Nice oldie worldie feel
Rooms are quite small and feel a little dated in a poor way.
perfect location, close to cathedral, shops and restaurants.
The hotel is tired. Furniture in our bedroom was old and tatty and not particularly clean. Carpet next to the sink and shower is not a good idea, particularly as the shower door wasn't well fitted. There is not much to encourage visitors to spend time in the hotel.
Well positioned. Friendly staff. Breakfast was served quickly and was well cooked. Liked the fact that the toast was brought to the table as in so many places now you have to make your own.
Only thing would be that I would rather a shower cabinet rather than a bath with a shower attachment.
Nothing was outstanding
Indifferent staff, bathroom in poor condition, parking chaotic.
Lovely old world charm of a coaching inn, with cobbled courtyard.Great situation right next to old Cathedral grounds. Convenient on-site parking
breakfast was excellent
Noisy room, outside were traffic lights and the room was very hot so had to leave only window open. Traffic noise late at night and early morning awful. Water in taps boiling hot. Carpet was not clean. Certainly not four star except for breakfast.
Location and age of property Ambience Peaceful Incredible breakfast
Restaurant dinner was average, gourmet burgers they were not. Burger buns were on a par with macdonalds, which let the meal down. Tricky parking, small bathroom dated.
Staff were very helpful and friendly, dinner at the hotel was good and location was excellent, bed was comfortable and room was quiet.
The room was very musty, which affected my asthma somewhat - may not be the same for other rooms though. The parking area was also very tight.
Excellent central location Very quiet room in converted stable block Free Car parking in ancient courtyard although very tight access with difficult manoeuvring and limited spaces
Dark musty room with view of courtyard wall. General absence at reception could be a problem if security conscious, although friendly and helpful staff could be found if we went a searching!
Breakfast was a help yourself buffet, very good value
Car parking . No evening meal available on arrival.
No wifi connection in room, yet website states wifi throughout. arrived at hotel to be told management had not booked a chef and there would be no evening meals at the hotel limited parking in car park for the number of rooms provided and this is not mentioned in the website.
location. Friendliness of staff. good breakfast.
bathroom hygiene was a little sloppy stagnant water around bath taps. only one light bulb working.
Location so near Cathedral and City Centre Staff at breakfast were great, really attentive
Room (15) bit dark and noisy with people above (lights rattle)
soft mattress that you could fell the coils through. No sleep that night.
Tight car park Very small room for the £140 per night paid
The room was clean, they were expecting us and were very welcoming
The wifi was a bit hit and miss upstairs
Room was comfortable if a bit basic. Breakfast was good, coffee good and food hot. Bar not brilliant but staff very eager to please
Decent staff, clean and neat room, fabulous location. Highly recommended.
Rather tricky balancing the temperature for the shower.
I liked that the location was central and did not need to use car.
would have liked a slightly bigger room and an armchair.
The location, the large comfortable room and friendly staff
The bathrooms could do with refurbishing
Great location, ideal for exploring the area.
Restaurant closed earlier than advertised, and the second evening when we did eat there, the food was very average for the price.
Staff were very pleasant. Issues were taken seriously.
Car Parking - cars are parked dangerously close and once in the parking area it is very difficult to manoeuvre your way out. My advice is to walk around the parking bay and make your own judgement. However bear in mind, there are very few places to park for long stay parking in Wells. Reception was not manned and I walked back into the hotel in the evening and didn't see a soul which left me to believe that anyone can walk in at any time as both the front and back entrances are left open. Intermittent signals for TV throughout the evening to the point that you simply just couldn't watch anything. As I was on business I needed a clear signal for my mobile and internet - please don't expect it in Wells in general. No hot water in my room in the morning. I tried to call reception but no-one was manning the desk again. Although the rooms were clean and the décor was OK, the bed was very uncomfortable. As a lone traveller and being able to just walk into the hotel without being challenged, I did feel somewhat unsafe and didn't sleep at all well. Management are rarely around to sort out issues and the points I made above had to be reported to the chef when I went for breakfast! Please note* These events were put to the management eventually who confirmed that hot water was running and TV signals were strong. I was even taken back to my room to verify (which I did). Therefore I have no idea what went wrong.
Car parking is very tight.
smelly drains outside kitchen
Room 2 and Showers in both!
