The White Lion HotelMarket Cross Place, IP15 5BJ Aldeburgh (Show map) Excellent, Score from 298 reviews“Beds were extremely comfortable, tea and coffee (including decaf) making facilities were good. Bathroom was well appointed. Nice relaxing lounge on ground floor. An excellent restaurant with exceptionally well trained staff was a lovely bonus.”

The White Lion is a traditional hotel opposite Aldeburgh’s shingle beach, where wooden huts line the shore. Guests can enjoy fresh seafood, free Wi-Fi, and some of the rooms have far-reaching sea views. The privately owned hotel offers excellent service and menus made from fresh Suffolk produce. You can dine in the informal beach-facing bar, with its real ales, or the oak-paneled, AA Rosette-awarded restaurant. With its warm atmosphere, log fires and good food, The White Lion is a wonderful seaside hideaway. A variety of walking trails surround the area, and Snape Maltings Concert Hall is a 10-minute drive away. Tennis at the Country Club, and golf on the established James Braid course can be arranged at nearby Thorpeness. There is also space for free parking on site. Hotel Rooms: 38

The hotel is situated right on the sea front and was quiet of a night. The bed was comfortable and the room was accessable for disabled people with wet room and shower seat. Had a lift even though it was very slow and a bit on the small side. Although we couldnt get my scooter into lift we were given the opportunity to charge it downstairs in a function room. The manager let the whole team in the hotel down and one day our room wasnt clean properly and there were no clean towels.

We were impressed by the friendliness and efficiency of all the staff. The refurbishment was excellent - we had stayed at the White Lion some years previously .

Excellent service, good food at reasonable prices, excellent location Made a restaurant reservation a month before we arrived only to find that they had no record of it! They did manage to sort it out so no problem. Also booked a morning call but did not receive it the first day so a bit of a lack of communication between staff!

staff v pleasant. breakfast excellent. sandwich we had was lovely (but expensive!) overpriced. had seafront facing room which was so hot it was unbearable (the window only opened 4"). Im disabled so I had checked there was a lift - what it didnt mention was the lift only went to 2nd floor & I was on 3rd floor. v little parking at rear of hotel and difficult to find a space on arrival at the front.

Our sea view room was very modern and extremely comfortable. The views of the sea from the window were great especially first thing in the morning as the sun was rising. The food in the restaurant was delicious and where possible locally sourced - the fish comes from a fishermans hut across the road - you can't get more local than that!

Great, comfortable stay. Good breakfast. I was on the top floor and the wi-fi signal was not strong enough. I had to sit in the lobby to get any work done and this was not ideal. I spoke to a lady at the reception but she seemed unconcerned, indicated that that they didn't know there was a problem - which I find hard to believe. It's a shame because it is a simple problem that can easily be fixed by adding another transmitter.

Very pleasant and helpful staff. Nice room and firm bed. Good menu for evening meal and very good service. Dreadful breakfast, I had to instruct the staff the definition of toast, i.e. warm bread does not constitiute toast. I have never been particularly partial to raw sausage either. The bacon appears to be cooked at about 7.00 and kept warm for the next 3 hours so I used it to repair one of my shoes. 2 problems here: Someone in the kitchen and I hesitate to use the term "chef" thinks this is acceptable.2) a member of serving staff thinks this also. On returning to the hotel at 11.45 saturday night we were told they could arrange for one round of drinks "the night porter has called in sick and I want to go home" said a member of staff.Another member of staff: "Oh good you are back, I was worried we might not have been able to contact you as there is no night porter and you would get locked out" !! Is the war still on in Aldeburgh??

White Lion is nicely located, it has recently undergone a tasteful refurbishment, staff are thoughtful and helpful, rooms are clean and comfortable, relaxed and unrestrictive atmosphere, altogether friendly. We have stayed at the White Lion annually for the past four years. Everything is good except we have consistently experienced that there do not seem to be enough staff at breakfast, thus having to delay starting breakfast until it arrives in several stages, eg waiting for toast and tea.

The hotel has a fabulous atmosphere, with friendly staff and lovely rooms. It is right on the beach and adjacent to the main shopping street of Aldburgh, which has virtually no chain shops and much to commend it. Its a beautiful town, full of quaint historic interest, without being out of touch with the current market trends. Everyone we spoke to was friendly. The hotel staff went out of their way to make sure we had a lovely time, recommended places to see and could not have been more welcoming. The food at the hotel, including the gourmet breakfasts, is five star quality. I already have recommended the hotel to friends. We hope to go back soon. I am 61 and my daughter is 23. We both loved it. I had no complaints except having to come home.

From the moment you arrived you felt welcome. The room was very good and all that you needed was available. In particular the room was warm which was just as well and the wind off the North Sea was bitter! So often older hotels have a poor heating system which leaves the room lukewarm - the room at the White Lion was lovely and cosy as was the rest of the hotel. The food was excellent. We have no qualms about recommending it to other people.

Great location We asked for a sea view but the windows were so filled with condensation we couldn't enjoy the view. The walls are very thin! Our neighbours woke early and conversed and we were very aware of their conversation. Service at breakfast was patchy. We were there two mornings - on one my fruit salad never arrived, and on the second my croissant arrived only after prompting. Very friendly service though.

“the position of the hotel accommodates a stay at the seaside whatever the weather. When the weather is fine it allows folks to walk straight out onto the front parade to enjoy the resort but if not, the facilities give a perfect place to just sit and relax and take in the view in comfort.” Colleen, Nr.
