Built around a former 17th-century residence and still retaining much original character, with beautiful oak beams, this mellow Yorkshire stone 4-star hotel is ideally located for visiting Barnsley,...
Score from 221 reviews Very good
Surrounded by miles of peaceful countryside, this 19th-century listed building offers old-fashioned charm alongside modern comforts, home-cooked local food and local beers and ales.
Score from 173 reviews Good
This charming, 19th-century converted farmhouse is just a mile from junction 31 of the M1. It features real log fires, traditional British meals, and bright, elegant rooms.
Score from 235 reviews Very good
The Leopold is a 4-star boutique hotel amid the shops, restaurants and bars of Sheffield city centre.
Score from 550 reviews Fabulous
Not a lot really, only the car parking...the staff seemed more interested in chatting and organising wedding parties..nothing really good about the place..
Staff rude, ignorant, not enough service, no bar staff long wait for service, the food and drinks well over priced and poor quality choice, poor menu ....
Grounds Rooms/Luxury Style Cleanliness Sky TV Port Comfort
Self service breakfast
Freezing cold bathroom. Poor food and then thumping disco until 12.30.
Very comfortable room with everything you need, free glass of port was a real treat.
Attractive old building nice comfortable lounge. Friendly staff. Good restaurant excellent meal.
Bedroom a bit tired . The worst bed I've slept in for years & I've stayed in dozens of hotels. Mattress needs changing. The background music in restaurant requires updating.
Whitley Hall beautiful country house with so much going for it. Nice little touches like port in a decanter. Food was good although overpriced
Our room was above the kitchen in the front of the hotel, so if it was not doors banging with staff going in and out all night it was people waiting for taxis right under our window smoking, or the bottles being emptied at 6am for 20 mins just as you had got off to sleep. Also the head waiter not knowing the difference between prosecco and pinot grigio, apparently they are the same. Luckily the wine waiter did know.
Location was lovely
There was a private party going on in the hotel, most of the people were drunk, loud noise continued until the early hours with nothing done. Would expect this of a well known chain of hotels but not a private location such as this
Great food, lovely rooms, fantastic staff
the rooms were large and well equiped. there was free water & a free drink of Port in the room. WiFi was available in the room and was very good quality. The bath room was large and the shower was excellent
The windows were old styleand could not be locked tight to keep the outside noise down.
I kept expecting Stokes to appear... You rang, milord? Just charming atmosphere. And the ladies at the reception... The loveliest ever.
Fire alarm at 1 AM (could've happened anywhere else though). Maybe a pair of bathroom slippers would've made me even happier.
Location, price, food, staff, quiet location and general ambiance
WiFi in the lounge and restaurant would be very useful
Friendly and efficient staff, cosy ambience.
Bedroom very small, bathroom tap broken. Restaurant not quite there - bread was cold and chewy, cheese course lacked variety.
The ambiance. The beautiful campus. The modern conveniences. Their preservation of the historical architecture and flavor. The friendliness & helpfulness of the Hotel staff.
It rained both days we were there, but this was not the fault of the Hotel.
The grounds are very nice will be better in summer, peacocks roaming around freely. Good parking facilities. Overall a nice place. Good size bathroom.
Our bedroom was rather small and restricting. Room 4. Bar prices are ridiculously expensive. Hotel over priced stayed in better for less. Probably won't come again.
Luxury hotel, great staff, amazing chef!
Having to leave!
Very accommodating staff Best ham sandwich
Very uncomfortable bed in room 12
The history and the helpful staff.
The hotel and facilities were lovely and the room was very comfortable.
The large group of smokers who congregated around the main entrance so you had to wade through a thick cloud of smoke every time you wanted to go into or out of the hotel. This has actually put me off staying there again.
Oodles of character, beautiful building,
Inadequate milk in the bedroom for making coffee and the fact that our television did not work.
friendly and helpful staff, lovely grounds and building; unfortunately no time to sample restaurant or do breakfast so can't comment.
expect the place to be very busy as a wedding venue. they don't issue two keys to a couple in one room - on the basis that electronic locking doors can stop access if one partner needs to go out means that you have to seek help at reception ??? ludicrous.
Great food and friendly staff.
Long wait for dinner, due to large party, young and poorly trained Resturant staff.
