Less than a mile from the historic center of York, this hotel, which was built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase.

Great location, friendly staff, comfortable hotel.
Friendly owner Reasonably priced Great location Issue with radiator resolved straight away
Shower very poor needs updating Parking very limited at back of hotel Very abrupt and unfriendly waitress at breakfast Bed too small School trip of kids staying made it very noisy in mornings.
The hotel is very cosy, homely and welcoming. It is 10-15min walk from the town centre and 10min from the railway station. Frequent buses run close by.
The breakfast was alright with a good variety. Staff were friendly and helpful. Alarm clock and plenty of plug sockets provided in the room.
Bedroom was cold as the heating was switched off, even after turning the radiator up to the max, it was still not switched on. Mattress and pillows were incredibly firm. Wi-Fi was only available in communal areas such as reception and bar areas.
The staff were lovely as was the atmosphere of the hotel. In short it made the short stay to York so much more special.
Staff were friendly and hotel is homely .
Lovely welcoming staff superb fresh breakfast 10/10 excellent location car park on site & they even let us leave our car on their car park til late Sunday even though we had checked out at 10.30
Just a minor setback the bathroom in our room was very damp and cold
staff were very friendly and helpful
We were there before 12.0, but were allowed to park in hotel car park, and were given a cuppa before venturing out. A good start and we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our stay.
Good location, about 15min walk to ctr. Basic but clean & bed was super comfortable!!! Good price and breakfast
didn't come up on comparison website. Had to search manually to find it
good position close to amenities
Dodgy heating mass market feel, dated decor
Nice bay window and good view. Good sized room
Variable heating, unable to control temperature of radiators at times dangerously hot. Beds quite hard
The staff were friendly and the place was clean the breakfast was nice we did enjoy our stay.
Room 30 our toilet seat was broken the bed was uncomfortable and was too short I'm 6ft 3 and could not stretch out. The bed did seem cheap and did not fit the ambience of the hotel. The shower was not very powerful.
The staff are friendly. The rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable
Good location for the facilities and town centre .staff pleasant and welcome breakfast is ok
Noises run down tired parking is a problem needs a paintbrush to bring some life back into the place
Shower could have been better, room could be up dated
Really good sized room and bathroom
no problems with our stay
Comfort of room e.g. bed, wardrobe, en- suite, tea facilities, hairdryer all good. Cleanness
Parking was appalling for such a large hotel. I counted 10 parking facilities. Ok in medieval times for horses and carts! Heating turned off at 10.00 and room got very cold after 10.30 pm onwards. Had to use double quilt for sleeping at night as room was so very cold. No fan in bathroom to extract steam so had to open window to let it out.
Lovely, friendly staff.
Walls were thin, and I could hear conversations from neighbouring rooms.
Closeness to York town centre
Had to wait ages for cooked breakfast other guests who came after us were served at least 10 minutes before us. Room cold, could not turn up the heating!
It was perfect for anyone wanting to visit York and all aspects met expectations.
The room was excellent for a two star hotel, very friendly and helpful owners nothing is too much trouble. If you need a comfortable place to sleep at night in a very good location at a cheap price this is it.
Breakfast was fair considering the price of the room. The evening meal was very basic I would eat out
Great location, very friendly staff and very clean hotel that has all the little home comforts.
Pillows were a little to hard but other than that nothing to complain about.
Staff friendly & accommodating.good proximity to the city centre & railway station.
Breakfast period too limited 0745-0900.
