Score from 47 reviews
“ A very comfortable, historic country inn set in beautiful scenery nestling under the ancient Celtic site of the White Horse Hill. ”
Margaret,
Stockport
The White Horse is one of Britain's oldest inns and has tasty food, good rooms and a traditional pub. It is ideal for walks on White Horse Hill and The Ridgeway. The pub is in the heart of the Vale of Whitehorse. It has a thatched roof, oak beams, log fires and warm welcome. Wi-Fi is available in public areas and some rooms. The White Horse is 11 miles from Swindon and 5 miles from Faringdon. The M4 highway is nearby and there is plenty of parking. It's a truely beautiful old Inn. The rooms are very well equipped and decorated. There was even a dressing table. The owner is very friendly and funny! They have a really good Rosé wine on the menue! It's a brilliant place to go - in good weather.

We really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and being made so welcome, especially with a dog. The food and service was excellent with a wide range of starters, mains and deserts. the garden setting was an absolute delight.l Nothing really.

Charming thatched pub with lots of character. Good food, not the usual pub grub. Lovely breakfast. Comfy bed with plenty of room. Many thanks to Keith and his staff, will definitely return. Nothing, it was perfect for out weekend away.

Nice room, very friendly staff, lovely location, excellent breakfast. Very noisy shower must have heard it in every room. Could do with updating in the Bathroom. Bar was quite noisy when having our dinner on Saturday night.

Everyone very friendly and helpful. Breakfast provided whenever we wanted rather than at a fixed hour which suited as we had just finished a 14 hour flight from the Far East. Nothing to not like

The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. The shower in the room next door made a bit too much noise.

The location was lovely for walking, sadly we missed the opportunity as we were staying overnight, and heading off early in the morning. The bar/restaurant food in the evening was simply delicious - the three meals we had were really excellent quality and I can recommend the desserts. We shared a family suite which was spacious and very comfortable, all the amenities. I would recommend it for a group of friends as an overnight or weekend break. Noisy at night as there was an evening 'do' but this was perhaps a one-off event?

Wonderful Tudor style16 th century b& b hotel with very comfortable rooms. The breakfast was lovely & diners really delicious !!! There are lovely walks & high on the hill is an enormous stylized horse on the landscape from Neolithic times. For some it may be a little far from other places of interest.

Very nice location, oldy worldy looking the rooms need a major update, very poor bathrooms and need bedrooms updating, aslo need to get the WiFi working in the rooms, although the rooms were resonably clean and functional.

Breakfast was good, room was adequate and comfortable, location was countryside personified. Outside the entrance to room was shabby and tatty, seemed like a dumping ground for bits of old gym equipment, empty water bottles and bags of winter road salt, also very tatty shed as view from window, room had several spiders sharing with us, cobwebs counted-8 in total. Room was serviced daily, bed made etc, but en-suite remained untouched throughout our stay, ran out of loo paper in middle of night and had to shower using damp towels as no facility to dry them, wouldn't fancy staying here in winter as room was damp in mornings despite it being summertime.

The evening meals were fantastic. Staff were very helpful. setting was lovely and close to the venue I wished to visit. The only thing I did not like was the fact that a boiler was shared between 2 rooms and if the people next door had a bath or shower the noise was horrendous. Bad enough during the day but real nuisance value early in the morning or late at night.

Lovely Room. Exceptionally good food for a pub. Choice of good beers. Pretty location. Loved it - telling all our friends about it and want to go back. Nothing - cant think of any negatives apart from some noisy rooks in a tree nearby that woke us up early. Closed window and got back to sleep immediately. Even added to lovely country atmosphere!

A very comfortable, historic country inn set in beautiful scenery nestling under the ancient Celtic site of the White Horse Hill. The food was excellent - not your usual pub fare but an interesting and exciting menu full of delicious choices; we hard pressed to decide what to try and the bonus of a great Sunday lunch. Good range of beers as well. Our rooms were very good too with lots of space and comfy beds. We cannot recommend it too much and will definately return to explore more of this part of the Cotswolds.
