White Lion Royal HotelHigh Street, LL23 7AE Bala (Show map) Very good, Score from 127 reviews“Lovely hotel, easy to find and park, centrally situated with a few pubs and restaurants locally. Very clean and comfortable, would happily stay here again.”
Dawn,
Rct
The White Lion Royal Hotel, built 1752, reopened after extensive renovations to a 4 star Coaching Inn standard. Close to Snowdonia National Park (an area of outstanding natural beauty) and the Lake District of North Wales. Straddling the A494 Dolgellau road, The White Lion Royal Hotel is ideally situated for touring North and Mid Wales. One would have difficulty finding a better location than the Bala area, the Lake District of North Wales. The hotel has been completely refurbished, bringing it up to 4 star coaching inn standard. The White water rafting center is nearby, we are one of the closest hotels. We would advise booking a table at the same time as room as the restaurant is very popular. Hotel Rooms: 26, Hotel Chain: S.A.Brain & Co. Ltd.

There was absolutely nothing that I liked at this hotel except the look of the actual building from the outside. Inside, it was the worst 4* establishment that I have ever tried to sleep in, and I have travelled around the world twice during my lifetime. I have had better service and staff politeness at a 2* hotel. I was in room 301 and the toilet was actually situated in the bedroom almost at the foot of the bed - disgusting, and both windows were frosted glass because of this so there was no way of viewing the outside, allbeit the carpark at the back, without opening the window, in the rain on this particular evening. The mattress on the bed had more lumps in it than Snowdon mountain, and there was no mattress cover, this is not 4* status. As a Welsh person I felt shameful for visiting guests from other countries who might experience such horror. There was no toiletries except a small bottle of shampoo, no hair conditioner, and the small bar of soap supplied had to be sufficient for the shower also, and no shower cap. A female guest should not have been allocated a room like this. You get better value at youth hostels etc. for quarter of the price. From what I have seen on tv this room was not much better than a prison cell. Anyone thinking of booking a single room at this hotel needs to make enquiries first.

Staff were excellent during our checkout when we were delayed due to sickness. Staff were friendly, efficient and accommodating at all times. We would go back It would have suited me better if there had been a lift or a room on ground floor as I don't manage stairs very well.

Room very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast didn't start until 8am - too late for me due to business meeting. All I could have was cereal / toast. Not asked if I'd enjoyed my stay on check-out. Room and bed was very comfortable but I got as very poor night's sleep due to the sash windows rattling all night. It was only stopped by me getting up at 2am to jam towels in them to stop the noise. It runied an otherwise pleaseant stay.

We have stayed several times now as friends live nearby and we all meet up for Christmas/wedding anniversary/get together. Its easy to find, extremely comfortable, lots of space to socialise and overall a very lovely place to stay. My only criticisms would be that there could have done with more waiting on staff for breakfast as 1 poor waitress was simply not enough and to see her having to rush around was unpleasant and made you feel uncomfortable for her position. I know wages have to come from profits etc but with many people staying i feel another member of staff could have been warranted especially when she was expected to help people check out aswell. My other is lack of parking facilities but with the hotel location that can't be helped

It was a character hotel. The room with four poster bed was very nice, spacious and well appointed at the front of the hotel with excellent views of Bala high street. Staff seemed a little sparse at reception sometimes. When staff were in attendace they were very helpful. On check out we had to go looking for a member of staff. Booking a table for dinner on Sat evening was confused - staff were unsure as to whether they could fit us in or not.

Ideally located. Very pleasant decor throughout. Ample room, good parking. Staff very friendly made to feel welcome.. Food was very good,, a very enjoyale experience and would come again.the only problem was the saturday night revellors could hear all noise until 4am in morn.. But understandable being on the high street and being a listed building ,,, just remember to take earplugs?? An the other thing I was very surprised at was that there was no remote for the tv? Other than that would highly recomend...a big thumbs up No remote for television??? revellors specially on a saturday night.... due to being on the high st and given the age of the building listed i presume... felt like i was sleeping on the pavement outside..

Friendly amenable staff who on the whole make you feel very welcome. Excellent room size, comfortabale bed and excellent shower. The quality and range of food is the only let down. I would stay again but eat dinner elsewhere. The range of breakfast food is adequate and if you just want a cooked breakfast you'll be very satisfied.

This was my 3rd stay at the White Lion. Previously the restaurant menu had many typically Welsh dishes - for a pub it was a good menu and good value. Now, the menu is the same as any other bland chain - Little Chef, Harvester etc. What a shame. Perhaps this was the reason I was the only one eating in that evening.

The White Lion Hotel gave an excellent experience of local hospitality the staff were extremelly helpfull and polite. The food, a new menu we were told, was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for staff. Our stays away which can be fairly frequent are normally to the larger chains but our experience at White Lion has certainly changed our thought process on the future for where we may stay.

The location is ideal to visit the national white water centre which is why we booked it. The location meant that in the early hours of the morning the noise level from the street below was intolerable.

Lovely location, staff very helpful Our room was on the main high street - the traffic noise was just about bearable but we experienced people shouting down the street for most of the night into the early hours on both Fri & Sat nights - probably younger people going back from the pub - the language wasn't pleasant. This regrettably spoiled our stay through lack of sleep - but this was not the fault of the hotel
