miss the free walks with knowledgeable, entertaining local guides. The Evensong service at the cathedral was priceless.
Excellent rate for a twin-bed room. Very helpful, kind and friendly staff. Reception/bar area is cosy, with a fireplace and nice drinks, not expensive. Good location, only 15 mins walk from the town centre.
Uncomfortable bed, old fashioned spring mattress, way too soft, so I asked for a foam one but the housekeeper said all beds are the same in the hotel. :-( Parking is very very narrow... Poor Internet connection.
Efficient. Good breakfast. Good location. Reasonable value.
Poor parking. we were on top floor which was lovely and quiet, hard work if not fit to walk up all the stairs!
Staff always friendly and it has a home away from home feel about it - Fabulous Christmas Tree in Lobby this year. As a single lady traveller, I just feel safe!!
we were only 5 mins walk into the centre, with lots to do and see. our room was plain but very comfortable. the staff were very helpful. good breakfast. we would recommend this hotel.
Friendly reception and help lending a phone charger
Having to wait 20 mins at 8:30 at reception for someone to allow me to pay my bill The hairdryer also blew up not actually burning my hair, but came close. I had wet hair at a work conference on a cold day.
Staffs were friendly, and provided me with maps and tourist information booklet etc etc. Nice and easy location just 10min from Railway station. Delicious breakfast. Beautiful hotel with great atmosphere. Room is spacious and clean. Would definitely recommend friends to here again! Except WiFi was kinda weak, only available at lobby area.
good food good staff only five minutes from city centre
The price! The breakfast was great. Very convenient to walk into the city.
Uncomfortable pillows - perhaps there should be a choice within the wardrobe of fibre filled of feather?
the hotel was brilliant, the staff could not do enough for us. we would recommend it to everyone. we,ll be back!!
nothing to dislike
Comfortable room, good food and excellent staff....they couldn't do enough for me, even down to helping me park in the rather tight car park!
Hotel was in a good location short walk to centre and train station. Parking available around the back of the building was able to leave my car there for a few days whilst I went to Edinburgh which was a massive help. Great staff very attentive.
Rooms were tired, paper coming off wall. Very dusty. Top floor up three flights of stairs with heavy bags.
Like the Hotel, the staff and York
The building looks beautiful from the outside, it is five-ten minutes walk to the centre.
The room was big with high ceiling but the facilities were worn-out and in some parts a bit rusty. Stains on the bedsheets (not dirt, just overuse) and a window looking one-meter further at a wall (although, they have rooms with better view). Very hot throughout the night even with the heating off, we had to open the window. Breakfast quality unacceptably low and small portions. Internet connection inadequate even around the reception which is the only place in the whole building supposed to be covered by signal.
Nothing but a 1st class service from the start to the end of our visit
Very good location, nice bar and friendly staff. There was a very good choice for breakfast.
Nothing negative to report.
Had a room which had a radiator not working properly and we were immediately gjven another very warm comfortable room. Staff excelkent
Evening meal. Thought it poor value and no choice of soup or main course. It was cooked nicely but as we do not like minestrone soup we had to leave out that course.
This hotel was great. the staff were so friendly , nothing was too much trouble. We would recommend this hotel to anyone. and would definately use it again .
Great welcome Excellent food
Not a lot!
The location is spot on 10 mins walk into york centre the staff are very helpful especially the reception, the double room we had was spacious, very clean and yes tea and coffee for the morning would certainly stay again.
Although we managed to park next to the reception if the hotel were to be full then parking could be a problem but only meaning you'd have to find a space on the road which may mean a couple of mins max walk to the hotel,
Location excellent 10 minute walk to castle wall. Hotel comfortable, clean, staff helpful. Breakfast excellent.
Location Quirkiness of bar and lounge area Cleanliness Friendly staff
Car park - too small and 2 out of 3 days no room for us to park Dining experience - breakfast excellent according to my husband who had the fry up - Dinner not good, ran out of food, very basic and rushed through. Eat dinner somewhere else!
This is a older hotel with lots of character. Set back from the road making it a quiet place to stay.
We were on the 3rd floor with a rear facing room, so no view. But not everyone can be at the front.
