Score from 90 reviews Good
TV Reception wasn't great
Location is excellent, just opposite the Cathedral.
There is no lounge and parking is limited and awkward. The parking may well be an issue at all Wells hotels.
Location Friendly staff
Poor Wi-Fi Water pressure in room
Location. Bedding was clean.
Air in the room seemed cold and damp, although bed wasn't. Bath had patches where enamel was worn away and grouting needed renewing or at least cleaning properly. Mattress was too soft. Altogether rather shabby.
Very friendly. Lovely breakfast Excellent location in the centre of Wells opposite the Cathedral.
The surrounding village and nearby cathedral. Parking was just okay.
Very basic room. Had trouble even remembering this hotel. Very narrow staircase, difficult to maneuver past people. Poor reception area.
Breakfast was good Staff very pleasant
Whole Hotel in need of updating Overpriced for the standard of accommodation
Old fashioned bedroom, not like the web photos at all. Poor lighting, including 2 bulbs not working. Not the cleanest.
Waitress said there was no taxi and we could easily walk to bus station! Two 70+ year olds dragging bags all the way to bus station? I think not and when we got there we saw taxis!
We were given the room shown in the booking.com picture, and all in all we were pleased with it. It was quiet, pleasant, comfortable, and had everything we needed. There were some nice touches, such as the complementary bottle of water. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful, also efficient. Our special requests were attended to. The food was good on the whole and the breakfast was enough for our needs. The booking and checking in and out was handled efficiently. The location for the cathedral and centre of Wells is excellent. It is also opposite a very good restauant which takes orders until 9.15 pm. There is car parking which is good but not as many spaces as there are rooms.
We had read some not so positive reviews on line and so were prepared for the worst, but were actually pleasantly surprised. What stopped our rating from being excellent was for example, the fact that the room carpet seemed a bit damaged. Perhaps it needs replacing at some point. Also the wood was a bit cracked in the bathroom on the shower frame. Our view from our window was actually of the car park but this didn't matter that much as it didn't seem noisy and we didn't spend that much time in the room. Our overall view of the hotel is positive although probably not in the same league as one or two of the upmarket hotels in Wells. The restaurant is good but not that much choice if you don't eat steak - fish and chips and the vegetarian burger is about all there is.
Nice oldie worldie feel
Rooms are quite small and feel a little dated in a poor way.
perfect location, close to cathedral, shops and restaurants.
The hotel is tired. Furniture in our bedroom was old and tatty and not particularly clean. Carpet next to the sink and shower is not a good idea, particularly as the shower door wasn't well fitted. There is not much to encourage visitors to spend time in the hotel.
Well positioned. Friendly staff. Breakfast was served quickly and was well cooked. Liked the fact that the toast was brought to the table as in so many places now you have to make your own.
Only thing would be that I would rather a shower cabinet rather than a bath with a shower attachment.
Nothing was outstanding
Indifferent staff, bathroom in poor condition, parking chaotic.
Lovely old world charm of a coaching inn, with cobbled courtyard.Great situation right next to old Cathedral grounds. Convenient on-site parking
Very Welcoming Traditional, clean, cosy and peaceful, well apart from the Bells, ringing, but what do you expect with a fantastic view of Wells cathedral.. Very conveniently situated. And the breakfast choice was fantastic
Tv Signal, and Wifi was very tempramental, however, being in the Business myself,i appreciatehow the weather affects these things, and it was one of those typical british summer evenings, you know, the ones where you arent sure if its august or october
breakfast was excellent
Noisy room, outside were traffic lights and the room was very hot so had to leave only window open. Traffic noise late at night and early morning awful. Water in taps boiling hot. Carpet was not clean. Certainly not four star except for breakfast.
Location and age of property Ambience Peaceful Incredible breakfast
Restaurant dinner was average, gourmet burgers they were not. Burger buns were on a par with macdonalds, which let the meal down. Tricky parking, small bathroom dated.
The rooms were well laid out and tastefully furnished. Breakfast was excellent and the quantity would suit the hungriest of people. When they realised my plight with the howls from the water tank they bent over backwards to give me another room. Excellent.
Parking is tight and for modern cars the area is too small. I ended up being scraped along my wing and bumper; an expensive repair! I hope they fix the outside water-tank soon as it's howls caused a sleepless night.
Staff were very helpful and friendly, dinner at the hotel was good and location was excellent, bed was comfortable and room was quiet.
The room was very musty, which affected my asthma somewhat - may not be the same for other rooms though. The parking area was also very tight.
Excellent central location Very quiet room in converted stable block Free Car parking in ancient courtyard although very tight access with difficult manoeuvring and limited spaces
Dark musty room with view of courtyard wall. General absence at reception could be a problem if security conscious, although friendly and helpful staff could be found if we went a searching!
Breakfast was a help yourself buffet, very good value
Car parking . No evening meal available on arrival.
No wifi connection in room, yet website states wifi throughout. arrived at hotel to be told management had not booked a chef and there would be no evening meals at the hotel limited parking in car park for the number of rooms provided and this is not mentioned in the website.
location. Friendliness of staff. good breakfast.
bathroom hygiene was a little sloppy stagnant water around bath taps. only one light bulb working.
Location so near Cathedral and City Centre Staff at breakfast were great, really attentive
Room (15) bit dark and noisy with people above (lights rattle)
