Lovely large, spotlessly clean room, a comprehensive welcome tray. We had a super breakfast of local produce, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the Wheelgate was ideally situated with ample free parking.

From the moment you arrive you are met with a friendly staff who are there to make your stay enjoyable. The facilities are clinically clean and extremely comfortable. Although I did not have the evening meal the breakfast was excellent. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful something that you get from a privately family run business and seldom experienced in a large chain of hotels. Would strongly recommend anyone to experience a stay at the Wheelgate, you will not be disappointed.

The village of Bampton is a must for Downton Abbey fans like us. We liked the parking space in front of the B&B (safe, although public). Free Wifi. Good bed. Coffee and tea facilities in room (and some cookies). Lots of storage space in the room! Complimentary water daily (2 small bottles). The garden/patio where you can have dinner is absolutely lovely! Would only recommend this B&B to fans of the Downton Abbey series. Otherwise, there are probably better options in the neighbourhood. We enjoyed our stay but would probably not go back.

We felt that the service was a bit "confusing". We had to confirm our identity twice:were asked for our name, although given at check in, and asked whether we were in "Robin", while we were in "Nightingale". When having dinner in the garden (on both evenings) the waitress proposed to charge the bill to our room and we agreed but we were not given any receipt or request to sign anything. When checking out, we could not really verify our bill since there were no details about the dinners. I think they forgot to charge us for two coffees but I did not want to go into it since we were in a hurry to leave. The room is not so cosy. We felt it looked a bit "poor". Also, "Nightingale" has a very low ceiling with beams. My husband who is 1.86 m tall could ony just stand upright in the room. He bumped his head a few times. We felt we should have been asked when booking. What does a 1.90 m tall guy do?? It was extremely hot in the room (due to the hot summer weather) so we had to leave the windows open which, being right next to the road, was a bit noisy. It did not bother us but some people would certainly dislike it. The smell of the kitchen rises up to the room making it smell rather badly, so much so that we had to spray perfume. We had a misunderstanding about the breakfast hour. Breakfast made to order is very good (eggs of your choice on toast or full English and some other choices). The additional breakfast "buffet" was quite poor. It consisted of 1 spoon of yoghourt and a few blueberries per guest.

Cleanliness; good food; easy to do business with; good WiFi. Wonderful patio/garden. Quaint and picturesque town, especially for Downton Abbey fans! A little gem!

Room was a bit warm, and the night then was too cold without it, but too warm with it vs. having a sheet to use.
